Cool

Looking at it, I think quite a lot of them have defrauded us. Even the ones who have used the rules to their advantage without fraud would certainly be fired from any private company for such trangressions on expenses, and I dont see why MPs should be any different.

the one that galled me was the mp who claimed for 12 months council tax when he only had to pay 50percent that is without dought fraud . he claims it was a simple mistake i say rubbish . i work for a 200million pound a year turnover company and if i claimed for 4 pints of milk with reciept then only bought 2 pints i would be on the dole . another case of one rule for one . at the end of the day they are no worse than all the benifits scammers in this country . just passengers on the platform of life only difference is they go buisness class immigrants go 1st class and english people go second class

The rules were made by MP's who then voted them in. The rules were arranged to enable them to claim as much as possible while remaining inside their own rules.

To claim as much as so many of them did was morally wrong since as intelligent people they would have known exactly what they were doing!

As theoretically trustworthy people, as MP's have always been expected to be, those who behaved in the dishonest way that so many did, have betrayed that trust and brought politics into no less than public derision!

While I appreciate your position you need to come and see whats going on here in South Africa - the police special unit (scorpions) gets a bit close to blowing the whistle on serious corruption in the order of 100's of millions of dollars and what happens the president issues a motion to close them down, the day to day inefficiencies and backhanders are unbelievable
at least your mps are trying to make good and the amounts are believable and tangible - here they milk it for all that its worth and the amounts beggar belief - 200 million rand on an election campaign, 75 million rand on an inaugration party - thats 275million rand or about 18million pounds
then we have cities having to double invoice rates because the money has evaporated......

[quote=Scooby Blue WRX;8702318]If I had claimed for disallowable expenses, as a self employed person, on my tax return the Inland Revenue would go back 6 years to check everything was in order.[quote]

You would also be looking at a penalty/fine and also back dated interest on the amount owed to HMRC. Will these MP's have to repay interest don't think so.

As others have said what really does get me are the 2 who have claimed for mortgage interest when the mortgages have been settled, this is theft/fruad in any language and they should be charged with a criminal act.
