Interesting, I can't make my mind up if I think it is wrong or right for Police to be BNP members, I put it on the same level as people not being able to join the force if they have ever had financial problems due to the fact you have access to privileged information.

But, this is not echoed throughout other civil departments.

Just because the Government are spineless does not mean we all are. And, the vast majority of Muslims living here, are not interested in trying to convert us. It's only the extremists who get the news.

BNP membership was only banned fairly recently for police.

There are arguments both ways re it being a legitimate political party but the weight of it goes that it's an inherintly racist party, so how can you be fair if a member of it?

It would lead to courts having to disclose to the defence and jury that an officer is a BNP member and give doubt on a case where a non white person is in the dock for any offence.

Thanks for adding a little balance Lesley. You are right it's the empty vessels who make the most noise and gain the most publicity. We're members of the human race first and foremost, we all live under the same sky. The religious zealots and extremists are following personal agendas and using twisted interpretations to justify their evil actions. Actually that quote is a load of bollox, it's supposed to say:

"Obey the law of the land you are in if the land is not a muslim state/country etc"

"Breaking the laws of that land is the same as breaking the laws in a muslim state/country"

There is no such thing as a muslim state or country in this day and age - Malaysia comes close but they are off key as well.

The documentary highlighted one point that the racism tends to be a cultural thing and not necissarily religous based (however the purpotrators and preachers tend to use the religion as a vehicle to vent their own hatered and venom).

It's these types of people that are causing havoc in the british muslim communities. The majority of young, afluent and successful muslims are moderate and respect the laws of the country. They also diffrentiate themselves from these types of backward people because they too can see the hatred and venom in these people.

But you get this 'hooligan' mentality everywhere, it just happens to be he century of the new enemy (Islam) so it's being highlighted.

Actually I think you'll find most Muslims are very tolerant, its the minority that you keep hearing about on the news all the time, unfortunately people in this country don't seem to bother to look beyond the tabloid headlines.
A good friend of mine is a Muslim and he sees his religion as a personal thing, its about his life not others, the same incidentally as my South African friend who is a Christian, infect both faiths are very similar.

One of the best places to see multiculturalism working is here in Cambridge, there's people of all countries, faiths and backgrounds living together here and it makes for an interesting and enjoyable place to live.
As in all walks of life religious or otherwise there are good and bad people, just because someone is Muslim doesn't make them a crazy suicide bomber, our media should be helping the moderates in this country, instead of tarring them all with the same brush.

Anybody who lives in this country should follow our laws and integrate into our culture simple, if someone is a danger to the people of this country why should there human rights come before everyone else's? don't get it, what about my human right to be able to live in a free democratic tolerant society without the fear of extremists killing myself or my family.
We need rid of extremist individuals that talk about harming this country and better understanding of the religions and faiths of the people living in this country.
