Personally I'd love an EVO, but 4 grand is 4 grand, plus the fact that I've had absolutely bugger all trouble out of my last two Imprezas, so its the STi for me (It will probably break down now I've said that )
One thing I can't understand is that nearly every car mag (EVO, Autocar, Auto Express, Car, TG ) has given the STi a good review, now I know it's all down to personal taste and all but whats the point in doing a review on two road going cars on a crappy bit of land, why the #### didn't they do it on the road???
I've never watched Driven before (well maybe 5 mins or so) but this is exactly why TG became crap, all they ever did was just blast the cars around a track.
What a waste of time for two top cars. The program could have been soooooo much better if they had gone to N.Wales or the Highlands or even my road

I taped it, but after scanning through this, reckon I'd be better flicking through the channels for some nudey women? Was it really that bad.

Yep its a family program but i have to agree with graham, thers is probably loads of roads they could of used or private roads to test these 2 great cars.
if the want entertainment with soft bunnys in the should watrc the muppets or tweenies!
at the end of the day its about cars, and surely the target audience would be people actually intersted in cars. ike cooking programs, diy programs. there aimed at a specific audiences, you dont take 2 grat cars and insult them with this srt of s1te test.;(
i know penny p1ss flaps coulld probably out drive most of us, but i dont go round saying im a rally driver,

anyway if my lottey comes up ill buy both!
still prefer the looks of the e6 over the 7 IMHO.

p.s i wouldnt expect them to go into brake temps but it is the facts, to say the brakes feel bad with just one press is abit extreme. then to say the evo brakes were sooo good is a little sceptical? anyway i winged enough, and im sounding a right moaning tw@t!
but just dissapointing when i thought they might do a good job of the test, win or loose scooby
i bet on the saxo forum theyre praising the saxo coz it took the the scoob/evo so long to catch up! LoL and if the saxo had 4wd on that field it would of been a different storey!

Just a couple of points.

1. Not that Im doubting Pennies driving skills as she would own me and 90% of drivers on here (ex rally champ or something I heard) but she didnt seem to be trying that hard with either. What you needed was a timed lap with the same driver doing all 3 cars and possible doing averages over 3 laps for fairness. Also when is the average driver gonna decide to race a Saxo across a field ffs?

2. When the STi 7 was on jasons tail it was level and not gaining, as soon as he said shes gonna get me it was like she actually only then accelerated whereas when the Evo 7 went passed it was still under full steam - if thats not staged then I dont know what is.

3. Whats all this **** about computer geeks? Most of us are partial to playing rally games on the PS2 and spend a fair amount of time on here. If we got asked to go do that test drive we would all jump at the chance.

4. Prettiest car? Erm they are both as ugly as sin - nobody buys either purely on looks thats for sure.

5. The Evo7 probably is the better drivers car if you have the ability to use it to its potential. The average driver wouldnt be able to IMHO.

Cool

I loved the part where Penny said that it understeered (actually they all said the STi understeered) which it does, until you push it harder then it stops understeering cos the suretrack diffs do their job!
also you see the woman who was meant to be the scoob driver talking about the gearbox being very close?? errrrrrrrrrrm i think that has something to do with the fact that its got quickshift as standard, DOH!
Most people compare their old scoobs (mainly pre MY00's) to the evo, there is no comparison, my MY00 isnt a scratch on an STi7 on the twisties, it would leave me standing for sure, it corners flatly and goes like the clappers the evo may be an excellent car but on open roads the scoob would be the quicker :P

I have to say, after the futile wind ups from an EVO VI and now a VII driver I did consider a Subaru STi. Why didn't I, I think we all have a little loyalty to the brand we are currently driving (in my case it was the VI). I thought the spec very good value for money.

My only dislike was its overall shape, although it is now acceptable following its STi/Prodrive makeover.

AS mentioned earlier it all comes down to personal taste. OH! and the EVO VII is better according to Penny and 6 grown ups! LOL!

On the handbrake front i recall seeing a thread a while back where at least on older scoobs such a device being used while moving wasn't a cunning plan although i believe this aint the case now?

What a surprise, Scoobynet up in arms about 'unfair tests', 'fixed results', 'dodgy camera work' etc.....
At the end of the day, had the result been the other way around, would that have suddendly made Driven a 'top programme' 'definitely the best mottoring show around' etc etc.

At the end of the day, 1 car had to win and in this it was the Evo.

But lets be honest, how many of you bought your scooby because of what you saw on a single TV programme or read about in a single magazine review?

I test drove a P1 and an Evo6 and made up my own mind which I'm sure is what people will do when they want either an E7 or Sti.

I can't see what all the fuss is about really.

Andy

Thumbs up

We know the Scooby is funny looking with the lights and we know they have made the car more BMW like, we knew that when it was released and we hated it at first due to the styling. Yes they could have tested the car better and not had a bunch of w4nkers driving them and used a proper road and test track.

When top gear tested the two cars a long while back the Scooby won and that was Tiff on a race circuit and then lets look at why these cars are even on the public roads, answer rallying of course.

Which car makes the best rally car answer the Impreza, the new EVO has that many problems it's not even getting in the top ten on most stages. So driven thought the EVO was better big deal lets wait for the end of the season and lets hope Subaru do face lift the new model and get back to what matters.

Darren.

I can't be bothered to read the whole thread so this may have been said before.

If you a judging these two cars as purely a performance car then with blinkers off surely the only car that can come out on top is the EVO. If I had the choice of either I'd pick the EVO.

With Regards to DRIVEN. What a pethetic test! If I was considering either car I would be no better infomed than before watching DRIVEN.

The Evo may be a better car I dunno I have never driven the new shape Impreza (let alone the STi) or the EVO but watching it last night it did seem and two mates agreed that they were biased towards the EVO, maybe because they thought it was a better car I dunno. Penni overtook the SAXO in exactly the same place in both cars yet was raving the EVO was much quicker etc...

Well hopefully less Impreza's will be carjacked now ansd the insurance will go down? I wish

Is this one still going? - what a surprise......

Sheepsplitter summed it up on page 3 of this thread - John Thaw died yesterday - a great shame, a brilliant actor who gave magnificent performances over a career of 40 years.

Me? - i've had my 15 minutes of fame on Scoobynet but apart from that have contributed precious little of note to the world.......

RIP John Thaw

Oh, and EVO7 vs STi7?........

So, there's an outcry because Driven reckons the EVO is a better car than the STI. Cries of "marketing", allegations of fixed results...

What about EVO mag holding the imported STI in not great light, then loving the UK STI a few months later? The UK review appeared a month before a rather large advertising feature.

naaa naaa naaa naaa

evo's are best

having got that off my chest the clear winner was the saxo as it costs loads less than the evo or even the scoob and on tarmac wasn't that much slower.

I've seen plenty of people say scoob understeers on here.

wish I'd watched this program now.

I bet scoobyland must be covered in freshly spat out dummies. Theres about 100 on this thread alone :-) :-)

Evo is a great daily driver. All the people saying its not haven't even had one so CAN'T comment.

I thank you

No one can argue that the evo 7 feels tighter and more responsive. All people who have owned both have said so. Been a few threadds rfecently on lancer forum started by people who have moved from Scoob to evo and are well chuffed

Both nice motors as has been said b4

Drive em both and make up your own mind FFS! I really really want to test drive both - I'm an acceleration junkie. Couldn't really give two ****s if the scoob understeers as standard when driven in the conditions Penny drove in - my wagon oversteers everywhere by choice. Couldn't give two ****s if the EVO has a smaller fuel tank. Servicing intervals I have to admit would be a pain in the ****.

IMHO the EVO7 is nowhere near as nice looking as the EVO6, and the STi7 is not as beautiful as the STi6. But when I'm sitting inside I really couldn't care less.

I've said it before though, why can't Mitsu make an EVO wagon?

Maybe next time I'll consider a move to a saloon and try out the EVO7 and STi7.

So everyone knows the test was unscientific, edited and basically entertainment. Ignore the results. You can ignore the punters who said they prefer the looks of the EVO if you don't agree. If Penny said the EVO7 felt a lot quicker maybe there's something in it (stats shown elsewhere would dispute this) and IMHO it's about the feel of the car more than anything else. If I thought the EVO7 felt much quicker and made me smile more than the STi7 I'd probably go for it. If I felt the EVO7 would just make me drive faster (i.e. well over the speed limit) before it was fun to drive (for me, that's a bit of excitement and controllable oversteer), I'd probably pass.

It's not unsurprising that a Subaru bulletin board does not find favour with this result is it? Why does everyone throw their toys out of the pram when a Scoob isn't rated best car ever over everything? Get real!!!!

The Scoob is not better tha an Evo 7. An Evo 7 is not better than a Scoob. The choice made by the people on the program went in the Mistu favour, but that just means most of them preferred it, not that the Scoob is necessarily any worse. Most people on this board obviously prefer Scoobs for their own personal reasons (and I bet 99% of them have not driven an Evo so who are they to contradict the result anyway?) , doesn't mean a Rolls Royce is ****e, just not the type of car you want to own.

If you can get that upset that someone thinks that your car is less desirable/fast/handles worse than any other then you really should go out and get a life.

I thought it was great

The EVO is the better car - in pure A-B terms - we all know that!!!

Cool to see them sliding around and the reactions the IT lot had to driving them for the first time. Reminded me of when i bought my WRX!!!

Thought the Saxo came out the best!!

*LOL* at everyone

Nearly came on last night to start a "driven: who want's to go first?" thread, but I couldn't be arsed and would have been beaten to it anyway!

Enough has probably been said now, but would just like to add that I saw a white Evo (think it was a 7) on my way into work this morning, with red and white wheels - 'orrible!! Like a clown in a shell suit!

I'll keep me scoob for now

What was everyone expecting from Driven? Hasn't anyone ever watched it? You can tell which car's going to win in the first 5 seconds.

Every manufacturer would give it the full PR effort - so saying Mitsi sponsored the prog or whatever to get the result is b*llocks.

I'm going to cancel my Scoob order as they're obviously a load of sh*te having watched Driven. Thank you Driven. I'll get a Cossie instead.

See me, loved it!!!!

It gave my mates a rare opportunity to have a dig about my scoob.

All harmless fun if you ask me, cleared the slate for me to impress them again with how my scoob doesn't understeer, how the brakes are brilliant and how it sounds the dogs Oh and also how people point and stare at such an ugly , undesirable, monster as it rumbles through the city

Roll on the next Drivel STi v EVO match

Mikey

Even my girlfriends mum phoned me to ask if I was gonna buy an EVO next. She then pleaded with me not to

By the way, Mitsubishi is an anagram of 5hiti-bumsi

Edited cos the swear bloking thing ruined the mitsubishi thing

Everyone has there own opinion - which is fine

But to talk B*LL5h1t cause the evo was better is stupid - there is loads on here eg. The brakes comment "the evo has better brakes - no it cant, cause they are Brembo's" Hmmm I wonder if Ferrari F1 would agree?

I've had 2 scoobs and a whole host of other turbo 4wd cars and 300bhp rwd cars its all personal opinion. I was looking at getting either a STi 7 or a Sti type UK Prodrive, but haven spoken to Sam Ellasar he pointed out a crucial thing the weight. Having driven all 3 the STi7, UK STi and evo - I've chosen the Evo.

This is as much for a change as anything else though.

B4 you knock any car go and drive it!!! for at least 35 minutes 2-3 days is best but not many garages will lend you a car for that.

I'll never forget the fun I've had in both my scoobs - especially Network Q time.

Just my opinion

dont own a scoob or an evo, but I did notice that it was the Autocar test car - -which has a 2000 quid power and handling upgrade. I would also suggest the Evo has done 10000 miles and is nicely worn in , the scoob maybe a few thousand

The best bit about all of this is that if you turned over straight after the test you didn't miss Kylie

I thought the yellow bunnies looked much better than the pink ones, but saying that my mum liked the pink bunnies better - suffice to say we're not talking now and I feel the need to vent

What a load of rubbish.

Using that argument can I suggest that you sell your Scoobies? The new Ford Ka is comfortable, goes 12,500 miles between services and does 50mpg. It's even available is Subaru Racing Blue but unfortuantely the 555 won't fit across the boot.
