Just let my 11yo son loose on the car with a spanner and he's come back to me with 7 objects, leaving the car another 2lbs lighter

Update: 16/5/11

Just been to Precious Metal to see if Zak can fit us a de-cat up-pipe but it's going to be at least a month before he can do it at a time suitable for us both. I tried AET on the way home and they quoted £470 to fit one!!!! Anyway I picked some AET stickers up whilst there to stick on my car doors.

You're proper a twisty git!

And you aren't trying hard enough to save weight! You've still got carpets and probably rear seats.

Just got back from Darlington where I visited DLM Autos to have an 'Harvey Smith DEI heat wrapped & de-catted up-pipe fitted.' £214 total and only £75 fixed price for fitting, beats the £370 odd AET wanted for fitting!!!

The old Cat up-pipe removed. It weighed a hefty 3.5kg (7½ lbs.)

You can just make out the wrap on the new up-pipe.

Not sure if this bolt's meant to be off but something was rattling in the engine bay before shooting out and hitting the underside of the car???

As for the performance, we let the engine warm up then gave it some on a long country straight, the car felt way way slower at first with a slightly different growl to the cars sound. But when I got used to the different delivery I realised it was brutally and deceptively quicker. The turbo is coming in far earlier, not just all at once at 3,500rpm as was the case. It comes in about 2,500 and gets progressively faster until full boost at 3,500. Just flooring it in one gear means there's no real urge/turbo kick any more that makes it feel quick but going through the gears it's a beast.
Also I always thought a de-cat got rid of pops and bangs but it's added more and louder ones. You can feel the cars chassis vibrate now.

BTW I thought the Chicken Parmo thing was a bit of a joke in the North East but it's genuinely a takeaway favourite.

Looks like the bolt on the support bracket has snapped? And they've used black silicone sealant between the up pipe and turbo and turbo and downpipe, pretty poor

Shame if so as they come highly recommended on here.

What do you mean mate? You can clearly see the black sealant and the snapped bolt.

Guess that's why it's only £75 for fitting! The gaskets would be a good £30+ for the three. But I know I'd rather pay the extra for new ones while it's being done.

Wouldn't like the thought there could be blobs of silicone (where squeezed out) on the inside waiting to fall off and make there way through the turbo.

I meant I hope it's not sealant, it seems to be some kind of black grease.

Anyway Harvey Smith has condemned me for posting the pic up on scoobynet asking for advice https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...d-fitting.html
