I drove the STi to work today. What an elixir! It's been the first "proper" drive this year after the car's winter hibernation, its MOT and yearly service last week; I decided to give the planned trackday on the 31st March at Cadwell a miss due to the snowfall). My commute is along a Roman B road that is great fun to drive and reminds me why we own/drive these cars; I have often thought about selling it but I must have been mad! A couple of photos from the work's car park. I've added a little 'S' letter (it comes from a copy of a S206 badge) at the bottom right of the 20th anniversary badge and I've been in two minds whether to keep it or not as I am not a fan of fake badges (e.g. 'turbo wrx intercooler 16V DOHC' lol) but on the other hand it's a subtle detail for those in the know (my car has the S206 suspension fitted and soon to have the S206 flexible rear subframe supports fitted as well). What do you guys reckon about it?

Damage:
split front bumper in a few places, took out fog light cover, brake vent AND broke inner arch plastic
So, I need some parts. Tried eBay and have registered on a used parts engine...
The rear most 4 inner arch cover securing plastic poppers are underneath the wing and lower skirt - does this mean both need removal to fit a new inner arch?
Also, any suggestions where I can get a used inner arch from?

The car has the adjustable Whiteline lower arms on the rear, on the front i have the anti-lift kit and all Whiteline bushes fitted as well as their larger top bolts for the shocks and of course there upgraded anti roll bars and links. I will get the Ohlins suspension set up and aligned once the engine goes back in.
Looking for some wheel suggestions. Really want speedline turinis but looks like will have to buy new. And suggestions for nice 8.5" wide wheels, straight fit that are available that anyone knows of.
Some of you guys might remember, I posted a while back about a damaged cosworth Sti I bought… well it’s been almost 3 years and for various reasons it has been sat in my garage with all the parts. I’ve just not had the time to do anything with it.
well, as of last week I finally had the car all panelled up, just waiting for a slot in the paint shop.
unfortuntely I’ve recently realised that it’s running quite rough and it’s now been diagnosed with bent valves. The timing must have jumped when it was crashed. A reputable engine builder near me is fully booked for 3 months, so I guess it’s going to spend another summer in my garage!
I need to have a thorough chat with a couple more engine builders, but I’m confused about whether all valves should be replaced or just the bent ones? (I don’t know how many are bent yet) also does it need heads skimmed? The cosworth apparently doesn’t suffer from head gasket issues because it has cosworth gaskets and bigger studs - does anyone know what size?
id appreciate if someone on here could shed some light on the original spec in terms of stud size and valve types /size and maybe suggest what other upgrades / preventative maintenance you would do. I am planning on keeping the car long term so want to make sure I’m rectifying whatever it needs while the engine is out.
I will be getting a specialist to do the work but I’d like to do my own research too.

Only thing for me is the loss of rear view mirror presence if you know what i mean, i think a scoop always helps with people jumping out of the way on the motorway etc

Bummer. On the bright side, there have been virtually no cs400s for sale recently, and no doubt values have jumped due to lack of supply.
Someone more knowledgeable will no doubt tell you about the valves, but I'd imagine that they all should be done ideally; it's an ideal opportunity to check the block over as well, so I'd do everything that you can as a refresh.
I'm also fairly sure that I've heard negative feedback from a well known builder about Cosworth gaskets. I dont think cs400s are immune from the common 2.5l issues, but I stand to be corrected

They use standard sti heads iirc - so that would then assume the are using 11mm headstuds arp/rcm or likes?
if it was mine and having just went through a rebuild (on a forged engine after it let go - pulled headstuds out of block) - id get the heads rebuilt/skimmed and replace all that needs replaced. its the type of thing you want to be only doing once - and doing it all will give you piece of mind once its all back in.
whoever your specialist is, id be inclined to take it to someone who has rebuilt cosworth engines - there have been failures in them so they arent indestructible

yeah i had considered that but i actually thing the scoop removed makes the car look wider again which should hopefully sort the motorway rear view presence - but im barely on motorways these days with working from home - might even be a placebo effect but pretty sure you can feel a difference on front at higher speeds now. the blanking plate made a difference initially and then this made a difference again.
ive a set of mustang vents in the garage also which i think id maybe see could i get fitted in same area as WRC bonnet, the mustang vents have undertrays so would stop water ingress or at least let me redirect it away - but thats way down the list of stuff.
next up is wheel change - have a set of speedline sl2 marmora et40 to fit but need to get the 15mm spacers off and wheels studs replaced first

Thanks, I am going to get in touch with those guys - I know they have really good reputations on here.
My local builder is Richard Henry in Bradford - I know he's well regarded too, but he hasn't done a Cs400 before and he's super busy - mostly Hatch STI's getting rebuilt.
At a minimum I think it needs either inlet or exhaust valves - RH have said they would just do whichever set it needs. Plus new gaskets and skimming, they wouldn't recommend upgrading the studs unless I'm wanting to push the power past 450-480.... which I don't think I am at the mo. Beyond that, their plan is to inspect it and see what else it could need - which I'm happy with.
The challenge is going to be getting the car recovered to either Northampton (150 miles) or Birtley (100 miles) - maybe I can just get the engine sent across to either one.
I've been watching Autotrader / Ebay.. The last one was up at £42k at Subaru in Otley - it sold pretty quickly I think. Ultimately my repaired one wont be worth full value, but I've wanted one since I had a standard hatch STI a few years ago... so I'm looking forward to actually driving it.
I have done more searching, and found a few complaints of the Cosworth gaskets. Richard Henry (Andy) mentioned that there are better, modern options now

Anyone in the market for one of these type of head units?
It's the latest SoC 7862 with 6GB RAM and a 1200x720 display on Android 10 made by Navifly, also has an optical and coax digital out.
I can't get it working properly for my specific needs, but as a stereo etc of course it's all good, built in wireless car play too.
When you say you can't get it working for your specific needs, can you expand on that, what is it that you can't get working ? Will all the features of this stereo work in a hatch, is it plug in and play and does it have sat nav and DRB with all the relevant antennas. How much are you asking ?

I use USB OTG (on the go) extensively to facilitate the HDMI input for car PC, maintain connection to the Canbus for RealDash and for networking, these units seem to have some issues with their USB implementation in that the HDMI input picture is not stable and the USB bus sometimes loses connection after a long period.
This would not be an issue in it's normal intended use, but I'm asking quite a lot of it. By contrast my older PX5 unit while a bit slow from time to time, is more stable with these requirements.
Basically, if you do not need USB OTG then no issue and will look fantastic in the hatch.

Yes, it's out of focus here but it's a standard ISO harness connector, so should plug straight to your car, only other connection would be radio aerial. So a lot of those other wires you see would not be needed. Loads of storage for music on board.
One thing i forgot is that i slighly modified the bit where the air vents go in order to fit my Toucan in there (by removing a couple of plastic tabs, this will have no detrimental effect though. Will PM you.
