Default 2015 Steering Rack

Over on IWSTI there is a massive thread about swapping 2008 GR rack for the 2015 rack with apparently very positive results.

Has anyone on here done it?

Which parts were used and how did you feel about the mod?

i often wondering would it effect the VDC as its based upon the steering angle sensor (amongst other things) and its settings would all be based on the OE rack rather than the 2015 rack which has a smaller number of turns lock to lock

Plain cover is around 15 iirc as i bought both sides during summer there.

Fog lamp kit will be on back order and take a few weeks to get into a dealers.

Tyre wear ? Which wears quicker , front or bacK ?

Have a new set of wheels with one pair of tyres with slightly more wear than the other and want to put them on the other end .

I'd say front wears more as they accellerate, brake and steer.
More so if geometry is out.

Suggestions for best battery for hatch? Think it's failing...

Couple of times in last month wouldn't start when parked a few hours - dials moved but press start button, either just electronical noise or clicking noise.
Fans seemed slow too, so guessing battery on way out. Starts on booster pack and seems fine after an overnight charge.
It is a basic Varta and 7 years old.

Or ( gulp ) the Alternator?

USe - Commute driving with air con, lights, radio on. So normal load?

Thoughts?

OK.
Seen good reports of a Yuasa YBX5005 battery so got one for £76 , will fit over weekend.
Decided to get a Ctek battery conditioner / trickle charger to keep on top of it.

Will ned to keep an eye on alternator / get it tested, but they are expensive as canbus so hope its OK.

Fan belt did wear / get very thin! so had thought it was just that, but it's done it a couple of times since I replaced the belt last month.

Cheers

I wouldn't go reading into things, An alternator failure would trigger a DTC or battery light.

Change the battery, those Varta batteries are rather crap.

My battery failed at 5 years old and swapped it out with a Bosch S4 with a 3 year warranty

I've got a full set of 15mm h&r spacers that I've never used cause I changed wheels in the end. From what I've read the studs need cut down if your wheels don't have pockets in the back of them.

Pm if interested

Got my 330s mapped yesterday and now have a few toys to play with !
Whats the best way to "launch" without breaking things ? Won't be doing it loads but want to at least give it a go.
Traction control off , but what diff settings etc. to loosen everthing up for a bit of mechanical sympathy?

Haven't had much time to play yet , but flat foot Shifting is my favourite new thing ! Pops a good bit but the back box dulls them a fair bit. More like thuds than pops.

All good fun. Coilovers going on Tuesday

Going to see how it sits when I get it back but might get spacers so will need to play about with heights .

will do. I've read some people are going 20mm front 15mm rear, will that cause any issues?

Full Power map, diff left in AUTO Press and hold the VDC button for a couple of seconds to disable the traction control etc.
Clutch in 1st gear on a flat surface, Build the revs for a couple of seconds to get some boost and just slip your foot off the clutch. All I did with mine when I had it, It used to set off sideways with lots of smoke off the tyres, Then flatfoot shift up the box. Makes for pretty rapid progress
