hi just back from the first track day today sunday the 19th at knockhill.i couldnt of picked a better day the best weather yet!!!! unfortunately the car got out of shape really easily upon closer inspection it had 175/65 on 14" wheels and were economey tyres doh!!!!!!! i could tell the chassis was good but tyres were giving up way too easy.tyres should of been 185/60 14".
so handling isnt as good as it should be and iam lacking in power damn.
i think a change to 15's and toyo 888r's are in order. now where was that supercharger i was looking at lol

888s will give you too much grip- they won't allow the chassis to shine through, and they cost a fortune.

The Max5 race series run on Toyo T1r 195 15s, think they're 50 profile; about 30 quid a corner, new, off ebay.

The forced induction thing is tempting, but I don't think I've ever seen a properly drived turbocharged or supercharged MX5 finish a trackday. They're fast and fun, but it doesn't usually last long. The beauty of the MX5 is its reliability- think twice before you compromise that.

cool thanks for that cant remember if you said you compete in the max 5 series?
32 psi when hot that will explain why i seen people keep altering their pressures after theyve been on.i thought the toyo 888 would be ideal?no? iseen a few kit cars with them.
any other advice for track days?so how can i make it competitive if not forced induction as everything was leaving me lol.
i just felt the car was way too slow closest rival was a stripped out tigra i dont know what engine was in the tigra but its not very good eh?
also really worried about the car flipping over as i seen a few cars there with crumpled roofs and there are gravel traps everywhere would a hard top sort this problem or better with roll hoops what ones?
cheers for your help so far.

They don't have much grunt, so you need to carry speed through the corners. An MX5 will teach you to drive properly. Not sure where you're based, but will happily take you out and show you how good they are- and how they'll out-corner most stuff on track- whilst costing substantially less to run

Ditch the a/c, if it has it. Fit an induction kit, k&n or similar, and a decat pipe. The standard exhaust and manifold flow pretty well, so spending money there is a waste of time, as are bigger brakes- just fit mintex 1144 pads with the standard disks.

the cheapest mod on the mx5 is having the timing advanced to 14 degrees- this does make quite a bit of difference.
