Funnily enough I bumped into an old friend yesterday who has bought a 997 turbo (one year old, £68k, has had it a few months)
He let me have a drive, and I must say it is very very nice. The engine is very responsive, the twin turbos integrate well to give seemless power delivery. Feels very fast obviously
Turns in well, corners well and most importantly gives quite alot of feedback (compared to my heavy, insulated M5 anyway)
Only real downside is the engine note that has little character, all you can really hear is the whine of the turbos
Felt much better than the 996 Turbo I drove a few years ago.
I haven't driven the GTR, but at £60k for a two year old 997TT, the 997TT must be the car to buy out of the two.

I have now seen a 997 GT3 for £60k which has an amazing engine note, revs to 8,400rpm, is faster than the turbo and gives so much feedback, at least initially, it is almost overwhelming.
And the upside is that it has PASM so makes it much more of a day to day car compared to the 996. The GTR might shade it on track but I know which one I would prefer to drive.

They are thereabouts for the 997 or interestingly the evo test has the 997 GT3 as slower to 100 than the 996 GT3.
Official times for the 997 GT3 is mid 8s and turbo is low 8s. Both practically fast enough
I would trade the GT3 chassis and engine note for 4wd anyday personally. The GT3 is like a go kart and very easy to drive blisteringly fast.

What do you reckon to the older GT2 twin turbo models? I drove an 02 plate a while back and was impressed by the rapid pace and braking... the prices are falling into reasonable territory now so thinking either the GT2 or the older R34 GT-R for summer...

Never driven a gt2, but it was nicknamed ' the widowmaker'

I sold it as was offered what I paid for it (£55K) and also was worried about depreciation/running costs etc

The Dunlops are horrible in the wet, I'll be going for Pirellis in the correct size, non-RFT which my insurer is happy with, or consider dropping a profile which gives opens of PS2, Eagle, FK452 etc.

I'm meeting with my mate tomorrow who has had his for about 3 months now, been through a set of stupidly expensive tyres already. I'll check on the make. Its obscenly fast, he's been pulled load of times in his already. He was silly enough to let me have a blat, just such a licence looser you feel like you're doing 40 at 100.
Think he wants to give it back way before the warranty goes given the gear box is made of butter.
