Matt have you tried Demon Tweeks, go to their web-site as it shows stock levels for each colour.

Some years ago I spent a day in there salivating like a dog with a steak !

Don't forget to pull the dash off and swap/remove the aircon "rad" under there....

No Air-Con doesn't say rally to me. It says sweaty....

LOL

dunx

P.S. To save 40 kg, I'll take the "sub" out of the boot !

Got my refund this morning so the revolution guys have come up trumps! I know a few companies who wouldn't have!

Scooby Clinic wanted to know if I wanted the dash off for further work but it was another 5 hours labour and the gf wanted to go to a bridal shop with my sister in the afternoon!!! I'd do it myself but I'd certainly end up damaging something.

I will check out demon tweaks but I need a certified fitter and I'm booked in for an appointment at MotorDrive monday aft! Gonna see if they can sort me but they have informed me they are 3 weeks behind.

Getting bucket seats bought and fitted must be the hardest car mod on the planet to carry out. Even the subframes will have to be fabricated.

OMP do vehicle specific sub frames and everything is FIA approved.

They list subframes for the newage but they also fit the classic. Get the subframe the sidemounts and do the job yourself its a doddle. Here they are in my old UK Turbo 2000 Classic

OMP SEAT SUBFRAMES SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STi TURBO 2001- on eBay, also, Subaru, Car Parts, Vehicle Parts Accessories (end time 13-Jul-09 11:30:46 BST)

You can then either get fixed side mounts (FIA approved) or a sliding mount (not FIA approved)

Wish I had the confidence or knowledgeable mates, I'll be definately opting for sliding mounts. I'm not sure about the classics but how do you get rid of that awful newage seat belt alarm if you're fitting harnesses?

There's nothing difficult about it. There's four bolts two at the back of the seat and two at the front. Undo them and the seat will come out. There's nothing more to it than that.

Mine has airbags in the seats and wires going all over the place, I've been told the carpet will need cutting too, possibly welding involved at some stage, seems a right job!

I've ordered motordrive seats but need somewhere to fit them now, trying BTRprep in Cas but they think it will take 2 days to fit both the buckets.

If you get the right mounts there's no welding involved neither will any carpets need cutting.

Two days also seems excessive unless you are welding tubes in and then welding seats to them which you will need to do if you dont have the correct mounts.

I've given you the link for the correct mounts I cant do anymore for you mate

Picked up my Motordrive seats today, just got to find somebody willing to fit them now. Motordrive supplied the mounts and subframes. They also informed me the reason Revolution gave me was bullsh*t.

GF says the subframe kit will need welding and cutting to fit! In the car back from Manchester today the temp guage read 29c and whilst the fans were blowing hot air at me I thought, which w*nker was it who thought it was a good idea to ditch the aircon?

The Racing Line managed to fit one seat Monday, they could have fit them both but the sub-frame caused problems. Racing Line phoned Motordrive as they thought the fitting of the subframe kit they supplied would be a bit brutal in the way it would be fitted. Motordrive asked if the car was down to the bare shell in which The Racing Line, as we did, informed Motordrive it was a street car not a rally project. Anyway The Racing Line ditched the subframe kit and bolted the side mount kit to the existing subframe.

Hope we can get a refund from Motordrive as the kit wasn't cheap. I will post fitted pics Friday after the 2nd seat is fitted. Also I think I've busted my elbow adjusting the seat already fitted too, Racing Line got the side mounts the wrong way around and one of the allen key bolts just didn't want to come out. Also one of the bolt holes on the seat had come loose so my gf had to pull the seat material back to tighten it up. I won't mention 6 or 7 bad scratches on the back of the fitted seat either. As I knackered my elbow it took my gf 3 hours to sort the seat out, the mount at the front of the seat had been wedged against a bolt that had been fitted too close to the side of the rail. My gf had to hammer the mount from the back to fit at the front. £300 quid fitting thus far just to be redone!

...the bucket seat nightmare continues.

Arrived home from the Racing Line at 3pm today went in for a drink then came back outside only to find my girlfriend in hysterics, smashing the seatbelt buckle against the car door.

I'd constantly asked the Racing Line not to over tighten the seat bolts so my gf could adjust her chair, she busted her hand due to them being so tight again, not helped by the fact the floor bolt was too near the rail side again and also the Racing Line had forgot to put the seatbelt clip on the seat, so I had to spend another 2 hours driving to Halifax and back.

The car has also been booked in for an oil and filter change/diff oil change on the last two occasions and they haven't been done probably because Evo's come first. I won't mention the resistor they said they'd fit to get rid of the airbag dash light and didn't.

They've lost me as a customer.

Anyway pics...

The car feels notably quicker now the seats are in and there's another saving of about 25kg, only downside is that you can feel every bump on the road as though there's a hole in the floor and you're sat on it. Much worse than any lowering job I've ever had done.

Next step is an oil and filter change, diff oil change and fault finding on an idle judder issue. I just don't know which garage to choose as nearly all performance tuners in the area have let me down in some way. Long term I'm thinking Carbon fibre bonnet, boot, wings, door cards and even a carbon propshaft. Then it could be lightweight alloys and lightened flywheel.

Learn how to do it yourself, Its the best way... Its not hard. Just requires some logical thinking and a set of tools.

You also save yourself a hell of a lot of pennies, Then again i've been fiddling since i was 16 and im 27 now lol.

Think this whole bucket seat saga has been hard for everyone. From makers to suppliers right through to fitters. Think in hindsight I should have just gone to BTRPREP for advice on which seats/subframes and paid the £600 fitting charge they were quoting. I'll never go the bucket seat route again! It's been a nightmare. 2 tuners and 1 tuning shop have lost a potentially good customer over this.

update edit: The silver motordrive rail is coming away from the black subaru rail, p*ssed off doesn't even come close to describing how I feel after handing The Racing Line in Halifax £450 for sod all.

Why does the motor trade continue to spit in our faces?

Cheers, do they touch street cars? I read somewhere they are track/rally car based like BTRPrep. I need to book the car in for diagnostics on a bad idle car judder and I'm running out of garages.

Car is actually booked in at a local performance garage tomorrow for an oil and filter change, I tried all over the Wakefield district for high end Millers 10-40 but couldn't find any. I Settled for Mobil 1 S 10-40, hope it's ok.

Well removing the ac probably lost you 500-1k quid in resale value as no one will actually want a wrx without it, and wrx's dont make the best drag cars, the gearing isnt brill, then engine isnt strong and basically, the car is more of a quick cruiser than an out and out drag slag

Just dont come up against a Spec C, with his a/c on he will show you his heels now that is a drag car as thats what it was designed for (its also the quickest scoob with the exception of the limited spec c variant with 316bhp as standard )

Rick will work on any Subaru, he used to be the man at Bowetts in Leeds before they went to Saab.

I got a 1 litre bottle of 10-60 CFS ( Millers ) from the place at the town end of Dewsbury Road near Westgate End.... soz can't remember the name. They stock the lot.

I'd rather not sell the car, hence why I've butchered it!! Weak engine and fuelling system is why I'm staying at 260-280bhp. Not sure about gearing, the car will hit 70 in 2nd and my shoddy changes would hinder me on the strip using lower ratios. A lot of lightweight scoobs/rs evos are changing at 45-55. catch 22, quicker revs but less boost loss.

I was told that 20kg loss is a "5bhp" gain so my car is still way short of 300bhp. It's past standard 265bhp STI performance though.

The shop by the snooker club, I bought the ill fated EVO IV from the now defunct Crystal Cars behind it. I had a massive fall out with the Mitsi staff in Leeds. The portly bald bloke on the desk, not a nice man at all.

I really like the 17" BK racing eclipse wheels I have on at the moment but I may have buckled one in the snow when I performed a failed handbrake turn on a roundabout. Car judders like mad at 75mph. Also the wheels aren't naturally gunmetal grey and age is revealing blonde (golden) highlights.

Thinking of buying these.

I phoned Motordrive last week about returning the £125 T45 full car kit that The Racing Line said wasn't suitable (Racing Line claim Motordrive echoed their sentiment in phonecalls they had with them about seat fitment) and Motordrive said it wasn't a good time to bring them back so we both decided on today as a good time, but Paul I think it was said to phone them this monday morning to make sure they'd be in, anyway the woman answering the phone this morning said she'd tell Alan to ring me back in 10 minutes. An hour later still no phone call and everytime I try to ring again the answering machine comes on with the message "sorry nobody is here to take your call."

...is it just me?

edit update: Not quite a refund as such but I've managed to secure a check off motordrive but I feel a little bit bad as the T45 car kit wasn't quite complete, it seems The Racing Line haven't quite given me it all back.

Motordrive informed me The Racing Line had phoned them 5 times trying to find out how to mount the seats. Also Motordrive showed me how the sub frame tubes should have been fixed in the car and it was different to how they showed us the first time!!!!

UPDATE 13TH AUG: Just been to Horbury Bridge tyres to get the wheels re-balanced as Gordon's Tyres in Wakefield have done a woeful job at balancing them.

Just fitted an STI Intercooler, STI bonnet scoop and STI undertray. I can't feel any difference, perhaps slightly more lag but increased grunt higher up the revs. Not had it mapped as I'm still running the worn engine though it's still running and not yet smoking!

I've still got the EJ25 block and pink injectors that I bought off a user on here (E M B) to go in.

Car with bigger scoop:

Thinking of doing something random:

The car has developed a sudden loud rattling from the back suspension and I've just got back from RPM- Ricky P Motoring and he's not only pointed out the car is lowered!!! but the top nut maybe loose on the shocker so I've booked it in.

I'm not sure how low the car is or what springs they are but the bottom few coils on the red rear springs have black rubbers on them. The fronts say 02/04

EDIT 19/7/10: Kwik Fit wanted £140 for a top mount and RPM never got back to me with a price for a top mount, I took the car to Precious Metal and they rightly diagnosed a worn shocker in seconds. So new shocker fitted and a new Exide battery too at Valley Batteries, the car is dropping to bits!

Overdue update: Credit crunch is killing me but I've nearly saved up enough for a de-cat downpipe since July 2010! Engine is still running fine since RE Motorsport condemned it and 'The Car People' refused to help us out, still no smoke and it flew through the last emissions test! Tough old engine!
There still isn't an STI that can live with the bugger off the lights!

Edit: 14/4/2011

Just done some farty little bits with the car, I've painted the ghastly silver front grill mesh black and stuck a Prodrive badge on the boot so it doesn't look so weedy WRX from behind.

Car looks mean from an angle with no grill at all, slightly odd viewed directly infront though...

No lol, I can't even find any Subaru touch up paint for the bonnet! I promised on RLFANS.COM that I'd stop watching Wakefield under Kear, due to his scooting from dummy half obsession. I'm sure I'll be back watching the boys in 2015 in the new stadium.

A very interesting and at times entertaining read. Good choice of battery BTW. I'm sure I've seen your car on Wakefield Road heading towards Ossett. Anyway keep the thread updated I'm sure you're going to have a few more escapades with your Impreza.
