I'd maybe consider one on a couple of years time once depreciation has hit it but I don't want one enough to buy one new.

I don't think folk would like it all of a sudden if it were branded as something else RE: Escort-Focus but I think in a lot of peoples eyes, it has solied a bit of the "Impreza Legacy"
Impreza has always been a saloon therefore I think that if they were going to do a hatch they should have just ended the Impreza name and went with a new branding.

It ain't bonnie but it's growing on me for it's abilities, think the hate towards it is more phsycological due to "ruining" the Impreza recipe......

It's still a move from saloon to hatch. I've got pics from the dealers before I picked up my 08 with it parked next to a Hawk and they look similar at the front, it's just the back which they have struggled to finish.

I see one everyday and there is another in the car park at work. I've seen a few on the roads and thats considering they've only been out for 12 months in the current recession.

Just out of interest Simon,

What is the going rate for the ecutek remap on the 2008 STI?

And with an MOT friendly H & S system (ie center pipe, decat the 2nd cat pipe & new quad backbox, no decat downpipe) what would the power/torque figures most likely be?

Cheers

Kyle

I hear they do a saloon version of the new shape in the US&A - is that so?

Read somewhere on a website that Subaru are already in talks of a facelift for the hatchback, due to a big slump in sales!!!!

Yeah but it is butt ugly! Lol.

TBH hatch ain't a total munter- I would actually like to get one and tone it down visually but tune it up performance wise so that it had the stealth and surprise of Impreza's when they first came over here :-D

Havent seen any at the Impreza meets ive been to this year, and a big meet we had a few weeks ago with around 150 impreza's!!!

To be honest I would have a hatchback impreza if funds allowed, I quite like the idea of near 400bhp 400lb/ft with just a decat, filter and a re-map, this is what Mitsubishi Evo's have been doing for years, when stage 1(filter, decat, remap) gets you 400bhp, Now Scoobys can be tuned to 400bhp with just simple stage 1 mods. Its got to be the most tunable Impreza to date, but obviously the styling is what some people have an issue about, which is a shame really as Subaru have got a car thats probably better or as good as the Evo now.

That's probably because we are made to feel like leppers on here.....

So why involve ourselves in the Subaru community in the real world.....?

I bought my 2008 STI because it was the best £/bhp 5 door option from a marque that I trusted... and if that means I don't go on Subaru meets anymore..then so be it..a small sacrefice..

I dont think thats the case mate!!!!

Its more that there is a credit crunch going on at the moment and not many people can afford new cars.

Dude, don't feel like a lepper, feel like a KING, baby. You have a fantastic car and I would live one. And I don't have some busted-*** classic, mine is a fine 06 Hawkeye dynoed to 341 BHP and I love it, but if I could afford it I would get an 08 tomorrow.

No, no, no anyone who makes you feel like a lepper isn't worth worrying about. They're just jealous.

They said the same thing when the Bugeye came out and it was my first love.

I don't go to meets for other reasons - I questioned the establishment (= the hallowed guild of suppliers) so I don't feel so comfortable around their sycophants.

I am more concerned that this bluddy economic crisis destroys the car industry and Subaru gets taken over by Toyota or Lada and turned into some grannies car....

As time goes on I am finding myself falling for it too. Next year I was going to buy a new car, I had visions of some kind of R32 and not bothering to look at the scoob, But as time goes on I cant help but think I will end up with a 330s

I'm not doubting the recession has effected, in fact vertually stalled Subaru's market.. (a statement not everyone on here would agree with btw).. but would you attend a car meet where you know 90% of the attendee's think your car is ugly? and the sole reason for subaru's market downturn? LOL.... naa... I'll keep to enjoying my Impreza and scaring my friends...

It's 50/50 mate. You'll find that on every 08 thread someone takes a pop at them and even when you drive one very few subaru drivers wave, even when you've waved, it's just a blank look most of the time.

I don't bother the wave anymore Paul.... most Subaru drivers do not reconise the new shape head on.... so you end up waving to yourself..

Probably the reason there are not many sightings.... I usually spot 1 or 2 on my way up to Worcs (100 mile trip) and very rarely see a newage.

Over the years Ive had some nice Scoobies/Evo's most of them near newish and some special edition along the way, but at the time I was living at home with my parents and I had lots of money to spare, I used to feel good going to meets, and people saying how nice my car was and how lucky I was, Now I own my house and got a family to support I cant afford expensive new cars, and I have settled for a 1999 Version 6 STi, it doesnt look special and to be honest it doesnt get many looks or I get anyone ask me about my car much.

But I do enjoy going to meets and shows still, even though my car is old and not as good looking or as fast as most over owners cars, But I still enjoy owning a scoob and talking and meeting other Scooby owners!!!!

I like the 08. I like the Bugeye when it came out too. It's good to be different! And those Recaros are gorgeous

I love the 08 STi, my Dad has one and I drive it as often as I can When I bought my Scoob he followed me back round the M25 and it looked evil in my rear view mirror It's a joy to drive it

Fair comment mate..

But a 1999 Version 6 STI is an iconic part in Subaru's rally history..... and tatty or not... is still regarded as a true Subaru.

The 2008 rally car never had a chance to prove it's worth.... and will be remembered as the failure in WRC (unless Prodrive can shake it up)

scooby L, as someone who's car drove people clean out of the showroom.....

Back in February 2002

(Bug-eye owner !) I feel, that same feeling of barely tempered jealousy everywhere I take it.

I just felt the 08 hatch was too civilised, so I blew some cash making mine faster.... glad really as facing years of payments in this recession would be depressing.

Get out there, "Apple" has a mean looking grey one, in the sunshine it looks ace !

When Subaru made the major decision to change the looks and produce the Bugeye it was designed specifically so that would grow on people and be up to date with its looks. It succeeded despite the initial criticism and although some still don't like it there's a strong support for it now - especially if you look on NASIOC, they absolutely love it!

I feel the same thing has happened with the hatch. Completely changed so that it will become a future classic and it has started to show. It is a grower. Once again NASIOC love it and there are regular pushes to 500 WHP!

I would like one in future.

Where do people get these fantasy figures from 0-60 in under 4 secs, I think 4.5 secs is more like it but even then you'd probably only ever manage that once and then your clutch would die.

The 0-100 is more realistic.

The official figure for the 330s is 4.4 @ 325bhp, another 60bhp will make even more of a difference albiet if you have no mechanical sympathy.

Think you better check again the 330s is 4.8, the standard MY08 is 5.2.

Subaru figures have always been on the optomistic side, remember the quoted 0-62 for the WR1

That is what Subaru quote but most of the independent test show the standard STI doing 4.8 or better, see article below, with the 330 doing it in 4.4
