I have heard that a fully specced one (with the half leather seats, 19" alloys, metallic paint etc) could be around £29k.
They come with 19's as standard as far as I'm aware.

Very true. I consider the ST225 to be the new RS, it has similar styling and performance to the old car and the styling of the new RS is too garish.

I've no doubt the RS will kick the ST's butt. The RS won't be compromised in the way the ST is (comfort, ride quality etc). The ST is good - not quite up there with the Golf mind - but the RS will be different and better in a Sunday morning blast kind of way.

What you on about, the ST is one of the most comfortable hot hatches to be in, ride quality as std is unbelievably good as stated in pretty much every review of the ST from day one.

The complete opposite to my family mobile 2 year old Civic which is far too hard on the suspension and not very comfy.

Initial RS reviews suggest it has a much harder ride than the std ST, but even my lowered Eibached ST is very comfy, enough to send my son and dad in law off to sleep in the back yesterday round Derbyshire.

Dream - Im guessing Moose is referring to the fact the ST 'is' comfy so therefore there is a compromise in handling whereas the RS will probably have rock hard suspension etc.

That's the pont he was making. The ST is designed to apear both to Boy racer, and Family man. Fast yet comfortable.

The RS will be a lot rawer in comparison. Less forgiving over humps and bumps. Not designed to be a everyday family car for a comfy drive to the coast.

Ah I see, comfort & ride quality was being seen as a negative

I wouldn't be too sure the RS will be that compromised. My own ST is lowered on Eibachs which in theory should make for a bumpier ride, but it's not really any worse than it was as std even though the wheels sit almost in the arches now!! Handling is much improved though, and body roll gone.

Sounds like Ford have dropped a clanger then, doesn't it. Just should have taken an ST, stuck some Eibachs on it, bought an aftermarket ECU upgrade, and stuck an RS on the back.

You should give them a ring. Show them how it should be done.

I was sticking up for the RS in that reply, my point being if my lowered ST is still very comfy, then the RS will probably be the same, lovely handling, low, but still a nice ride and comfortable.

A modded ST will be just as quick real world than the (std) RS, but the RS will have the badge and the OTT looks if that's your thing, and that is my thing btw, not me taking the ****. I like the look of the RS so far, although it's a little high on the suspension.

If I could justify buying an RS I would, but at 4-5k miles a year it would be sat doing nothing way too much, I may test one though.

Yes exactly. Nothing wrong with the ST, it is placed for a certain market where there are compromises and that's not a bad thing. The RS is aiming for a different market which demands less compromises and will no doubt be more hardcore, less forgiving etc

It's a funny post, but in reality probably not that far from the mark.

Doesn't everyone on SN reckon that orders for the RS are being cancelled left, right and centre?

As far as I'm aware the first years build allocation has gone to those who have already ordered. Highly unlikely there will be any demonstrators because of this although I know of a dealer that will probably be having one so I'll certainly be having a go.

It will be interesting to see how many are sold in 2010.

Where have you been Jacey

But it has to be said that this car has seemingly attracted nothing but controversy, even after early test drives, whereas if it had 4WD it would go straight to the top of many folks' wish list. Including mine. Price wouldn't be an issue either.

And these forums would be full of people discussing ways to get 400bhp, which shouldn't be hard. It could be such a great car

Its controversial on a Subaru forum as people here are used to being nannied by AWD

Very different on the Focus forums though, with plenty of users picking theirs up in March.

See I agree as above, if it had been 4wd it might have prised away scoob owners, well a few anyway

If they'd made it AWD, they'd have prized alot of people away form their Impreza's and Evo's.

They'd have also won sales from previous Cosworth owners wanting a replicate their Fast Ford owning day's.

They could have easily charged more for it too. Look at the price of Evo's. £37k for the FQ360.

£30k for a AWD RS would have been about right. Maybe have upgrade kit's for it too.

Shame. They lost my £30k.

Not as if they don't need sales badly either.

Will it really be all that bad though? There's often talk on here about souped up FWD cars taking on & beating M3's & RS4's ...

I heard they're on Privilege (25% discount), D-Plan and tax free to Military personnel. That'll make sure they'll sell. A member of the Focus ST club who is in the forces based in German was offered a brand new RS for £20750. Privilege customers need to keep their cars for 9 months so I can see a few entering the second hand market. This might have some effect on residuals.

Got to be a kick in the teeth for Joe Public who will be paying £27k.

They are knocking £2k off I think for Pirvilege customers, I don't think they are doing military discount on it though.

That's cool then, defo agree with forces discount, latest on STOC was that there was no military discount due to it being a ltd edition.

Of course it does mean the residuals for Joe Public will be massively hit again as they have been for the ST now the military cars have flooded the 2nd hadn market

£24995 down to £23785 is only a 4.85% discount so hardly worthwhile but better than nothing.

The tax free price of £20500 is only for those in the forces in Germany.

If I were offered a brand new RS for £20k it would be my default choice, 300bhp, 3 year warranty etc. but I have no interest in it as a private (new) buyer.

Not a chance of legendary status, with FWD. For that they needed to AWD or RWD. Plus it's a great engine, but not fords own.
