Picked up this jdm hatch a few weeks ago. Will be looking at getting it mapped soon, apart from a downpipe and intake what else would be recommended for it’s first map?
Thanks
The standard airbox is good for 400 bhp according to renown Subaru mappers.
A 3-port boost solenoid and grade 7 spark plugs are a good addition, best to speak with your mapper.
You may come across its cousin, my 20th anniversary was sold to a chap in Grimsby.

an upgraded turbo actuator and FPR would be good additions.
Please don't focus on the fuel lines, they are placed there temp. while we wait for new RCM updated lines.
Having been lurking for the past 1008 days sadly suffering a cracked liner to my 08 Hatch that was already Forged and built in the UK by the previous owners, for reasons unknown to me they skimped out on doing a CDB and yet had been running 450bhp/450ft-lbs stupidly at 1.75bar so the hidden damage was done and fast forward 4 years later (after fighting a small mysterious coolant leak....we now know where it was going), despite dropping to a smaller turbo and 1.45 bar metal fatigue and time reared it's ugly face on April 2020.
Worse time for it to happen in the midst of Covid meant most garages were closed so took quite some time to get the engine out and shipped to Maptek in Poland known for their excellent work on the Race/Rally Subaru scene in Poland who stripped the engine down and sent me the bad news. We took the decision to order in a new short block from Subaru, ditching the factory pistons and rods and just retaining the new crank and case halves (sadly my budget couldn't extent to an Arrow Billet Crank) and off it went for machining with their own CDB design, 14mm headstuds and a long wait from both the engineering shop and of course getting the parts in for the build. The build objective was not to run big numbers but to build the engine and car for our local roads in Malta and nearby track in Sicily both of which are extremely short so the objective was to have a highly responsive set up and around 420bhp/620NM torque on pump fuel and 20-30bhp on FlexFuel Methanol mix auto adjusting in the ECUtek Racerom based on Alcohol % being run.
Latest Mahle Pistons, Boostline I-Beam Rods, ACL Race Bearing, 2PK modified 11mm Oil Pump, new AVCS pulleys, 2PK Modified water pump, new coil packs, plugs, AVCS sensors and a whole bunch more new parts to refresh. Up top went with Lateral LP05 cams, Inconel valves, upgraded valve springs etc, but opted not to port the head for my particular set up. A few Maptek trick mods done during the build and of course fully blueprinted to the builders clearances, who also happens to be the person who will be mapping the engine.
I won't go into how much this all cost (because well we don't talk about those things) but in July 2021 I received back my built engine ready to be mated to: KillerB Holy Header, Perrin Large Bore Uppipe, KillerB sump, IAG baffle plate and pickup, Perrin boost pipes, TD05-20G Ball Bearing Turbo with 3 inch Anti Surge Inlet, ID1050X Injectors, Perrin AOS, Mocal Oil Cooler, Mishimoto Triple Core Radiator, new 3 inch 100CPSI downpipe to replace the decat as our MOT is impossible to pass otherwise, bunch of Whiteline goodies on the suspension and drivetrain, Xtreme Twin Plate Organic Clutch/Flywheel etc, MeisterR Coilovers, refreshed Alcon 6 Pots 365mm upfront and Alcon 4 Pots on the rear, running ProjectMu HC800 pads front and DSUNO rears, braided lines, etc.
Perhaps the most exciting and unusual mod suggested by Maptek from their Rally experience was to address the long gearing that STI 6 speed suffers from with its 3.54 final drive and 1.10:1 centre drop gears that meant I rarely got out of 4th gear even during spirited driving back in the day. Up came a 4,29 Front Crown Wheel Pinion from RS to go into the gearbox and sourcing of a R180 3.9 rear differential from an older JDM STI in order to have a final drive of 3,9 resulting in yes a loss of top speed, but being able to fully utilise the 6 speed box and have more torque translated down on to the road in each gear and that truly has been an epic change to how the car feels and drives.
After a long wait to get a slot from a local performance shop on the 9th Jan 2023, 1008 days after her last run, we cranked her with no plugs, built the oil pressure, did our final checks and she fired up within 2 seconds coming back to life, with my anxiety slowing drifting away! Bled the coolant and then 30 miles gentle driving completely off boost to check for leaks and so on, back into the shop for a precautionary oil change to ensure that during the time the engine sat waiting for install there were no foreign objects/particles that had made their way in. None found, in went a new filter and 40W mineral oil with a high Zinc content and other additives and I am now on mile 440 of 1,000 running in slowly building up to a current max of 4,000 rpm and 7PSI boost as I run it through her paces and try my best to do 1,000 miles gentle running in on an island that measures 17 miles long and 9 miles wide!!
It's been an exciting and expensive journey but I am finally falling back in love with my Hatch, if you'd like to see the build pictures let me know and will get some up.

StI450, very nice, it sounds like you now have a really nice car.
Can i just ask where you got the bonnet scoop from or do you need to buy an entire new bonnet to have that type of scoop as i like it plus i need a new bonnet scoop myself for my UK Sti hatchback.

The lack of an exhaust note will annoy you over time if it has the stock exhaust, thats one of the things i'd do first before getting it mapped along with better induction, a full service, a 3 port boost solenoid and a better pitch mount for better throttle responsive to stop the engine pitching under acceleartion.

Thanks for the kind words. As I run a front mount the std scoop becomes redundant. This is a Reverse scoop designed and built by Maptek in Poland and just slots in instead of the factory scoop. Aids with cooling especially at low speeds. info@maptek.pl

I like that vent also, what does the underside of the bonnet vent look like? Water ingress would be bigger concern here in UK than Malta 😁

I think I may have seen it not too long ago. There isn’t many around here. I’ve always used Scoobyclinic on my previous cars so will be using them again. My last Impreza was a blob sti and I feel I went too far with that so don’t want to do the same again.
The MY11 on UK cars came with a Clarion (86201FG320) Audio head unit which could be upgraded to a Pioneer Satnav.
Didn't the 330s have the Subaru "accessory" Kenwood satnav as standard fit??
If not then Audio would have been a Clarion 86201FG341
or The OEM Kenwood 86271SC020 Satnav/Radio
Both systems have an auxiliary input terminal under the centre armrest. Whether it is a 3.5mm socket (as required by the DAB unit) on the early models I'm not sure as there are 3 versions of it.
The one listed against your VIN is the 3 RCA socket version which would sugest it came with OEM Kenwood navi system.

PX5 based Android headunit 4GB RAM, plenty of built in storage (easily expanded with USB sticks).
Comes with carplay dongle aswell for wireless or wired Apple car play and all the other cables in the picture for USB expansion, GPS antenna etc.
Well, it finally happened, my forged Hawkeye WRX Wagon died! I was running about 400bhp through a forged engine on a hybrid vf48 turbo and the diagnostics was piston ring failure. I had the car forged at 100k miles and it died at about 180k miles. The cost of the engine rebuild and the welding required at the back of the car meant repairing it was not a viable option . So now I am the proud owner of a JDM Hatch STi and it's great , although I do miss the burble. It has an induction kit, AP Racing 6 pots at the front and 4 pots at the rear, and it's remapped to almost 350bhp. The quick rack on the JDMs is superb, so responsive and rev range reminds me of my old JDM Integra Type R. I do have a couple of questions:
What turbo is on the JDM Hatch STIs, I know it is a twin scroll, but which one?
Where can I get hold of smoked headlights and rear lights? I assume these are road legal.
Sorry chaps, as starter of this thread I should really post more. Anyway quick update, after my stock exhaust split in two on the NC500 a year ago, I've finally bought a Cobra system and should have it back on the road middle of next month

I have a Cobra Sport+ exhaust on my UK Sti hatch, they are a great exhaust imo, they don't give a horrible drone when your driving normally but they come alive when you put your foot down with a really nice Subaru sound.
I've sold one of my Sti hatches, just the one left to sell. The modified UK 2.5 has gone, i had a lot of fun in it but i got made an offer for it that i couldn't really turn down. With being away from owning a Subaru for a long time that particular car was a big llearning curve of owning a 15 year old Subaru, it certainly fast tracked you back into the world of owning a Subaru and all that goes with it, they are deffo a love hate thing, some days you love them, other times it's like having a wife that's trying to stop you watching match of the day because she wants to watch a soppy love film.

thats the best explanation of what its like to own a scooby i've ever heard. I relate to that too much. And from someone who had never owned anything half decent before, going to a 20 year old WRX has been a steep learning curve and comes with a lot more than I thought in my head when dreaming of owning one.
Fitting instructions, to see what's involved, attached:
I just intended to keep the box in the glovebox and run cable up from there up in behind stereo which is handy done (twice now lol) if you didnt want to do all the centre console malarky
