Scoobs aren't about top speed or straight line drag. Yeah they be fast, but they're for the twisties and the fun stuff. A 350bhp Cupra will sure move in a straight line, but I doubt it would be much fun in said twisties or corners. This was why I said horses for courses, and you seem to dismiss this, as above, by emphasising just straight line.

Do you think your Cupra would pass an Evo/Scoob/R8/911 in the corners? I somehow think not. In a straight line I would assume the above drivers would know this and not let it bother them.

No disrespect intended by the way, genuine post

In the corners we have no chance tbh, unless they are flowing high speed ones. Twisties and roundabouts we do have trouble keeping up. Things do improve with a diff but then still if its wet there is no point even trying. Trouble is just by where I live there are no real driving roads as im SE londoner, so when I do get to play with others its usually straitish roads. Would have a evo over my cupra anyday but at my tender age I couldnt get insured on one, all silly quotes of 7 grand and more sadly, same with the scoob

Granted in the lastest performance car magazine the scoob sti got beat round the track by the rs, the megane r26.r and the revo 360hp tuned cupra, but its fair to say it was only the massive pace of the tuned cupra which allowed it to beat the scoob.

£2k worth of mods, remap, fuel pump, exhaust and IC will see a Cupra upto around 330/340bhp but even still the R8 would rip it to shreds 0-60 and 100-160 and beyond. 911 pretty much the same. You may i suppose keep pace mid range 50-100.

Have to say though, im a straight line fan too. I really cannot remember the last time i seen a bend in a road. 30000 miles per year and i would have to say 29,995 of them are on Motorway/A road/Town driving.

Even if i were to live in the country and have a car capable of going round a blind bend at 120mph with exceptional handling and grip, there's not a hope in hell i'd be driving like that on a narrow country road anyway. Far safer to use speed in a straight lines than to hurtle around blind bends at 100+

Never really seen the need for cars that go round bends at the speed of light unless you are a race track enthusiast if im being honest.

Give me raw power and grunt everyday
Look at our quarter mile times of a tuned cupra, gti ed30 etc to that of a audi r8. The audi beats us by .4 of a sec but we have a higher terminal speed, and if we didnt have the traction issues would beat the r8. Therefore its easy to see that rolling racing we are quicker, plus ours run on to just over 170mph too, and dont forget the infamour vid where a 340hp gti ed30 races a rs4 on public roads and leaves the rs4 behind.

And heres a quote from performance car mag, on a 360hp cupra, "from 120mph onwards it feels 911 quick"

Have not seen the mag, only released yesterday i believe, but from what i can make of the thread below..

Performance Car Mag - SEAT Cupra.net - SEAT Forum

The Cupra anhialates everything, straight line. Vmax 2m run..

megane - 1.20.7 - vmaxx - 138.6mph
focus rs - 1.21.6 - vmaxx - 146.3mph
360hp cupra - 1.21.9 - vmaxx - 158.4mph
sti - 1.22.4 - vmaxx - 145.3

Cupra 10secs quicker to 140 than the RS. Bit unfair though as Cupra has been mapped, all the others are standard.

As to R8, that will pull beyond 200mph, and 12.5@ 116 is not typical of a mapped car, i believe that ed230 was stripped and on a diet Im sure you'll know of Ben CTR, his Ed230 is at 13.1 and 109mph and he is a 1/4mile regular with map/exhaust etc

I have not seen a vid of RS4, you got a link?

Love the misconception on here that a car has to be 4WD or RWD to be quick or handle well lol. I've been smoked by scooby's down DC's and motorways countless times, but never in the dry where corners are concerned. Very good all rounder, but over rated and need to be modified to handle well, as they come standard they are just a safe car that any idiot can drive quickly A-B without too much drama. For me the Scooby is more about being a good all rounder, the noise, sense of occasion and practicality.

Amen to that.

I can say the same thing about my 205 well except the noise, it don't burble, but gives me everything the Scoob did.

Will still have a Scoob over it any day of the week!

Bens CTR and his ed30 gti "only has 340hp". It was ben ctr who smoked the rs4, and is subsequently on a driver ban because of it. The other gti ed30 which is on a diet is pushing around 350-360hp, estimated, as I still dont think its been dynoed. I have seen cars with that engine pushing 400hp at stage 2+ which utilises still the standard turbo. The GTI ED30 which is on a diet still has a bit of untapped potential.

v8 r8 has a top speed of 187mph apparently.

Yep 200 on clocks though. R8 uses same engine but is obviously geared better and is more streamlined. I would imagine lighter too.
I know Ben from seatcupra.net, im sure he wont mind me posting the sun article. Apologies Ben if you do and are reading (Some may know of him on here)

What happened at the end there, did you let off and he flew past or did the RS4 find some life? Sun article makes a reference that you were narrowly defeated? Didn't look like that to me.

Depends a lot on where you live - there are plenty of very well sighted country roads on my doorstep requiring handling precision and good grip to get the most satisfaction. My motor's grunt is almost irrelevant.

Agree with the above. When I learned Roadcraft and trained for IAM I was taught to judge my speed so that I am able to stop in the distance I can see to be safe. Ergo, blind bends would be quite slow, but fast, open, flowing bends I will go extremely quickly. I have entered bends at some eye-watering speeds and know very few people (maybe 5-6 in 7 years very active in the Subaru community) who could keep up with me when on a charge. The vast majority of my driving was on country A/B roads, mostly for pleasure and mostly at quite extreme speeds, and yet after 3 years in my Scoob covering 60k miles I didn't have a single incident (unless you count the damage a rabbit does when you hit it at 110 ). 30k a year stuck on motorways would see me reaching for the razor blades

Would appear that the Audi has far better brakes !

LOL

P.S. "And heres a quote from performance car mag, on a 360hp cupra, "from 120mph onwards it feels 911 quick" so does a Scoob with 400+ bhp not also feel 911 quick ?"
