Ok, that makes sense, as you say the nuts are quite large which confused me a little, I hope I have said recesses in the back of 330s rims!

Well the nuts are too deep or the alloy recesses are not deep enough.

Chris's supplier doesn't do shallower nuts to the correct strength so

I've just ordered some M12 1.25 pitch (60 deg coned), shallow spacer nuts from driftworks.

£32 delivered for 25

The other ones I have seen DO seem to to screw to hub in the recess in the spacer and be below surface of the spacer. Otherwise would be a custom design for each wheel type.

I'll ask my mate who has just fitted some to his classic how they go.
His were from E P Racing.

Something like this, you can clearly see how deep the pockets for the nuts are (the nuts also look very similar to the shallow ones Scooby L bought from Driftworks). When fitted, the nuts are below the wheel mating face so no need for recesses on the back of the wheel. Pic is of 20mm spacers btw.

Gives the car the stance of ET+35 alloys without the cost of replacing/upgrading the alloys.

Interesting pic, my spacers have the coned countersinks, but not the additional vertical recess before the countersink..... will see how the new "shallow" nuts sit (I have recesses behind the BBS alloys so they do not "need" to be flush).

Spacers will affect handling and steering feel as it is equivalent to using a stupidly low offset!
e.g. http://www.1010tires.com/wheeloffsetCalculator.asp
Old wheels: 8 inch ET53
New wheels: 8 inch ET32
So a 20mm spacer is equivalent to fitting wheels with 32 offset.
The steering will have a dead feel IMHO, don't do it!

Besides wheel bearings will be more stressed.

I'm not a fan of spacers or low offset wheels as well for the reasons stated above, unless the suspension geometry is revised to suit set up.

Would you need the geo redone if you just change the offset, do the wheels not just sit further apart?

Only ask as I had mine recently done and cannot be arsed to get it done again if I go and change my current offset with new rims or spacers, cannot see why you would nee dit done if just the offset is changing?

I'd hope the machine quality of the spacer would not effect the tracking, but you are changing the geometric shape of the suspension etc, by extending the track out.... it may have an effect..I'm no expert though.

I'm having it done because he'll be fitting the prodrive springs too.

PS, Just bagged a 2nd hand clear fog light lens and red bulb off ebay for £35

Thats the thing I had my geo done a few months ago when my pd springs went on.

The clear fog will tidy the rear up nicely.

Default Offset

If any of you guys have anything other than a 55 offset rim can you please post up some side on pics so I can see where they sit in relation to the arch.

My current rims are 55 and I have been advised that a 30 will give arch issues so have been looking at 35's, however I've been told with lowering springs these could also cause arch issues so am now thinking maybe somewhere inbetween, just been told a 48 sits nice but the rims I like only come in a 35 or 55.

Cheers
Abz

I've been told 35 is fine, it's 30 when things get tight

i have 35 of set, with prodrive spings

all fine, the tyre is about 15mm gap from the arch at the front, when you go full lock there about 3-4mm gap in the inner arch

Chris at CDF is going to increase the depth of the recesses, the shallow nuts are still too tall with the current countersink depths.

Working developments! LOL

I need a bit of help here guys!

Trying to fit a Forge recirc dump valve tonight, started off very easily BUT could I remove the 2 cross head screws that hold the std ally return pipe to the body of the std dump valve.. NO!

Any one else done this - what size / type of screwdriver is needed ( posidrive or philips, and what size ? ) and any tips to get the screws moving?
Wary of rounding the screw heads!!

Cheers

Here's the geo settings that came with my Prodrive spring kit:

Minimum / Preferred / Maximum

Front camber: -0*50' / -0*55' / -1*00'
(for very aggresive use take this to max on adjustment approx -1*30')

Front toe-in (total): 0*08' / 0*10' / 0*12'

Front caster: 6*25' (Referential value)

Rear camber: -1*35' (Referential value)

Rear toe-in (total): 0*16' / 0*20' / 0*22'

Thrust angle: -0*01' / 0*00' / 0*01'

Hope that helps,

Neil
