a51 had the wit to keep queit right up until he got rumbled
He didnt though; did he? He should have said nowt on SN, rather than starting a thread only to lie in, whilst there was another thread that hed started on the forum asking about his FUBARd rear diff. Fail.
could a diff knock mean there is lack of oil in it or something???
it doesnt knock that much when i go straight..
it knocks when i reverse, start at a junction, going left or right...
mechanic told me its only going straight, nd it knocks when u try to turn one wheel more than the other, going forward.....

If it's any help, you can call in with us and we'll give it the once over and see if we can pin down exactly what the noise is, then you can decide what to do. We'll at least identify which diff ratio you have, should you need one.
No obligation to buy anything from APi. It might just be something daft like the big nut loose on the end of the drive shaft, in which case a few turns of a big spanner and it'll be cured.
Don't hold you breath, but stranger things have happened.

Well you can't all turn up at the guys house now and do anything as you've posted it on a public forum now, lol. I'm not sure getting aload of Impreza's filled with fork wielding baddies will help anything
Turn up at his house, and explain to him he's in the wrong, he owes you money and he's been publically caught out. If he doesn't comply then tell him you'll report him to the correct authority and it would be alot easier to just work with you on the problem. Beforehand get a mechanic to properly check it over and diagnose the problem and note it down with a contact number so the original seller has visual proof of this, He'd have no option other than telling you where to politely go, or to comply with you. Either way it's his fault, he most certainly owes you money and you deserve to be compensated rightly!

Plenty of keyboard warriors present on this thread. Its just one of those ones, i bought a Transit 350 recently & the guy described it as minted 08 plate with 5k on the clock, yeah it was until the EGR valve went on it, its a typical fault & was covered under warranty, i didnt post on the local transit forum whinging about it.
Private sales are what they are, at least if you buy from a dealer you have some sort of warranty ...... people forget this when the whinge about dealer prices being a few bits of tuppence more.
See my point ??

at the end of the day, the seller was wrong to sell on a car that he knew was dodgy, stupid to the post about his 'problem' when he had previously offered info that there was something wrong with his car, but the buyer should of checked the car out more thoroughly, and like others have said its a diff it takes about 2 hours (my speed) to change one and they cost no more than £50, like others have said it could of been worse like 10 mins down the road and the bottom end gives way costing the buyer a grand or more
Fair enough. But just because the repair isn't expensive doesn't make it okay! You must be the most calm person on planet earth GC8 if stories like this don't push your buttons.

Underworld, have you checked if this car has DCCD or not?

It seems to me that the seller knew about the fault. But the buyer should take all steps to assure himself of the vehicle before purchase ... which means a test drive of longer than 5 minutes.
It is the buyers fault - but the seller should really offer some compensation as goodwill IMO.

?? Whatever next
Violence shouldn't solve it, the fact that a large majority of SN members and also the buyer being an active SN member well known on here, and all that embarassment etc on here should be torture enough! knock his door man, and speak to him
I think you should find out exactly what is wrong with the car then take it from there. There seem to be plenty offers of help coming in. I get the feeling the chap you bought it off isnt going to come good,so take advantage of the offers and put this one down to experience. I havent been on this forum very long but the majority seem top people.
and regardless of the rights and wrongs of the situation, the LAW takes a very dim view of such practices..which are usually accompanied buy hefty fines or long sentances..
As the cost of the repair is close to the cost of the fuel to go back to huddersfield, i cant see why anyone would want to go back there having already been once.
The offence being commited here is called "demanding money with menaces"

Okay okay, point taken lads. I don't want to upset anyone, just my opinion.
