I never thought i would say this, but the scooby is not the begining and the end of cars. FFS Ford virtually invented rallying, and Subaru have come and GONE, just like that. I have owned countles scoobs including the very first V7 STI Wagon with a TSL 333 on it in the uk, so i think i know a bit cars, which include a host of M3's/ schnitzers/alpinas and the ever rare hartge. The focus ST is a great drivers car in everyday driving, ok AWD Scooby will be better in the wet and snow, but FFS how often is the weather that bad. Im afraid, that in every day situations the Focus ST will find a scoob out, iv'e got an Escos with 340/340 and a AMB set rear axle, the same as WRC plus a host of other ,mods which will see off MOST COMPETITORS,but the ST still impresses

I'll repeat, I was speaking from a pure factual/tachnical point of view and the RA-R is the best Scoob to have come from the factory. Wasn't it not long ago you wanted to buy my old Spec C Type-RA off me? What was the matter, your lowly Spec C not doing it for you was it?

And if you want to take a bit of time to reflect, reflect on a lot of the work you've had carried out has been for free due to your SNet connections so count yourself lucky you're driving around in the car that you are driving around in.

You do seem quite uptight..... it is a shame you are lost over the "jest" bits. Also a shame you are resulting to personal remarks and total hearsay about specifics regarding my cars development. All of this because I dared make a jesting remark about your mightier than thou RA-R!

Let me give you some REAL facts......

That is because it is one of the best Scoobs within these forums and certainly one of the best Spec C's in the UK in my view. Does not mean that anyone else can not disagree with that view and I certainly don't get uptight if someone elses view is different.

There is no denying that the RA-R is an extremely good car for track use, but for road use it is certainly not the best car for the majority of Subaru drivers (and this goes for a lowly Spec C or STi as well). The term "Best" is subjective not an outright fact.

I "looked" at buying a Type-RA because I wanted something that was "normal" again. I then came to my senses after several discussions with people, including the person who helped you make your mind up to keep your RA-R. In fact it was the opposite.... an RA-R wouldn't hold a candle to my car, for my REAL desires. I test drove both the RA-R and a S204 (which imo is a much better all round car) and neither of them gave me the precise handling or sheer excitement of my Spec C. That does not make mine any better, but more of what I REALLY wanted.

Ok Shaun I apologise for being a bit uptight. Yesterday was a bit of a hard day for me on a personal level, I should've have bitten my tongue and seen your comments were in jest and left it that. I may have been misreading/misrepresenting your posts and taking them to mean otherwise.

As for me making that statement, well, I was told by someone (who's name I will not mention not for being childish but for the sake of not dragging them into this) that you get a lot of free dyno time in turn for using your car as an advertisement board for several companies and them getting exposure on this forum through yourself.

It may have been hearsay and something I shouldn't have resorted to mentioning, so I'm man enough to admit that it was rather childish of me.

We've had our little 'spat' so to speak so lets just leave it at that.

We're all entitled to our opinions, it is a public forum at the end of the day.

I know you've done a lot for SNet over the years and it wouldn't be where it is now without your input and effort, so again I apologise for the derogatory comment about me being glad you having nothing to do with the forum anymore.

I agree, you do have one of the best Spec C's in the country, but ONLY because it has been heavily modified, nothing more. You could not compare driving an S204 or an RA-R against your car, when, you have Whiteline goodies all over it along with the Race Spec AST's. There is bound to be no comparison then is there? So maybe your view is little flawed there.

I'm not saying my RA-R is mightier than thou, if you read what I posted, I stated that from a pure factual or technical point of view, whichever you choose to look at it, it is the best to have come from the factory so far. It was you who chose to pick up on that comment and have a pop at it. Yes, I know you said it in 'jest' and looking back I should have seen that now and had a bit of a laugh with you over it, but yesterday being the crap day it was and the mood I was in meant I couldn't see the funny side of anything, so in hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have been posting at all yesterday. Yes there are other Scoobs out there that may be better suited than mine to use in 'this and that' situations but only because they have had heavy modifications carried out, changing and improving their driving character. I still haven't found a B road where I cannot apply FOT in my car.

Once again, I openly apologise for the childish remarks I made, and I make that apology for all on this forum to see. Some of the things I said were wrong, so at least I'm willing to admit that and see the error of my ways rather than get into another heated debate with you.

I neither have the inclination or effort today to carry this on, so rather than argue like two school children in a yard lets just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

lots of us didn't buy the subaru becasue it was the 'most historic rally car', we didn't buy it because it has 4wd, we didn't buy it to 'find out' focus ST's, most of us bought it for the same reason that you bought your esco. (unless you bought it as a trafficlight ego-booster, if so, than count me out) after all no-one in their right mind would buy a ford escort of that era, but the cosworth is different, it was more than the car it was based on. The focus is a good everyday car, the volvo engined ones more so. So we don't think that the impreza is the 'beginning and end of cars', we just happen to love the cars we drive, (well some of us anyway).

Not sure if you attend track days (spectating or otherwise), but you are more than welcome to come out for a spin on the black stuff in mine. Make sure you bring a change of underwear though, as I was on track at Oulton Park last month and I managed to spin my mates FRS in a 360 and face the other way on the other side of the track.

Now, the real question is would I have done that if I had been in my Scoob..... probably not as gay wheel drive does have it's advantages and it was the first time I had ever come off track. Now was that because of FWD or was it because I can't drive for ****. ROFLOL

I do attend a lot of days up at Castle Coombe, only because it's closest to me as I live in South Wales. I've yet to have the chance to take take mine on track though simply because of my odd shift pattern, I never seem to get the time. I'm determined to at least one this year so maybe you could give some tuition on how to drive on track if you happen to be at the same venue?

I'm also hounding Bridgestone UK to try and get some 18" RE070's into the country, would love to track my car on those. When I first had my RA-R it came with a set of them on and they were nothing short of spectacular. It was pretty funny watching the guy changing them. 'I've never seen tyres with stuff a stiff sidewall mate,' he said. 'I'll be done for the f**king day after doing these four now!' And he was rather red in the face as he said it! Still makes me laugh to this day.

Would love a passenger ride with you. Thank kindly for the offer. I don't scare easily in a car though so you're gonna have to try pretty damn hard to get me to leave a moist patch!

Talking about the RS, I think if I was looking at a new RS I would surely be tempted to buy a ST and make a few handling mods and bang in a slip diff. OK... it will never be an RS, but something I have learnt is that I modify no matter what. In that case for me, it is less important what the base car is as what I end up with will rarely be classed as the same car. In many ways they are very similar. A friend of mine took the GGR demo car out the other week (330bhp) and he said it was such a better all round car over his FRS. That said he did say his FRS felt better on the road and more nimble..... I would suspect this would have a lot to do with the fact that his FRS runs competition AST's and various other handling mods though.

I think the new RS looks the bollocks and perhaps that would be the tipping point for me. It would have to be the green for me though!

I live in the skipton area,i did manage no probs to get around,i even foolishly went to the gym one evening,only to find when i got down into the car park people were stuck in various cars,i got out, let my tyres down, and drove back up the hill and out!

Sorry, have to agree with Retro here.

I live on the border and spent plenty of time in Skipton, Haworth and many places around Lancs and Yorks and generally have no issues in both my FWD vehicles.

AWD is better in snow, no doubting that but not having AWD doesn't immobilise you.

PS shouldn't you drive a 2CV if you live over Haworth way

actually had a T4 VW camper until recently- thats FWD- come winter, I'd put my mud and snow tyres on it- it was brilliant.

It was 3 years old but had done over 90k miles hence the hike in price.

This was after they fitted a brand new engine as well, so in theory the miles shouldn't have made a difference but they wouldn't accept that.
