the "fur" dropping is unbelivable you would think he would be bald the amount he drops just touch him and you are coverd from head to toe seems wierd but i find it very therapeutic combing him

Ref: walking off the lead.

My experience of this is that when they are young, up to 1 year old, generally they are ok but as they get older they want to assert themselves on all other dogs.

We go to a lot of meets with the Alaskan Malamute Working Association and when we all go on the walks to the pubs the dogs are kept at a distance from one another, especially same sex. When we get there they are all tied to very strong/heavy things away from each other. I suppose some people will baulk at this but this is just the way mals are. They just generally don't get on. The main exception to this is when they are working ie. distracted and just want to pull !

As snazy says the best thing to do is if you want one then DO YOUR RESEARCH first. Go to some shows(can be a bit clicky though) and meet some owners/breeders and ask some questions. Us Mal owners like nothing more than to talk about our dogs ! (can you tell)

All that said, would'nt change them for the World.

Jay, spot on mate
From experience on the walks, distance is a good thing, especially when everyone stops, and you get the dogs protecting their packs.

Tuvaaq has a couple of male friends, but as you say, they only really tolorate each other on the move.

A few pics from the last big walk I organised. 2nd one of when 2 dont see eye to eye lol.

Can beat a sight like a group like that.

Yeah, I know what you mean now. Seen em on our travels somewhere.
Snazy, where are you in the country mate? Looks like some great walks. A friend of mine is organizing a big one(via AMWA) in May. It is in Cheddar and the surrounding areas and will involve camping in a farmers field and some beer, no doubt . Some great guys go to these meets I'm sure you would like it if you are close enough.

Nice to see some people wearing the walking belts, makes life much easier. Do you get them from Culpeppers? Top man he is All hand made and with the breed in mind. Check his website out .

How similar ? lol, there is a fine line. They just have an amazing ability to get rid of all the loose stuff quick

I get my stuff from Snowpaws, run by friends, loyalty thing lol.
Yeah walking belts, and harnesses are superb.
Those pics were up round snowdonia, day 2 after the Snowdon climb

Im in sunny South London, but like travelling to some meets. Try and avoid the canine politicians though haha.

I only go to a few meets, ones that I dont organise that is lol. I see a lot of the AMWA stuff on Icebay, but tend to avoid it for some reason.
