Yep... back in the day H&S were the daddies in performance exhausts, and there were many other firms trying to match their products. I personally have had H&S decat and sportscat down pipes previously FWIW. I guess what I was trying to say was that some of the competitors have caught up and make equally good products now too...

My point in making more power with a sportscat rather than decat was a positive comment on how well a 200 cell cat can flow. AND... I have read on SN of some of the 100 cell cats that struggle with emissions at MOT time.

To the OP - get what you want to complete your system - be it all H&S or whatever. I was just offering an option.

Andy F is a Lord in Subaru tuning so we wouldn't want to disagree with him.

Another interesting point is that when my car was first built it ran 365/365 with the H&S decat d/p and 2 1/2 " system. An identical car (barring my flowed heads) with H&S full fat 3" decat ran 355/355.

Am I comparing apples and oranges ? No. Point being maybe a 2 1/2"
system isn't restrictive at this level of power (or some say into 400+).

Its all smiles ...

was changing my side lights today and had the air box out and noticed a tube on the bottom that was sealed, on scottish scoobies some one has a HKS intake funnel fitted to this tube on their STI what i want to know is can i open this tube up on my WRXS with no ill effects or would i need a remap? I would rather take a cold air feed from my lower grill than fit the funnel but i thought i would ask first

The part I'm mostly getting at is That I was told the self same thing about the H&S 2.5" flowing better than the 3" counterpart due to the bends on the exhaust restricting flow.

Mine quite happily runs a 2.5 Inch system from H&S one of the very first ever made & has never been an issue with restriction's running the power level it does. Dyno'd at 420bhp/450 ft/lbs. the only time it will be getting changed to a 3" system is when the new engine goes in with it's rotated turbo setup

I just had the Subie a fresh service made and (unfortunately) the winter tyres installed. Ugly 17"

From these (18" 9" ET35)...

To these "studded" (17" 8" ET53)...

Looking forward to the Swedish winter ALOT now!

Also I had the intake silencer removed and a HKS panel filter installed. Makes the car goes swooosh and pyyysh when shifting gears No gain in HP though...

550-600bhp but realistically most likely with my turbo choice 650+ I keep changing the boundarys. I'm changing the valve train in the engine to open up the revs too which will help. 6500rpm is **** bring on 8500-9000rpm.

My advice to anyone doing a home build is measure everything twice and you wont go wrong & dont be ashamed to ask for advice.

when you removed the intake silencer and fitted the panel filter did you have to make any other mods to the airbox or was it a straight forward operation?

I like revs, what valvetrain are you going for to get those revs, and will the breathing cope - head work, cams etc.??

Sounds like a billet garret 35 going on?
?

Supertech Inconnel valves, Open the throat up on the heads a touch. Supertech valve springs & retainers. Crower stage 3 280/280 cams were my initial heartset but after a chat with Andy f it may well be a change to cosworth 278/274 cams.

I was looking intially at the gt30 for day to day drivability but to be honest I want the biggest as I'll always have that doubt set (what would it have been like to get the 35) so the rcm Rotated gt35 will suffice. oh & a syvecs 6gp
Winter project as I don't wanna go mad all at once as I have other jobs to do on the car too
