Issue is I'm not too keen on letting an unknown chap (or chappess) loose in my 330bhp hatch. Will they rag it, will they spend the two weeks joy riding? Will they fiddle with the diff settings, knock the STi drive into S# and stuff her into a tree? Will they not simmer the turbo? Will they kerb my alloys?

The mrs tells me not to worry - being as the valet parkers want to keep their jobs etc and will not thrash my car, but I'm still a little worried.

Thinking I'll set the tracker to alert me if the car goes over 70 mph, reset the trip before I leave it and then remote immobilise it whilst I'm out of the country.

Would you leave your STi with a valet parking firm or am I being stupid? A taxi to the airport and back would have been more than twice the price, but would it have bought peace of mind?

I raised the issue with remote immobilisng over on the Hatch forum.

I am led to believe you can no longer do this on the Metasat as it's deemed unsafe.

The paragraph for this function in my Metasat guide has been blanked off as 'Not Applicable' - can someone confirm whether they have tried it or not?

I use airport parking all the time, never book Valet and only book secure airport parking where you park up yourself, look for a good spot where there is a large bay or at an end, away from the path so no suitcase dents etc, stop lock on and off I go, also take a pic of any cars around me just in case!

I always drive in so can load up from the road side, my worry is that I park nose to tail and some oaf lumps his suitcase on my bonnet!

One time I used Valet at heathrow (big company) my Focus ST came back with a cracked mirror, they paid up but still a little hassle aftre a nice break away.

Secure all the way.

Posted this in the general section.Any help would be appreciated...Went to see a dark grey uk sti hatch today. Is an 08,has the PPP,looks in great nick and looks quite mean.
Going back for test drive tommorrow. It has 19k on the clock and is up for £19,999 from a subaru dealers.
What are your thoughts re the price?Am aware of the mapping/dead engine issues and am aware that the 330s with the prodrive remaps are also succeptible to the same problem. So,what should i be looking out for-a printout saying that the work has been done and if so,who is doing the remap on the PPP's-local dealerships,i presume?
Paart from the usual,Any little things that you have noticed with your car, that i should be looking for?
Lastly, realistically,do you think that there will be much movement on the price(am going to try my hardest) for a second hander.
Have my modified 02 wagon in px,so fingers crossed...
As usual,

Default engine check light on & flashing cruise control light, anyone else had this?

I had this happen several times just after PPP was fitted. This (I was told) was the engine management going into safe mode. Switching the ignition off for a bit (can't remember how long) cleared the fault, but I made the dealer replace the ECU. It took them three goes and what was referred to as a custom map for prodrive (possible snake oil) to sort. Car has been fine since. The safe mode was triggered by what was described as an over boost situation and only happened in sport sharp.

Hope this helps.

2.5 euro spec hatch

Guess a sensor's gone down? booked in with the dealer next week as first apointment she could get, just wondered if there were any common faults? Not got anything to read the fault codes.

Thanks for any clues

Airport parking, I always use the Valet service at the terminal, the actual BAA operated on airport service. I have used it several times, and the service has been great, always leave it in "I", and then write down the mileage. Very convenient if a little more expensive. What I would like is to get a map for "I" mode like they have in the corvette, which is a valet mode, restricted to 35mph, and minimal bhp. Then let my wife use it like this for the school run

I've tried it mate, doesn't work, you just keep getting texts back saying it's IMM.ON, but the car works as normal...well it does on mine anyway

As far as Subaru UK are concerned, the 330s does not suffer from the red-line fuel cut mapping bug, and thus did not need the re-flash... so that's the line you'll get...

If you're worried, don't buy it.... BUT if your going to get a custom map done for it anyway (+50bhp gains just by getting a mapper to tweek the ecu ) then you can give yourself some added security it's mapped correctly...and it'll be bloody quick then.. and we hope more reliable from this ringland failure issue... time will tell.

Sounds like they put a bleed valve in Potiriadis, to control the overboost surge.

As usual,
It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, the hatch has held it's value quite well, despite the recession, due to there being very few of them around...so there is a plus point to most of the current Impreza owners winging on about it not being a 'true Impreza' and not having a big rear wing and gold wheels LOL

I would request that as part of the deal that their service department performs the ECU re-flash/update from Prodrive (and ask for the update number/watch them do it).

The front drivers door handle assembly (with the switches in it) scratches easily, if it's marked ask for a replacement at that kind of money

Other than the ECU/engine issue (that occured within the first few months/miles) I have nothing to report after 2 years and 30K miles. I have done alot of mods to mine with no problems either since I got a decent ECU re-map. It's a good car once you get a few things sorted out

I have checked all over, and cannot find evidence of a bleed valve upon my person. I have booked into the canary wharf medical centre for a full body CAT scan. Cannot believe my local dealer performed invasive surgery on me without charging or notifying me!

Seriously though, I was not aware of any underhood mods beyond just reflashing the ECU with an updated map.

Yes sorry LOL

I've just got back from picking up my 330s exhaust and Iain informed me there is no boost limit below 3500rpm on the standard (& 330s) map... so anything with a free-flow cat or de-cat exhaust needs that limit "programmed in" otherwise you'll get the CEL come up in cold weather due to boost spikes. (Hense why loads of 330s's had to be recalled to have the limit flashed in)

Billyray: Make sure the 330s has had it's "boost limiter reflash" done. I assume the dealer has this flash update.

Iain also said anything above 1.2bar (roughly 350bhp) is more risky due to the 2008 engine being highly sensitive.. and perticularly fragile with any kind of DET.
I'm going to quiz Duncan on his thoughts when he comes on Friday

Scooby L, what did Iain supply with the exhaust, was it backbox, center pipe and Sports cat?

Also make sure you let me know how you get on with Duncan as chatted with him the otherday ref mapping mine, do you have any other supporting mods?

Cheers

Iain sold me the fast-flow cat downpipe section and backbox (centre section same as STI, as you said, so no need to replace)

Only other mod I'm doing is the panel filter... I'm keeping the OEM box, the extra horses the CAI offers are all 5000rpms and higher, with more torque I agree, but I'm not chasing max figures, just an improvement on the standard map....Oh..and a bit more of that flat 4 noise!

Cheers, had similar thoughts on the CAI and was going to opt for K&N panel replacement.

Had not thought about the Cat though, will have to try and source one of those, do you know if Iain has anymore?

Quick questions for anyone:

Standard STI (not 330S) - does it have heated door mirrors as I can't believe it does not (if so mine are not working well!).

Is your paintwork soft, chip easily and scratches like hell (mine is being machine detailed/winter sealed this weekend to fix some of the marks on it since new)?

Is it only the 330S that has the heated wipers?

Can't believe they have deleted some of these SO cheap options if they have done it!

Yes, seem to be a few differences coming up between uk and Euro, mind are heated and power fold and have the element in the front screen for the wipers, also have heated seats in my basic euro spec STI which I though were standard on UK cars until I was at a dealers the other day and spotted blank where my switch is.
