Well I've been informed the warranty is defiantly invalid on my Engine now there's a surprise lol Tbh i didnt expect anything different... but for all you guys that think being able to swap mods back to standard if it goes bang think again subaru actually come out to your vehicle and download allsorts from the ecu specific parameters that knows something is wrong and vin number is in there somewere to. :-O.

So subaru still need to admit there is a problem with the engine maps on these cars !!!
how come a completly standard car cant even reach 10k miles before blowing up but a remapped version kicking out more power and torque can do 22k and still go strong...

New spec will be forged wiseco pistons, K1 rods, Cossie main bearings and head gaskets, ARP studs etc, RCM super dooper oil pump and some other odds and ends.

Meaning it'll be a forged bottom end capable of 500hp.

FWIW - another silver hatch is in their garage "now" getting the same treatment - anyone from here ?
yep thats mine

Its a great setup down at enginetuner, they definately know their stuff.

Hopefully i will get it back at the end of the week and start the run in. Then I bet my poor credit card will take another bashing.

I got my hatch with 12k on the clock and it hadn't had the reflash. Dealership didn't know anything about the issue or reflash until I told them - was done and car is now at 15k.

Have been told that the dealership will allow the usual exhaust/filter changes and that these will not affect the warranty - good job as it's just had a Magnaflow and K&N put on it.....

Nah my motor didnt go pop but I have been constantly in fear since I did nearly 8000 miles with the original "bad" map. Its in for the same engine spec u listed + full decat H+S exhaust. Then after run in will go for some kind of air filter upgrade (not decided on which) and remap. Then i will be waiting to see results of enginetuner's project to see where I go next. I was gonna wait till my warranty ran out next year but my boss just bought a new m3 so couldnt stand him bragging for a whole year.

I believe it will although you'll probably need to modify your rear bumper as it's the standard STi quad pipe design.

Still interested?

Looks simple enough to make, I have a mate who runs a wheel/tyre/exhaust place, he makes stainless exhausts, we could get a group buy going?

Did you get the reflash done befroe it went pop?
Was it the ring land failure?
I also got one of the Motor depot STIs and have the same Service book /warranty issues but have been assured that the Warranty is valid (sale of goods act or something)
At first the local dealer said it needed to be registered for the reflash but now he has done it.
So hopefully will be ok

Cool Yep.

Walsh - no reflash. Had run perfectly for 15,000 miles and then lack of power, engine started missing and a slight rattling at the nsf, which slowly got increasingly louder. Thats when I stopped driving it as when the rings / piston fails - oils out - rod punches side of block - very dead engine.

I had always thought it wouldn't happen to me ... and believe me its the last thing I need right now.

The silver lining is that after the pain / expense of a proper rebuild - it will be great to really get some power out of it SAFELY.

I hope for all the other folks out there that your motors will stay good - ecutek remap should be top of your list. PPP power at a fraction of the price and no crap map.

I was going this way when it happened, already had the Litcho caik ready to fit etc. BUT it didn't happen that way.

Jay - full de-cat exhaust to be fitted with no remap - I'm sure the wise owls will say 'be careful out there'.

Did you get it on the group buy ? Can I ask how much ? I certainly fancy the H&S setup to the Milltek.

The TT MD555 seems a good choice for these engines, but they may blown away by the new twin scroll Litcho setup.

Keep us posted...

I did question that also, but as the engine will be being run in ie off boost. then a basic map will be fine.
No group buy on the exhaust enginetuner are sourcing it, so no idea of exact cost yet.

I think you demonstrated why a remap is needed.

Twin scroll will be a very expensive step for a standard single scroll car - far better to go down the MD321 route.

Unless you've been in a properly mapped MD321 car I'd think twice of making claims that "but they may blown away by the new twin scroll Litcho setup".......

As for the reflash, mine's had it done. I did talk it over with Bob Rawle (who does all our mapping) and he reckoned the reflash was fine - he'd have remapped the car if I'd wanted but I was quite happy with what he'd told me so stuck with the reflash.
