Stupid tool of a benchmark wont run, seems to want to direct itself to the warhammer install instead of Crysis original..
Oh well.

I got the 280 from Overclockers - they were selling them off at a ridiculously low price before the 285 came out. I can't work out how I got the Asus EN280GTX for what amounted to £100 less than equivalent models but I wasn't complaining. I got the last one.
In a way I'm glad to see that the card is noticeably quicker than the 8800GTX as it means it was a fair decision to buy one.
I'm most pleased that I can now run Fallout 3 with every setting on full now and the difference in quality is great.
Oh, I'm going to post up Speedfan screen grabs tonight 'cos I could swear my 4GHz e8400 is running at a maximum of 25C when running SuperPi. On tickover it drops to 14C (I kid you not)

Oooo, not one to hold back on funds I see
. I'm toying between a Enermax Modu82+ 625 or Corsair HX620. However, I'm not fully committing yet as I'm not sure of exactly how much quieter they will be than my current PSU (which allegedly is rated at 24dB - BS). Its not as quiet as I would like it when I'm running my PC in "quiet mode" (I have varying profiles based on noise vs OC speed ).
I'd say its closer to 30dB when exhaust temps are above 46°C. Which is not that much worse than the measurements I've seen for reviews on both the Corsair/seasonics and Enermaxs I'm looking at.
I have to try doing some modifications first to stop it sucking warm air off the CPU which is causing the higher exhaust temps and making the fan run faster (thus finally binning the Intel cooler - which is a hairdryer on max OC mode, still, its better than the Zalmans I tried), because its going to get worse when I plonk in a quad core.
I must admit, that Tbalancer fan controller I bought is superb for measuring/controlling temps (3 system fans); Even if the interface is buggy in vista (just program it in XP, using dual boot

Overclock3D.Net :: Review :: Enermax Infiniti 720w Modular PSU :: Introduction & Packaging
Id watch enermax, i blew a 1000w dxx galaxy, my fault but when i took it apart the soldering on the boards and the general tardiness left a lot to be desired.
Current setup.
g0 q6600 3.0ghz ek supreme acetal block
4gb pc8000 teem xtreem
3870x2 ek water block
Thermochill pa120.3 radiator
4 xilence redwing 120mm fans 68cfm 21dba
3 akasa blue led fans 80mm
samsung 20x sata dvd-rw
Coolermaster stacker 810 case with cf fan
Asus p5k deluxe
Compro t300 dvb card
Alphacape coolplex 10 res i think
pink feser one fluid
Tagan 1100w bz psu
Laing vario d5 pump
Temps did hit 44 degrees but the rad is filthy i shall be grabbing a can of air spray tomorrow if i remember to.
I had a titan amanda tec, works very will with quads not so with duals, it only really shines when pushed hard even titan say this on the box, managed 3.6ghz stable but temps were close to threshold so stepped it back, i could probably manage 3.8ghz on water but i cba.
Going water was a fantastic decision, expensive initial outlay especially if you swap gfx cards often but the temps and relative silence makes it very worthwhile, and it looks dead sexy anyway.
I believe swiftech sell a water block with a built in tec but seeing as you're going below ambient you may as well get a peltier if your going down that road.

Is it this one
BTT.... especially since I have just built my latest "rig".
Running the same Crysis benchmark as already used within this thread (same settings), I acheived 76fps.
My previous set-up (as detailed above) gave 37fps. That is a massive increase in such a hungry game, especially from a GPU set-up that cost me just over £200.
Any recent benches with these settings from anyone else and what spec?

Crysis is for old skool pussies, will it run ARMA 2 ??
I have been unable to get my q6700 over 3.3ghz
It will do that on the stock voltage with no problems, but it will not go past this point.
I have also been unable to overclock my Asus gtx275 at all, even with the supplied overclocking software, it is still reluctant to give me anything.
I have been considering selling the GTX275 and picking up something else (maybe a 295 as i dont have an SLI mobo)

It might be old school but it still mashes a PC up!
Just upgraded to an i7 920 D0 stepping, clocked to 4ghz!
Graphics cards are "cheap" ATi 5770's in crossfire.
These cards are right up the chuff of the current leader which is the GTX285 SLi set-up for mainstream games. However, the SLi 285 set-up walks my cards for Crysis. Apparantly that engine is pro NVidia.... that is until I ramp the settings to 8xAA and then I am right up the chuff again of the GTX285 SLi set-up.
For the price of these 5770's (and they are DX11), they are great value for money.

Shaun,
Am thinking of building myself a new rig at home, would you mind listing out what components your using in your new setup?
I'm trying to decide whether to go with the latest gear or pay a bit less for slightly older parts!?!?!?

Andy,
I originally bought the "cheaper" graphics cards as getting hold of the current top of the bunch ATi cards is like getting an audience with the pope, so you may see that the rest of the spec is geared towards high end. I suspect I will be replacing the GFX within the next 3-4 months, as the cards bought are only a stop gap (although a very good one as it turns out!).
But here we go:
CPU
Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366), clocked to 4ghz
£199.99
MB
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3
£189.99
PSU
Corsair HX 1000W ATX Modular
£175.00
OS
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit - OEM

RAM
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel
£124.99
CASE
Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
£77.99
HARD DRIVE
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM
£66.99
CPU COOLER
Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler
£34.99
OPTICAL DRIVE
Pioneer DVR-A18L 22 x DVD±RW IDE Drive Labelflash ReWriter
£19.99
GRAPHICS
