Well said Jo.
I have never understood the 'cliquey' thing, surely it is just normal to chat to your friends when out with them?
That does not mean you will not talk to newbies, and I do remember turning up at meets with Milamber and the 2 of us standing just talking to ourselves, but then you have to say hello and start talking, then slowly but surely you get to know people.
All just normal stuff when joining any group.

I came to first scooby meets - under the name of FFC around 2001/2002. My brother and i went on our first "scooby event", believe it was castle combe 2002, spent the day being ignored by everyone that we convoyed up with and ended up coming home early and driving the long distance back home on our own.

So yes clicky groups do happen, but since this day, i didnt sit there and cry about it...just got on with things and low and behold some people actually started to like me lol

We all share the shame enthuisasm of scoobs and look at events like castle combe / brands hatch everyone DOES talk and have a good day.

Pub meets have, are and will be slightly different, you will get individual groups of people meeting month in month out....that's life!

agree with you on that one matie....

dude ... I'm referring to the fact that there is a subgroup in the ESC now that perceives itself as elite and better than everybody else (not the ESC itself) more about **** licking and ego stroking than anything else. the FFIC was formed by people who were unhappy with the SIDC (obv times have changed and the SIDC is much MUCH better now) and when I joined the meets were awesome!!! nobody gave two ***** who had what, we just got in our cars and ragged around with no cares. Now there are stupid rules at meets, designated leaders ... it's ridiculous!!!!. I was 20 and turned up with a heap of **** classic with paint hanging off and a dodgy turbo but I was received with open arms and everybody made an effort to say hi. Lost are the days of tiny egging me on to do donuts in Lakeside and having the Camera car sitting on roundabouts egging someone to do something crazy ... it's like oh right lets turn up talk about boring cr@p and then leave at 10pm

In any case I think things have gone to far to be brought back and it's just a great shame.

In a few years time maybe someone will organise a lads curry meet and we can all sit and chat about the past, but I just think it's a shame that this place become full of commercial bullsh!t, arrogance, jealousy and forgot the reason that it was started up in the first place ...

Anyway i'm off to blow a clutch up. bibi

as for the drive it like you stole it style
i think maybe 8 years on people are older and wiser
the general public are less tolerant of spirited driving
the authorities only to pleased to pull us

thats why in my case its track days for driving
club meets for socialising

btw, i got pulled over last december for "spirited driving"
asked him if this was an endorsable offence, bad move

It was different all those years ago & now you have the general public more aware of being able to report a reg number for doing spirited driving or similar. The powers that the plod have for confiscating the car nowadays is a bit scary so like you I prefer to get on track one day. Some roads you do have a bit more freedom to do spirited driving & I think its about being a bit more sensisble these days.

I did like the old days as Rob puts it but for me a bit riskier these days to be doing donuts down the high street

i used to do doughnuts when i was 17 ffs.

now i just eat them.

who says we dont have a laugh in our cars (time and a place and not necessarily with ESC or sidc) as i said, we can take or leave things from the club and not feel oblidged to attend every meet or drive like a **** public places. each to their own i'm afraid dear boy !

lol I promise you I would never do one in a high street but I remember when I had the WR1, somone said to me, oh those things can't donut on the spot because of ... (he then gave some ridiculous technical explanation he must of found in a comic - incidently he was nothing to do with the ESC) so I was like oh right ... is that so!!! the rest as they say is dead clutch history

I remember a similar conversation with tiny along the lines of ... tiny shall I do a donut. Being older and far wiser I figured he would advise me that I was being irresponsible and was likely to get into lots of trouble ... lol the rest of that is dead tyres and a carpark ban history

my point is that following the curve is boring and these cars can do some amazing things which put smiles on peoples faces.

No way matey ... it's always open

as to the older and wiser bit, er yeh but the reason I have the car is to remind me that i'm a hooligan at heart and that when i get into it I can drop the Mr Professional persona and remind myself why I put up with the scum bag politicians nicking all my cash and spending it on swimming pools.

Track days are awesome don't get me wrong but nothing better than a bit of a late night lakeside cruise meet with people showing off (in a safe environment) what these cars can do other than driving fast in a straight line or around a circuit.

december!!!!! you're not driving that machine anywhere near hard enough young man

Gangster, i dont disagree, at all with what your saying.

But on big meets, we can't do things like that, especially not on our own doorstep.

its horses for courses and remember a lot of members have kids / passengers in the car so blatting down to a meet at high speed isn't always a wise thing to do.

get yourself on the bas vegas boys meal list and you can tell us all about the good old days... it will be a laugh

Get your name down for the Boys night out the Rob I'm sure you will be very welcome.

Tiny used to ask me to get the new wives/ partners involved with the rest of us. But sometimes it is hard work trying to do this if they just sit in their car and dint meet you half way. So now If the new girlie's really want to be with us at meets to have a chat or drink or anything else I and the rest of the usual girlie's do try and make them welcome.

Couldn't put it better myself - if you want to be part of a club, i.e. mix, talk to new people and get to know other members you do need to be willing to be a little brave & open the car door (so to speak).

I know it can be daunting at first to join a new group, but believe me you will not meet a more friendly, welcoming bunch of people than the ESC. It also helps to be a little mad..............

I am not the bravest of people when somewhere new, but have been to several meets now, and lost count of how many friendly faces I have seen & great people I have spoken to, and not one of them bites either!!

There are some great events & meets on the ESC calendar - something for everyone there - and not once have we felt we HAVE to go to something if it doesn't appeal, or been ignored if we have gone somewhere new.

All you have to do is turn up & mingle - it's easy, honest!!

I put the recent bitching down to the time of the month - and they say us wimmins are bad!! Just ignore them - I do!

On a slightly different note, did you leave Tiny in Germany? I for one am missing his input, and if he doesn't reappear soon I will start the campaign I threatened............
