Regarding all the excitment of getting 380-400 from breathing mods and a remap are people ignoring the comments regarding the standard pistons being at risk above 350bhp?

What meets are you going to mate, I go to the SurreyScoobies meet when I can make it (on the 2nd Sunday of each month at the Fairmille Arms, Cobham) and some don't like it & some do (and others are growing to like it), but they are all friendly, after all it's almost the same car as all the other models when it comes to tuning/mods n all that

My thoughts exactly (I'm staying under 350 on the std cast pistons), but different people have different opinions on this and say 400 is fine...

Standard car with 300 bhp can do it in 4.8 (officially timed by various mags in the States & here in the UK). A 400bhp 2008 STI has been timed at 3.7 0-60 mate, honest, no bull...not that any of this matters, they are only pub figures, if you know what i mean, it's the midrange (40 -100) that counts in the real world

Default MY08

I’ve been posting on here about the MY08 STi for just over a year and nothings changed. Still got the posters with the negative vibes, that don’t believe independent facts and figures, or any observation with a hint of positivity. They seem to think everyone who has a MY08 STi is defending it when in fact they are praising it. ‘Defenders’ of the car are even accused of having a hidden agenda! what the **** is that all about? You’d think that after a year it would at least be live and let live. Alas, debating is more challenging than flinging insults.

But what do you expect John? this is an 'enthusiasts' site, with people on here who have had/driven a fair few generations of Impreza ...& they see the '08 as a step in the wrong direction for them. After all, to them, it doesn't look like an Impreza, it doesn't sound like an Impreza & it doesn't 'drive' like an Impreza (& yes I've driven one)

Interesting post Daz

It dosn't look like an Impreza
Can you tell me what an Impreza looks like? I was under the impression it's already changed 4 times.

It doesn't sound like an Impreza
Well I'm assuming you're talking about equal length headers...so are the newage JDM's not real imprezas?

It doesn't drive like an Impreza
I've owned a 2003 STI (and now a 2008)... and I disagee mate... it does.

At the end of the day everything has to evolve to keep up with the times Subaru have done this with the new sti and they have got more sales than previous styles etc. Its simple if they want to stay in business they have to keep the market happy, even with a diesel model !!!

4? ...I count 3 model shapes 92,01 & 08 or do you mean facelifts?

Either way, an Impreza to *most* people is simply a Japanese 4 dr saloon (butt out wagon owners )

Biggest gripe on here iirc was the loss of the 'burble'?

In what way? ...I've never driven an Impreza with that amount of body roll before ('96 STi, 00 UK 2000, P1 & 06 STi)

carefull mate, you'll have the wagon boys on your back too at this rate..

Simple exhaust/header mod... job done... (mine will be happening pre re-map )

It's funny I've never noticed exesive body roll, but the characteristics of the Subaru awd and power delivery make all Impreza's "feel" the same.... in fact the 2008 keeps it's nose tucked in on corners/roundabouts far better than any other previuos Impreza I've owned... the grin factor is x10

Interesting thread as always on this topic.

Picking my new 08 STI up on April 1st. Same spec and colour as this one

I currently drive this and had 4 happy years motoring with it Only let me down once with a flat battery.

Had a great test drive in the 08 STI. Far more space in inside than the out going model. I'm six one and my wife still had leg room in the back behind me. Felt like you sit a lot lower than normal too in the half leather Recaro's

Steering was balanced and still felt weighted at higher speeds as were I find my WRX a bit light and disconnected. Probably due to its age.

Seemed to have loads of torque, and pulled well in all gears. Found the fly by wire accelerator took a bit of getting use to. As there was a delay between moving your foot and the engine reving. However this disappeared in the sport modes

The Handing was firm and balanced until it was pushed. Could benefit from up-rated springs

I said when they 1st came out I'd never buy one, But here I am counting down the days (14days 21 hours)

Oh and I'll still wave and be at NBO 09

Yep, it's gotta burble to be a "real" Impreza for me. I heard a twin scroll and equal length header conversion the last time at APi and it just sounded plain and uninspiring. As well as I'm sure this set up works, I don't want it! The burble is an essential part of the Scoobies character and appeal for me, personally.

I wasn't aware the UK models now had equal length headers though?!?! Are you sure the exhaust isn't just a bit tame as std? Even the old classics suffered from that!

I was once told by the head Subaru's UK customer relations that we would NOT be loosing the burble to equal length headers in the UK! They recognised it as an integral part of the car's appeal over here.

For an 'enthusiasts site' why are people derided for being enthusiastic about progress? And 'what I expect' of a specialist forum, is common courtesy among fellow owners of a particular product. Why do so many people feel the need to whinge about what someone else likes. At the end of the day we are all Subaru fans and/or owners (the very concept of this site) – and they should be something to enjoy in every which way, shape, model, colour, speed or incarnation you like.

Dad's 08 STi sounded a bit tame before he fitted the Milltek exhaust, now it sounds like a Scoob, it's not loud but instantly recognisable

No matter how many pics I see of it, the new hatch shape doesn't do it for me.

Its horses for courses I know but I am never going to aspire to want one of those. I only see a handful of these on the road

It isn't about the drive on this one, its how it looks and what it says about the driver/owner and it looks worse than the bugeye (and thats saying something!!!)

Loved the Classic, didnt mind the blobeye and quite liked the hawk eye before anyone starts

When my P1 went in for a service I went and Sat in a new STI and I can honestly say the only thing I liked about the inside was the new car smell.

I don't doubt for one minute that the car has come a long way Since the days of the classic and it probably is very nice to be in and drive.

I think If I had the money to buy one and then mod it I would, as std they just look wrong and look like they should be half the price they are (book, cover... judging.... you know the one) But it has to be said, that white STI in that has been posted in this thread is stunning.

Default what a load of bull

think back to the days of the classic then came the BUGEYE ,**** sake whit an uproar then ,it came in for some peltors people said it was the ugliest car they had ever seen. Subaru rushed in with a facelift Blobeye .Some punters liked them some didnt
my first newage, wrx 300 with some mods

good cars , handling a bit suspect brakes poor . but you got to love them
then hawkeye ,my sti still not perfect .again some bad comments about looks

i personally loved it for all its faults.the newage had 3 face lifts in its time basically the same car with minor adjustments bodywork suspension engine size to name a few .now the bugeye with headlamp conversion and the right body mods look great
subaru cars are not the greatest in the motoring world but we modify them to the hilt and get a kick out of doing so .
lets stop bickering about them and start loving what we have .
the hatch is a good car out of the box ,it can be a great car with mods
300ps dont hang around you know. i have had many compliments on my gird from old guys to kids never any adverse comments, some not sure but growing on them
took my son out the other night in my car,he drives a sti type r import

he was most impressed with the performance and said its the £400 road tax that puts him off getting one
i love my hatch and have started mods ,ie 22mm front and rear anti roll bars
to fix the roll stiffness problem .next anti lift kit and springs ,top mounts etc
anybody heard of these problems on scoobies before ,i think we all have . all the cars suffer from the same basic problems, bump and rebound ,the dreaded undeersteer, poor roll stiffness ,bump steer ,transmission thump when gear changing fast upshift and downshift
poor geo settings from the factory.
so to sum up the classic to the new hatch has the same inherant problems
that have never been addressed from day one

sorry for the rant but i am pi55ed off being told on here that they are p**h
cheers geo

With you all the way there cusco kid

Come one lads...it just needs mods to drive and look right, errrr like all the Impreza's I've owned...my standard Bugeye WRX drove like a shed untill I spent £5K on engine, suspension & brakes mods & wheels & tyres

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3082/...aab9d358_b.jpg

Sorry, ignore that, they are crap, they look, drive and sound like a Kia deisel and are not much faster, and it has clown car handling, infact it's dangerous in the wet, don't ever buy one...because I like having a decent and rare car
