I have a Forester S-Turbo 171Bhp stock IIRC.

I have fitted the following bits, most of which I had laying around.
VF22
STi TMIC
Walbro fuel pump
straight through 3" turbo back exhuast, all cats gone.
Re map running 1.25bar
White line front rear drop linkS & STi rear ARB

Have not had it on RR but lets just say it held it own against my mates E46 M3

Hehehehe excellent! I love sleepers.....I think the best types are not ones that look like they are about to end up on the scrappy but good looking and nice and clean, well looked after "ordinary" versions that go like **** off a shovel.

If the driver of the "said better performance marque" can't smile rather than get the hump when getting the surprise then it says more about the character of that driver than anything else

I once got owned by a sleeper and (superfast) Metro and laughed my head off

not sure how much the base zt260 car goes for, but i would assume its pennies, like the rest of the range.

My uncle has the 260, it isn't massively fast but a really good package, he has been in the Dreadnought Supercharged one as he knows the owner, they need it to lift it into the next league but the rest of it doesnt need any changes its so over engineered.

But, you end up looking out for any opportunity to embarass quicker cars, and you rarely get the chance in reality as most people aren't that bothered, so the whole idea of a sleeper car is lost and you're really just driving round in a old tatty quick ****box.
I dunno, recently had an awful lot of unwanted attention from the "modern" hot hatch gang who seem to think straight line is all a car is good for. Embarrassed some smug **** in his 05 Ibiza Cupra the other day. Was haggling infront on his mobile, so I went to overtake him. Then decided he didn't like this so booted it on the straights and admittedly had me. Come the next roundabout he was damn lucky to have his traction control as he lifted off mid corner (I did too, but I actually controlled a little delieberate oversteer). Looked a bit miffed when I passed him with minimal wheel spin coming out the roundabout.

Sorry, I shouldn't have admitted that on here

P.S. I dream of 250bhp in my standard looking 205 one day. No bucket seats, no graphics or exterior mods (well apart from my white wheels and big brake kit), just a tuned to **** engine and loads of speeeed

some smug arsed kid in a pretty big merc earlier on this evening.,didnt let me out in traffic and was on his mobile, i got out a couple of cars behind him, took the outside lane on the run down to a single , pulled in in front of him (not dangerously) he had the gall to flash his lights!... I looked straight at him through the rear-view and raised my arms and shrugged..got down to a double lane on the next island and he wanted it, I booted it and left him struggling in his own Turbo lag.
sat waiting him at the next junction, he levelled, down went his window and he asked what I was running? Told him " Oh, just no mobile , no turbo and a heavy right foot" winked and blew him into my dust again

Power to weight ratio on my little Mk2 is pretty good so can **** scare most bigger cars for a while but if the drivers a dip like this one, i can Pwn them

I had a m8 who bought a ren 5 turbo raider accident damaged. Wile he was getting new bumpers & waiting for time to spray them he loaned the bumpers & a few other parts of his Gran's 5 campus to get it on the road & have a bit of a test drive.

Car looked like crap but it was like **** of a shovel.

Scary experience driving round the industrial estate when he first got it going with no windows or anything in it.

My Furby's a bit of a sleeper. 180/312 and 30-70 in 6 seconds from a crappy Czech 5 door diesel hunchback I used to have a Sierra Sapphire 1.8 GL many years ago, but with a superb suspension set-up it was hard to catch once rolling, although terribly slow off the line.

I used to w*rk with a guy who had a Fiat 2.0 twin cam Supermirafiori engine that he transplanted into several Lada's over the years, with accompanying brakes, suspension and chassis tweeks. They were always rusty and battered, but went like stink.

Currently, I am thinking a Volvo 740/760/940/960 type thing running a 400 bhp plus motor and upgraded brakes and suspension to cope, but running standard looking wheels, preferably an estate, anyone any idea on the specifics to achieve this, which engine etc ?

Would you be happy to drive a ratty, pig ugly, sheddy looking Volvo estate if it did the business or would you rather drive something slower and less obnoxious ? I personally don't have any need to drive anything with any status so I am not bothered, in fact I think I would really enjoy it.
Mate, if you fancy a fast ratty volvo, do you fancy buying this?

Its the Ex police Volvo T5 Estate I used on the Scumball rally. Got 6 months tax and test til november, is rediculously fast and is currently for sale

It's been nicknamed "Terminator" on account of how "It absolutely will not stop" and took the 2000 miles in its stride.

Best of all, the engine is a beast, its the same engine out of the Audi Quattro Sport, just with a 20valve head on it.

Trust me, you will never get bored of burning people off at the traffic lights in a Volvo Estate. Extra comedy is generated if you have a sofa in the back!

PM me if you're interested mate, its yours for 500 quid and yes, all the crap on it in that photo comes off!

AB, looks good value for £500, not doing anything at the moment as am away quite a bit over the next month, had an 850 T5 Estate a few years ago, was a great car but I think I want RWD, currently thinking 940 but need to work out what engine or tuning parts to use, what can be done to the suspension to make it handle.

The T5 engines are superb and do go on and on, surprised the arent used in more conversions as they are cheap, plentiful and very tunable, there is a guy on retro rides doing a Quattro Sport replica using a T5 engine, apparently it does just bolt up to the Audi Gearbox.

Trouble with the T5 is containing the power, even with the massive flywheel and them being mapped to reign the torque in a bit they soon overwhelm the front tyres, hence why I am thinking 300/350 bhp RWD but need to build a shopping list, so after suggestions of what needs doing, i.e.

Base car - Manual 2.3, pref saloon, must be solid with decent compression, dont want to do a rebuild straight away.

Poly Bush Kit
Uprated ARB
Springs/Dampers or coilovers

Are the standard Brakes up to it ?
Braided hoses

Seats - Don't want big squashy leather arm chairs

Engine

Which ? probably the 2.3 red block they come with, bigger I/C and turbo, induction, exhaust, remapped, need to find out whether this will produce decent power.

Wheels, steel but with decent tyres

What else would I need to do to it, would I regret it, would it be fun to drive ?

This by the way, is my inspiration,

Jeez, that would literally crumble as you tried to get it onto a flatbed/trailer and you would just have a pile of red dust!!

I like the lexus soarer in basic clothing, looks ordinary, but goes well, especially tweaking the twin turbo model, and then there is also the 4ltr v8....

Have to agree, has to be the best all-time sleeper

A taxi of some sort would be pretty cool, like in the movie, a pug 405 or 406 with a monster engine

Or something really common / not special, like a renault laguna

Although not massive power,a normal citroen ax (non gt body kit) with a vts engine and a turbo would be my cup of tea. Light, good handling, no one would expect it

I had a Citroen AX Forte 1.1 (still badged) with a VTR engine (90bhp) in it. Saxo hubs and brakes. Fully stripped. Lowered, and blah blah. The handing was ace, really like the proverbial Go-kart. Surprised lots of stuff as well, but one bump and you're dead, haha.

Only problem with mine it was a back-yard conversion, with lots of short cuts (esp on the electrics), so it was a bit of an **** keeping it on the road. I could imagine if you're the type to get your hands dirty it'd be a great project.

You see plenty for alright money on pistonheads and on the AX owners club.

Good things:-

Very low insurance (with everything declared was about £20 a month).
Really good on petrol.
Good handling.
Grin factor.
Park it anywhere and not care.
DANGER.

Bad things:-
Unreliable (but could be sorted if built properly, although a stripped Saxo wouldn't be that far off in weight terms I reckon).
Crappy looking car.
DANGER.

Exactly what I had (although it started as a GTI so had the bodykit)

Made 300bhp and was absolutely mental.

Dad had a couple in the late 80s - Ford P100 pickup that almost looked stock (just bigger back wheels and low profile tyres) - with a 400bhp V8 shoehorned into the bonnet.
Then a BBR Racing Shogun - almost 300bhp and almost stock looking.

Sounds exactly like my little girly Clio 172 lol

Looks totally standard, but runs a healthy 274bhp/ton. Only running 7psi of supercharged goodness, soon to be nearer to 2 bars once the bottom end is built to take it!

Is it a silver 172?

I raced a 172 on the a34 bypass today in my smokey old Astra GTE, and the clio was shockingly quick. Catching up with me!

Thing was I thought it had an intercooler in the bumper when I looked closer at it in the traffic!

Cheers,

Haha,

It's just a standard 8 valve GTE!

No not really :P

It's got the calibra turbo engine in it C20LET.

FMIC, exhaust, filter, cams, phase 1 chip (i think), boost obviously raised.

Its running about 220 to 230bhp I would have thought on a good day!

only weight about 1032kg though so don't need much to be quick in one!

I reckon yours is making about 250 260?? Its reet quick, I normally eat clio's alive!

I dont know too much about this car as I bought it recently randomly off ebay on a whim! Not bad performance for 2grand.

Cheers!

Jon.

christ, read the first bit and thought I need to take the car back for a RR and health check!!! lol

No wonder you were so bloody quick then, I was quite shocked and hoped to god it was turbo'd or similar as it was FAR to fast to be standard! My baffles have completely gone, so when you first put your foot down I wasn't sure if you were going for it... then you just disappeared! lol
Bet that frightens the life out of the locals!

You're pretty much bang on the money with the power in mine too, good guess as it made exactly 260bhp and 221lbs/ft

We'll have to meet up sometime if you fancy it, wouldn't mind having a nosey at your motor pal!
