I don't agree with it, but... It seems true in how the media portray the force and it's no wonder some of the public feel the way they do towards these so called keepers of peace.

You can't use blue and twos to chase after someone using a mobile phone, and you can't just spin a patrol car around in the middle of the road whether you are blues or not. And won't a camera have a deterrant affect..?

I know the overall solution is more police, but it isn't going to happen for the forseable future.

The bottom line is, don't committ ofences whilst you drive or accept the fact you take a chance when you do.

I just get the feeling that this thread is "... I want to be able to drive whilst using a mobile phone and its wrong these cameras are out to catch me doing so.."

Well as the OP of the thread I can assure you that is not my intention for the the thread.

My complaint as I said is about the disproportionate amount of effort given over to motoring offence detection compared to that of other offences.

A perfect illustration of this was actually in NSR at the time with CDF Racing's thread about credit card fraud.

Felix let me reiterate I have no grudge against the police officers on the ground, in fact I don;t envy you at all, but I do have a huge problem with the policing policy for the UK and that of course comes back to our wonderful target based revenue chasing government.

I think its nail on the head time, The front line officers in this country do a fantastic job, When things happen that most people run away from, they run towards it.
A handful let the side down, A lot of negative press that is misdirected lets the police down and like you said, The policy makers let the pretty much the whole country down.
Someone posted in another thread, or maybe this one "All coppers are w*nkers". That is the kind of attitude that makes the task of policing harder.

I know a lot of police officers on a very personal level and the things they do and see on a daily basis would crush most people.
They deal with up to 10 spontaneous incidents per shift, never knowing if its going to be words of advice of a dead body when they arrive.

We have a problem in this country with revenue grabbing policy makers and the negative press given to front line officers. Calculate how many spontaneous jobs are dealt with per day and how many mistakes are made and you will see just how professional the police are.

If we dont like it we need to vote in something we do like, If there is nothing we do like then we need to start something we think will work and guide it into power.
Its easy to complain.

I can't see how its disproportionate - it’s only a couple of cameras with a handful of people (civilian) who sort out the paperwork. Compare that to the number of police on response teams, CID, burglary squad, drug squad etc etc

I'm not saying it’s a perfect system, and a lot of things we do in the police can be changed for the better. And a lot of things a brought in by people who have never worked on the front line for years.

I may be synical, but I still think that if you do don't anything silly when you drive, you will have nothing to worry about.

Well it sure feels disproportionate. Yes this is only a couple of cameras, but the truth is it's a couple more cameras on top of the red light cameras, the speed cmaeras, the mobile motorwayunits, the civilian manned camera vans, ANPR, SPECS etc. etc.

Yet crime like that in the aforementioned credit card fraud thread goes undetected even when there is a red hot lead .

Felix I truly am not having a pop at the police, but I sure do feel that the policy makers see the motorist as easy money. Not saying we should be allowed to speed or speak on the phone whilst driving etc., I just want other crimes given the same sort of prevnetion and detection priority as motoring offences.
