I am so sorry to hear about that Sonic, and the other bad tales on this thread. Mrs Leslie and I are very strong animal lovers and it really makes me mad when that sort of thing happens. I would not be answerable for my actions if I caught someone doing something like that.

Hope your cat will make a full recovery.

It turns out now that he has infact been shot twice, once in the throat and once in the face

He has had a stable night, face very swollen and on very strong pain killers, the Vet doesnt think he will be able to remove one of the pellets as it has gone in quite some way and will not be easy to get out, he also doesnt know if there is any nerve damage yet

Even more sick and twisted that he has been shot twice, so they have shot him once, then watched him whilst reloading to shoot him again

Agreed. My mate complained that someone was shooting the birds in his garden.the police WERE interested.
Mind, he did tell them he thought the culprits were speeding too

I have phoned the police now, and they said that I actually did need to report it to them firstly to get a crime reference number for the insurance and secondly that obviously someone is going round with an air gun/rifle and shooting things

He said its actually classed as property damage bizarrely

OMG, poor thing. Once is bad enough, but twice. I really hope the perpetrator has a very slow, painful and lonely death.
Fingers crossed for Puss, get well soon

Aw, Steve! I hope she will be ok. Evil *******s

My cat, Monty, was shot twice - by someone with an air rifle. The first time, I was stroking him, and felt a little lump under all his fluff by his leg- then on investigation I found the entrance hole. Took him to the vets who popped the pellet out.

A couple of weeks later, there was another one - this time it was lodged in his stomach muscle and the vet said it was best to leave it there. He lived with it there until he died. We reported both to the police but they didnt seem overly interested (this was about 12 years ago).

Our then next door neighbour kept racing pigeons, and we were suspicious that it may have been him - he has since moved, and another neighbour has since told us that he was seen taking pot shots at things before he moved out ( how true that was, I wouldnt like to say...!).

There seems to be an increase in this type of thing, and it's disgusting. They should have the same treatment back.

Do air rifles need registering? If not they should do.. its not only animals which get hurt - i've seen reports of kids etc being hit by the damn things

Steve,

Really sorry to hear what's happened

That's the kind of evil barstard ***** the UK now seems to be breeding. Not much else to say, really. Protected by laws set by liberal humanitarianists, no doubt.

It must also be considered cruelty to animals surely. Phone the RSPCA and report it to them as well. They may have some clout in getting the police more appropriately involved?

DD, we have spoke with the RSPCA and the Cats protection league (2 mins from our house) and they are going to speak to the police too

Police were pretty good about it, but not much they can do other than put warnings out to local officers in the area, and hope that someone reports seeing someone do it

Words fail to comment on such cruel acts of some downright psychopath! Hope the cat is recovering well, and hope the shooter b@stard dies a horrible death. Give your kitty a big hug from us, Steve.

Sad little people, no influence or importance in their own life so have to hurt something vulnerable, I was on a cycling forum the other day and there was a thread about cyclists being shot at with air rifles, sorry but someone needs to go down for attempted murder as an air rifle is a weapon which can (and has) killed.

Hope the Mog makes a full recovery.

As a cat lover this kind of thing really annoys me. I must say my grandad used to shoot cats that came into his garden as some kind of gardening bird lover thing, don't think he ever hit one though thank god but not something I found very nice.

Oddly enough I had a dog in my garden yesterday god knows how and it was a big one so was a bit worried about it having a go at me or the cat

Hope yuor cat is Ok in the end.

I agree. Having 5 cats at the moment and having kept alot more over the years, if I found someone shooting them they would probably never be able to hold a rifle or even a pencil afterwards.

I quite seriously do not get it. Philosophically speaking one challenges one's environment so if you have a firearm and the right to use it one stalks a wild animal which is naturally wary of humans and perhaps shoot something for the pot.
However domesticated animals have no fear of humans so shooting at them renders the perpretator a complete ****.
Makes me think of yesterday; shoppers walking through the snow both hands full with shopping nbags and feral teens throwing snowballs at them ie no risk of retaliation, total mismatch.
When I was young I took stuff on when there was a risk of getting caught and getting a slap if I was caught.
Sadly I am coming to the conclusion that todays youth are basically wnkaers!

This is disgusting, it will have been cowards that will have done it who were bullied as kids and they will have felt big by picking on a defenceless little animal.

Get well little fella and scratch their eyeballs out when you next recognise them

We got him from the Cats Protection League and it took a good few months for the 'right' cat to turn up needing a new home

We needed one that was road savvy, kid and dog friendly too, finding a cat that has all of those attributes was no easy task

I only watched him the other day crossing the road, and he looks left and right before crossing far better than the kids do, which made me smile at his road sense, he has no problem with the baby grabbing him and stroking him, and Scooby doesnt even bat an eye lid, and they get on together quite well

I think it would be a bit unfair to make him become a house cat now, although when he comes home from the Vets he will be housebound initially, but he does like the outside too much (the mice don't though )

Picked Fish up from the Vets last night, he has to go back in on tuesday evening for a check up, he is on eye cream, antibiotics and something else

They arent sure what to do yet about the pellet, and they said they may send off the x-rays to a specialist, its currently stuck under his first cervical vertebrae and they arent sure if it will cause any further complications

He was very unsteady on his feet falling over a lot, but he ate as soon as he got home and sat on the couch purring away and having a good sleep

They showed me the X-rays, and they couldnt find an entry point, so their guess is that he was shot in the mouth with his mouth open, and head back, indicating that its quite possible whoever did this put the gun in his mouth and fired it

There is only one pellet, so it appears he has only been shot the once, but if he has had his mouth held open with the gun put in it, then that is even worse

His 3rd eye wont open fully, and they arent sure if this will be permanent or not

Here is a pic of him from last night

Great to see a pic of him mate despite him not looking 100%. He looks like a plucky little cat and I so hope he makes a full recovery.

I cannot write how I feel about what happened to him as I feel my blood boiling just at the very thought of it.

Hope he continues to make good progress and don't let him out of your sight
