One informs the ECU of the air volume in through the inlet pipe and the other informs the ECU of boost from the turbo

 

I think the point Andy is trying to make is that in earlier model the MAP can get "saturated" when running close to the boost limit. I'm no expert so I'd suggest you talk to someone like Paul or Mark to confirm.

Having looked at your rolling road figures you'd would have expected it to have had problems at 5k if this was the problem

SPA Oil Pressure and Oil Temp gauge fitted, using a 4 way block.... other two outlets are blanked for now. Location/Final fitting could be better but its sturdy enough and in my general line of sight for quick glances Still needs to be set up properly for my prefs (read in bar etc)








also started work on a makeshift catch can/vent to atmosphre set up for the breathers after breaking a 90 bent on the inlet just before the turbo. You can see oil in the inner wing for some hard laps at the weekend.

 

adam, i have a 3.5 bar map sensor and a set of resisted 8 plugs, i can send them to you if you want mate and if they are the cure of the problem you can pay me when you have tried them, if they are no help to the problem just send me them back. you cant get fairer than that

just out of curiosity, did you only start getting the misfire/splutter when the car was getting hot ie after 2 laps or so ?

if yes then i had the same problem 4 years ago on my version 2 track car, backed the boost off slightly and it was perfect, the map sensor had reached its limit (1.2 bar in this case ) but they can obviously vary slightly, once it was backed off to 1 bar it was fine.

at 1 bar there is still a misfire, but i cant feel it (noted when mapping)... it gets worse with more boost.

If anything i say it felt better after a few hard laps (or maybe i was just getting used to it!)

Started making up a test splitter from hardboard... I knew the bumper was going to be a pain to work with as the bottom is quite angled, so the splitter would naturally point up (giving lift) I had planned to space the front of it down and test things out BUT i ran out of time and patience before trackday tomorrow am. I tried about 30mm spacers on the front, but it was still angled! Anyone tell me which bumper is best to use as this damn STi one is a pain






Raised the back of the bonnet a touch. Not a fan of huge lifts, so kept it quite subtle and removed the rubber seal at the back to help get hot air out quicker... Need to reverse the scoop too as its just a air brake at the moment!



DIY catch can... I have ordered a twin entry one, but this orange juice bottle will do for now :|

I blocked the block to inlet, blocked the PCV, and vented the 2nd of the block breathers (i know they are just T'd but was easier to plumb this way with what i had). Cam cover breathers... I think i'm getting a bit confused with them. I had them ready to t together and vent to catch can BUT then just had a look under the inlet and thought I saw they were just linked directly to each other. Since found out that this isnt the case, and they also go to the inlet. Anyone tell me where?

 

looks like the splitter is the problem going to do mine this week what final material are you going too use?

i have an ABW TA type splitter and is totally flat around so will/should mount fairly easily

 

there is nothing wrong with the splitter, or do you mean the STi trim bits on the bottom of the bumper?

They actually flatten it out more!

 

trim splitter at bottom off bumper see hereyou have a totally flat surface to mount it too

edit just been outside too look at mine and mine points straight so hopefully undertray will too

works mint on mine adam, also take a look at the pink scoobyclinic car it has a similar setup to you but on a facelift bumper

 

which splitter is that, or is it DIY?

Thats a different bumper from mine... under mine its like the front of a WRX, curved down (more than with STi parts) at the rear.

there is a line at the bottom of your bumper pretty much level, cut a strip of 1mm alloy or 4mm foamex like i used,3" tall and bolt it to your bumper all the way round, then at the bottom of the alloy or foamex get a long strip of alloy 90 degree angle and put cuts half way through it so it will bend around the contour of the bumper and fix it to the alloy or foamex with bolts, i used allon key black buttons, then drill the bottom of the 90 degree angle alloy and fix the splitter to it, bair in mind this does create alot of downforce so it must be strong, i fitted upstands on the splitter of mine behind the fog lights that fixed onto the inner wing with quick release pip pins,

done some quick changes to DIY catch can...

Using an ebay catch can now (still very small, and with quite small bore inlets! BUT i have used some 22mm reinforced hose (same as Skyline) for the breather pipes (but had to reduce to meet catch can etc) This should slow the airflow/oil vapour down once/if it comes out on track - meaning hopefully less oil wasted in the can




and and another look at the discs on the Impreza.... oh dear. Good job we towed that car home from the last trackday, as the brakes felt warped but there were no visable cracks at the track (must have happened when cooling)! 2 cracks clean through the O/S disc, and 1 on the N/S.

new brakes now on, bled but not tested yet.

Still need to double check how thick the discs are, and maybe shim the caliper out a bit. Will have a look at somepoint tomorrow....

you can see a permant heat haze from it.... so i think its letting a lot more hot air out.

And the brakes.... 335mm 6pots. Seem much more progressive and every improving with bedding. Will do a few trackdays with them before swapping pads to XP10's and beefier discs
