having been driving on a 6spd on my other car everyday I now like the box.. but feel I am forever changing gear..
I just like the 5spd.. it is straight cut box and I like the noise too
there is the weight to consider too.

Depends really on how much torque you want to run. If it's anywhere near 450lb ft... AND you drive the car 'enthusiasticaly' most of the time, then for me, the 6-sp has got to be the no-brainer option.
Just means you'll have to run more power/torque to offset the extra 30kg (but at least you'll know it'll be strong enough.... and then some! ).

I can see where your comming from TBH, Im puzzling over which one to get when the time comes myself, I dont want to change the characteristics of the classic by fitting a six speed although the extra strength would be nice, but then again lugging around an extra 30 or so kilos comes with it`s own disadvantage, If only the PPG kits were rated that wee bit higher it would be a no brainer for me
I think I need to try and hawkeye 6spd as the ratios are much nicer..
the recent change to 215/45/17 on the classic has lengthened the gearing and if anything has calmed down the torque steer and grip feels higher but it doesn;t have the same rapid feel too it.. time for more power

the most amusement was an M3 driver who did typical bmw driver and sat on bumper and flashed whilst I was in the outside lane overtaking, no where to go and I was passing other cars, if I had been sat in outside lane with other lanes empty then fair enough but I don't do that.. so I dropped it a gear.. within speed limit of course.. then pulled in and slowed down.. he gave an embarressed wave of thanks.
The colour is such a marmite colour.. comments are always funny.. and always about the colour.

JDM 6 speed is very good for track use, having used it all last year, i only ever had one corner where i could never find a decent gear, 2nd was too lively and 3rd was too laggy. Although i do think the forrester/uk hawkeye box has better all round ratios.
The PPG i am using in the 6 speed on the banana is mega long ratios, with 120 attainable in 3rd!

Anybody got a link to a table of all the gear ratios for Imprezas through the years, and Foresters?
Having gone for a built 2.5 in what was a 2.0 '05 JDM STi, I'm already aware that the gears aren't quite right - and once it's up to 450+ bhp/lbft I think it will be even more obvious. So, thinking ahead, it would be useful to know what might be a better set of ratios. That way I can keep an eye out in For Sale etc

I think i am 75% up on humilitating scoobs in the M3, and 100% up on humiliating M3's in the scoob
