NS04 - I can understand the need for an adult section to post more riskier items that may not be to everyones taste, but the section has already slipped into nothing more than giving links to external **** sites (isn't this against the section rules anyway ).
Adult themes to my mind also encompass other areas of life other than sex.

Also, what's the need for an SN redirect prefix to the links - its not needed on other sections?

Why not a hidden password protected area like many other sites use? That way folk who want to use it can and those who don't, won't even know it's there.

So you think a section devoted to posting links to hardcore pornography is
appropriate on a car forum do you?

As to the reference to homosexual men, and out of control children, grow up FFS.

TBF, SN is, and has been for a hell of a long time, alot more than just a car forum, and people need to realise that before they start using it to defend their own opinions on the matter.

I'm sorry I find the whole notion of it has NOTHING to do with money a load of nonsense. There are other ways to create a closed adult forum without making people pay.

Typical SN, why not just put your hands up and say that it is a business and yes it was considered that there was a possiblility this would boost revenue in people joining.

I'm not having a go at mods here, it feels like IB sell you a story and you fall for it.

@ Scoobychick - Its all very well having that motto but don't you think you/IB/stu/other mods kind of bring this on yourself. I find logic is the best way to deal with things. If there have been a lot of requests for an adult forum why not post a poll so the SN following can have their say. Rather than listed to those that want one and when you do it then winge about others who say they dont like it.

Democracy is a wonderful thing, perhaps its time for SN to embrace that.

Yes it does and as I've repeatedly said: IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT GROT!!

People can post other topics more suited to an adult audience in there as well! We even let you say rude words such as **** ******** **** and ****

It's very early says yet mate, give the content a bit of time! The "real" WAG thread should get interesting and amount to much more than people just posting links To get people to participate however, we need a friendly, troll free environment where everyone gets on (or at least behaves) and that's what we're working on cultivating in the adult room, just as we have with the open access forums.

Links are permitted in respect of videos, as SN has small upload limits.

Not sure about the re-direct thing, can look into it though!

I don't have a problem with it at all. I'm quite a nosey git, and am interested to see SN users WAG's with their kit off.

If it's not available to kids that come across this site then what's the problem? In fact it isn't available to anyone who's just ended up on this site through google etc.

I think it is perfectly acceptable, you can't even go into that part of the forum can you? why does it even bother you at all? Are you just moaning for the sake of it? Why do you think it is unacceptable? Why can a car forum not have other forum sections, like Computer, DIY etc? Is it not more about a community?

Its how I am reading it, someone was moaning that there kids might go in there etc the most stupid thing I have ever read.

I thought it was the one the most amusing comments of the day

I've been looking forward to this for a while although I do feel that it should not be on the main page. If it can be made selectable or password protected that would stop the prudes getting all daily mail on us pervs.

I think it should be pay only for obvious reasons and I'd be surprised if anyone actually spent whatever it costs these days to see pics you can see for free if you turn off google safe-search.

It will be a bit manic at first but should settle down. The links are very handy and could do with being made into a sticky. As long as everyone plays fair and doesn't take the pi55 out if then I don't see why we can't have it.

Perversely, I don't like reading alot of swearing. Pics/vids with anything other than kids, animals and poop I'm all for but needless swearing lowers the tone IMO.

Please explain how this bothers you in the slightest? Can/have you even been in that part of the forum?

I don't think you have, have you.

BTW - I dislike entirely the thought of an adult section. This is a car form ffs.

Sorry mate, but you're way off with this one: here's why.

We've had calls for a long time now to have an adults room on SN, not necessarily just for grot, but for other topics not suited for minors too. Some people feel that the T&Cs "tie their hands" too much with what they can and can't do and say.

Many of the webteam have also been pushing for this idea for a while now and believe me, we get NOTHING of the revenue that SN generates. Not a red cent!

I'm sorry, but people are NOT going to pay up for membership JUST to get access to the odd bit of grot in a restricted section of a car forum when they can get tons of the stuff from other sites. Call it a bonus feature of membership if you will, but it's not going to be the deciding factor in anyone's mind.

Anyway: lets assume you are right and there are other ways to control acces to ensure minors don't see material that should be viewed by 18+.

-That still does nothing to keep spammers/malicious content posters out
-It does nothing to ensure that we can find anyone who posts anything nasty! IP tracking is simply not good enough!
-And does nothing to keep the trolls out.

The only sure fire way of taking care of the above is to make people know that they ARE accountable, ARE NOT anomyous, and that have an investment in behaving properly, which will be removed if they don't

Best,

Ns04

My 2p's worth is that Stu caved to the pressure from those moaning that there wasn't an adults only section and that their threads were being, rightly, deleted from NSR.

From a technical viewpoint, it's an easy thing to do, to setup a new section on SN, so it could have been done a very long time ago, if it was warranted and needed.

I'm neutral about it's existence, it's there if I want to go and have a look (which I have done), and if I don't want to look again, I shan't, and I'm sure others are capable of doing this as well.

There is an issue in regards to others who use your browser when you're logged into SN, they can, providing you have access of course, see and enter the Adults Only section. Not good if you have kids using the machine. Password protection for the section is possible, but it'll be stored until you logout of SN, and who remembers to logout every time?

I've suggested elsewhere that perhaps the section could be hidden from the forum listing (an option exists to do just that in the admin side of things) and if people want access then they can be supplied with the direct URL for the section. There could be a sticky thread in general where you can request the URL, and it'll be PM'd to you. Word of mouth will probably get it distributed around to those who want it as well.

Please can you let me know how this is going to work:

The reason it's paying only members are:

a) To keep the access restricted to adults
When these payment methods don't have an age restriction:
- Pay-pal (not sure if available)
- Solo
- Switch
- BACS

@Mods

now that my computer in work has been upgraded and attached to a new network infrastructure, the content of website is monitored closer than ever. things like ebay, youtube, sports sites etc etc have all been filtered and no access given. as has been stated before when i log on to scoobynet i am now confronted with member pictures that are NOT car related and are now held in the cache. i cannot clear the cache due to policy restrictions in force but just wondering if some people's scantily clad WAGs will have me collecting my P45 at then end of the week.

But everyone knows that the only people who buy Scoobies are either gay or the tiny majority of men on here who are straight (and obviously virgins who are scared of women) have tiny todgers.

I'm proud to say I've never owned a Scooby.

I'm a bit dubious about the use or existance of a WAGs thread, unless it's all the butch lesbian members posting pics of their WAGs.

You missed my point. I'm quite aware that you are not paid for your work. I even state that I'm not having a dig at mods. I appreciate the work you put in to help run this forum, its not a job I would want. However there are mods that are a little power hungry (not you) and give the rest of you a bad name.

I understand your point regarding being a paid up member to access and thats fine, you won't admit this but in the last few years the non paying member has had their access to the forum or specifically new boards limited. I don't have a problem with this just be honest and say, this is a buisness and yes we need to make money/profit so we are going to charge. The constant denial that nothing on this site is ever done because of money/profit is nonsense.

I have to be honest I don't like Scoobychick's comments re the "mods
motto". I can actually understand though why you feel like this but I question if you bring this on yourselves sometimes. You may well have had lots of requests for an adult forum and been looking at for a while. I'm fairly non plus towards it (see I edited my original post as I intially stated I didn't like the idea and that was wrong as chop likes a bit of **** ).

My point is that if this place is a community and if you do listen to requests don't implement something that has been requested by x% and then winge when y% complain that you have introduced it. I hope you can see this point becuase it does have some merit, if this pllace is a "community" then you have to listen to all parts of it.

If you/IB wanted to guage a "community view" of an adult forum why not make your own lives easier by posting a poll outlining the proposal and see what feedback that gives. I'm not even saying you should have to follow the results but at least you would understand before implementing what the general "community" view was. If you implement something and people don't like it you should know by now people here will have no problem in letting you know.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm NOT having a dig at you or mods in general. I'm just trying to pass some feedback on how IMO the introduction of an adult forum has been poorly handled.

All the best,

Chop

If I now want to post up something that is possably NSFW, I can't because I'm not a paid member as I don't have access or if I do I won't be able to contribute when it gets moved. Scoobynet has managed for the last 10 or so year with out an 'Adult' section, surly it's the mod's job to make sure the contence is acceptable or not?

What? you are passing feedback on something that does not concern you in the slightest but do so in regards to a subforum that you can not access or view but consider the implement of such a forum "poorly handled"

Do you work for the Council?

Are you still here? I have very little to say to a pleb like you but no I don't work for the council. I run a business, a successful one at that. One of the reasons its sucessful is we listen and engage our target market before making decisions.

So can those that haven't got the blue or orange membership see there is an adult section?
