I have already asked him if you read the topic...

I have asked you as well because in post 24 you clearly stated that you dont think its fecked just because of the bold title problem. So I asked you to tell me why you think it is fecked.

I hope that helps to clarify for you.

The reason i flaged this problem, is that all posts today before 15.47 in the scoobynet general for example are faint, so i have trouble seeing what i've read, and not read.
The sites not fecked as others say, by any means, it's just a little annoying thats all.

Its not working for me, hence me coming into policy and finding this thread.

I loved the bold for unread threads for the same reason, but now its just a sea of normal text and I have to read each thread title to see if I've viewed it before.

Some of the forums it works such as other marques, but in NSR it doesn't work at all.

What's happened to the quick edit box as well?

Ok, found out whats going on.

Originally it had the system set so that each topic has a database key for every member so it woudl remember if you had read it or not, this is a real overhead for a webforum of this size so its been adjusted to a "Per Visit" setting which is what we do for all our other sites to improve performance.

As a result, when you visit the site, all unread threads that have been updated since last visit will be bold, but each time you leave the forum it will mark all forums as “read” (and unbolden the titles).

The only difference will be if there is an update to a thread, you visit the forum, don’t read the thread, the next time you visit that thread will be “un-bold” (i.e. as if you DID read it)

Does that make sense?

Yeah, i understand what you say, but is it a good trade off? Did it improve performance?
I would prefer it the way it was, and trade the performance boost please
Maybe a poll?

Thank you for looking into it Stu.... why is it only happening to some of us though?

On another note, have you reduced the picture sizes in an update?

I am surprised you cant tell SN is faster yourself? Its much faster on my ISP.
(Not just this tweak, quite a few)

I think its happening to us all, but those who didn't go into a forum more than once wouldn't have noticed.

Not heard of any pic templates being changed, but the web techs are changing all sorts. See my America post in GD fr more info on that.

would it be possible to increase the picture size at all then, even if it was just in the photography section?

Remind me to revisit this issue after the software update if that doesn't automatically fix it mate, as that will overwrite any changes i make today, this rendering it pointless at the moment.

okeydoke, perhaps not so important in the other sections but we could really do with bigger pics in the photo section.

I agree that I would rather have the posts in bold as before even if the trade off is slightly slower performance.

SN was and still is fecked.

Search works as and when IB feels like it.

Threads not in bold, come out of SN and they are automatically marked as read now.. hmmm,

Got to last post unread... There is a thread in Members Gallery that I last viewed when I last posted on it, 23 Nov 2007, page 2.

The thread is now upto 48 pages, click the go to last unread post took me to page 48 instead of page 3 as it should have.

Does anyone see a link?

Turn the header ads off, you lose the SN logo.

Footer ads that aren't disabled via UserCP.

Ad.doubleclick.slow_the_place_down.crap etc

So YES, in my most humble paying member opinion, Scoobynet is fucked at present.

All your gripes have been covered elsewhere and explanations given, but for the record would you prefer we just close it for a week whilst we do the upgrades then Micky? No point trying to use It if its fooked is there surely?

Well, I will see if the team will switch it back and we can gauge the hit as it wasnt the only tweak made.

I have to say I don't like the 'new' feature with the bold thing

I use SN from different PC's and it is now a right royal pain to find things I have or haven't read

I havent noticed any speed increase at all either since before the move to the States, if anything still get the odd time outs, or the really old problem of the headers and adverts loading really fast then having to wait upto a minute for the thread to show

I thought the bold thread issue was a bug that was to be fixed? So it was turned off in fact then? to help with bandwidth issues? I thought the server move to the US was going to resolve that?

For such an important feature it would of been nice if it was put to a public poll maybe?

Like others I'm missing out on lots of thread updates, as they are also sometimes not showing up as unread (bold) in my subscribed threads to.

doh just saw post #39 sorry, ignore 90% of the above

Well, I've stopped using SN as much since the bold threads have gone as I don't have enough time to sift through threads.

It doesn't seem any quicker for me either.

As sonic has said, its a right PITA now. I don't always get enough time to go through all the threads each visit, which now makes any further returns hard work.

Another vote to change it back from me.

(Can't say it's that much faster either tbh, the top adverts still load up a lot quicker than the actual forums.... Oh wait, I get it. )

Not sure if it's related to the same issues, but, when I click on the main thread title (even if I haven't read any of it) i get taken straight to the last post. Bit of a pain.

Stu,

I rarely use SN now, because it's fucked.

Admit it, IB don't know what they're doing.

Everything is stilll goosed, so you can pontificate all you want.

NO important issues are being dealt with. WTF do IB do all night?
