Browsing the web on BB's is nice to do I have to say. There are a number of browsers to choose from, and keypad shortcuts to help navigate the page. Different layout options too, and levels of zoom.

I have an old 8320 which is actually one of the smaller handsets Which I actually like a lot. Downsides are tiny onboard memory and dated appearance.

Have a look on CrackBerry.com ? The #1 Site for BlackBerry Users & Abusers for up and coming handsets, reviews and other stuff you might wanna know. Some great apps available for them

This is the current range....

Well here is a question from me to those BB experts out there..

Currently I have a Pearl, and am due an upgrade next month. I want to stay with a BB. Choice is the Bold, or the Curve. Now, I'm swaying towards the Curve (smaller, better camera). Is there any reason to have the Bold over the Curve, other than the fact it has a bigger screen?

For starters either handset is a big improvement on a Pearl.
But such a question opens a can of worms lol.

I dont think the build of the 8900 is THAT bad, but do agree its a little loose.
It certainly is a tough decision but basics are

8900 smaller, lighter, better camera, slightly cheap feel and no 3G
Bold bigger, better build, 3G

Long and short of it...
Compare phones - GSMArena.com

Does not really matter what network they are on, its the BIS thats the important service to have available.
The email PUSH, and the data via the BIS all needs to be active. So if you buy one thats not new, beware of that.
Also as they run on PIN numbers for communicating you can find yourself receiving messages etc that are for the old owner. Its not just reliant on the SIM.

In short yes they can work fine on other networks as long as the other service provider will sort out the BIS.

Nope. Pointless having a BB without BIS imo.
It "may" allow you to use the net, but im not sure how well. But it wont allow PIN messaging, email PUSH etc.

Personally I would say its far easier just to go and get a new one on a BB tariff rather than getting a s/h one and bodging it

Unlike yourself, I only like touchcreen phones so I have bought a storm. Considering they are only on Voda I have no choice but to try a used one

It would be wrong for me to make an honest judgement on a Storm as I just dont like touch phones, but as you say, you do.
To me it just loses the whole purpose of what it is by being touch screen, but tens of thousands have a different opinion.

My worry with your position is that there may be some things required from your network by your phone that it cannot provide a touch screen as they are not made for that network, although that is unlikely, its possible.

Good luck to you with your trial. A friend has a Storm as says he is used to it now, and likes it, however on upgrade he feels he will get one with a keypad.

Best bet getting it set up is to call up your network and discuss them providing a BIS tariff, but without the phone, OR, it might be worth while getting a BB BIS tariff WITH the phone and just selling the handset on

Either way, im very curious to know how you get on so let me/us know.
You might find some good answers on Crackberry too

lol@ Neil's pics....... on a bad day I would say the exact same

Fair play, just be ready for the change in tariff price when the BIS is added.
Usual tariff price is about 30ish quid a month.
Give them a call and see where you go from there.

Personally, now I have a BB, I would not wanna be without one. Its too useful.

Well, I've just had a chat with the nice chap @ Vodafone. It's going to involve a change in price plan (almost double what I'm on now - I'm a low user) + commitment to a 24 month contract if I want the phone for free. Or £100 for phone, higher monthly bill for a lower term.

I've REALLY got to assess if I would use the Berry..... I'm thinking possibly not.....
Wifey will really benefit from a Berry, so that's probably ok. I have all the comms options via home and work (access 24/7), so the it would possibly be an "expensive" (in comparison) gadget.
Not that may options out there tbh....

Might look at a used iphone - unlock it for Voda.....

Just thought you might want to know (if not, then sorry for wasting your time!!LOL!! )

lol fair play Dan
What sort of tariff are they asking you to go on? And how much. Does it have to be a Storm too?

I dont think the advantage of a berry is at home or work, more inbetween and on the go. That said I have spent the whole morning on the berry cos I could not be bothered turning the TV over or booting this PC up lol

If you but an iPhone on Voda, what are you gonna use for data? You could do the same really with a Storm surely. Orange offer BIS for £11 a month at the mo, thats with no voice. Add it to a £15 voice/text tariff and its still a cheap option.

Examples of other options available on BB's at the mo.

8900 on T-mob 200 mins/texts £19.57pm
8900 on Orange 600 mins/500 texts £35pm

Well, like I said, I'm a low (price) user. I pay £15 per month for 23hours of talktime (using Stop the Clock) & 100 texts. The contract can't be beaten for the price imho

They want me to go up to £35/month (and still pay for a handset).....not worth it imho.

The option of iphone over Storm is wi-fi.....

You (all) might say that £35 is still cheap for a phone (not when you're used to £15 bills!!)

perhaps I'll look at a used Berry and take it from there. Problem is I've had a good deal for too long.......

See what they can do if you have been with them a while.
I pay £16 a month for my berry, berry was free, unlimited data and something like 200 mins/texts a month.

Look around the net and see what other deals there are then go back to Voda with them.
Personally if it was pay for the Storm or get an 8900 free, I would stick with a keyboard lol and get the 8900

If its an old tariff, course it cant be beaten, but there are some great deals out there with other providers.

Quick example...

8900 on Orange Dolphin 30, 400 mins/unlimited texts, unlimited data, free BB £29 a month

Oh and if you have Orange Broadband, using the UMA on the BB you can use it to make loads of free calls on at home too

Serious though, at the end of the day if you are not sure you would use ANY device, I would not put the money on the line for it.

Do you check or need to check email on the go? Need to get online much away from home (travelling, working etc)
Do you want to carry one device for music, phone, email, text, diary etc, and would you use it?

I have found having email/web on the move really helpful over recent months. Staying in touch with work, solicitor and medical stuff.
Spending time on trains buses and lots of walking its nice to have the web and chat clients on hand to pass the time.
