NS04 - couldn't agree more. I think the point that many struggle with though, is why Pete is allowed to post under different usernames when he has previously been "permanently" banned. Personally i'm not bothered, but i don't think anybody's ever written an unfudged reply to that fairly simple question.

Tel,

Noted, I'll ask Stu to respond to this to give the definitive word. Not being a techie, I simply don't know what process has to be gone through before one can ban an ID for being an alias account.

Ta,

I thought I'd sort of answered that, at least as best as I could.

PS Lewis was banned by Simon. Pete now posts under the SSU account, which yes it is still the same person, but is being allowed to post freely here under the new Admin. Stu is not responsible for previous perma bans, and if someone has set up a new account to post, and is behaving/playing by the rules, then they will not be banned under new user names. Stu has started with a clean slate, and is getting to know users (regardless of name) for himself. So long as people behave, I believe the past is just that.

Tbh, I doubt Pete is the only banned member posting under another name, and so long as they are not causing harm, then that will continue. It would take forever to trawl through and work out who is who, so the fairest way to proceed, is to let everyone just enjoy the site, and deal with issues if or when they arise.

As Stu has mentioned previously, looking at 'real' names, or unbanning certain members is not a top priority, but I'm sure it will be adressed at some point. Nobody wants to stop people posting here, or stop enjoyment, we just wish that people would get on with having that enjoyment, and stop getting hung up on negatives, or getting into fights with those they don't like.

I think at times, people forget us mods are users too, and we want to enjoy the site, as we did previously, and just as much as any of you guys.

That's fair enough, Lisa. But Stu should then delete ALL permanent bans and level the playing field. It wouldn't take long and we'd all know where we stand.

Maybe, I don't know how complicated that all becomes, and this issue has been adressed, so once there is a clear answer, you will know.

No permanent bans have so far been deleted as such, but people banned posting under a different account has so far been allowed, new slate and all that. Pete will not be the only one. Obviously as said, provided no rules are being broken.

I think the easiest way to solve all this would be to invite PSL and UB to get together in a small padded room and let them sort it out, big men with handbags style.

The rest of us then carry on posting in their absense and we shall see who won by the appearance of one or the other

My alternate suggestion was to put their names on each other's ignore list and lock their profile so they can't change it

The answer is in the post above yours ! This one ..

You don't actually HAVE to reply at all ! If he winds you up, don't post on his threads. He is like Feste from Twelfth Night, and, as Malvolio succinctly put it 'unless you minister occasion to him, he his gagg'd'. Why on earth all the PSL haters have to follow him round berating him is a total mystery ...

The Shakespeare bit went over my head but I'd agree with the sentiment.

Trouble is, he's a bright bloke who knows EXACTLY which buttons to press to get a reaction. If you've seen it before, you realise before it's too late, and don't respond...........that's assuming you are sober, awake, alert etc etc.

Reminds me of a naughty kid that knows JUST how to get a rise out of his parents..........

On this occassion, Pete is having a little time on the naughty step, for stepping out of line, and biting against certain people goading him. What you need to remember, is another user also was banned for doing exactly the same to Pete. So this has not been done to attack Pete, but it goes both ways, when people won't play nice. I'm sure Pete isn't losing sleep over this, and hopefully understands why this was done.

Quite honestly this sniping between certain members, is not only childish, and boring, but takes up quite alot of time dealing with. As has already been said on this thread, it would be quite nice if people could just get along. If that is me being mad, fair enough, then as I asked recently, could certain people just ignore each other instead?
I have no idea what SSuP said in order to get banned so am not in a position to comment about that in particular.

I do agree with what Lisa says about petty feuds and sniping between some members and it is indeed childish. Nothing wrong with a straight statement of fact providing it is valid or a sensible reply of course. All part of a forum's basic purpose in most ways.

Of course if some have differences which they cannot resolve, maybe because of personality clashes, than as Lisa suggests, it is better just to back off.

Also, one should always remember: it's just the internet; it's hardly representative of someone's behaviour in the real world.

You may think someone is the biggest A hole in the world on here, but if you bumped into them in the outside world, they might be exactly the kind of person you'd go for a pint with.

VERY little, if anything, anyone says is on here amounts to much, or is worthy of getting yourself in a state about......that's the painful truth for those of us who spend far too much time on here lol!

I'm on lewis's ignore list already. This is nothing to do with me 'goading' him at all so please leave my name out of it.

So, let me get this straight. Lewis gets a second account banned for trolling but the proposal is now to un-ban all of his accounts as a result?

That's just rewarding disruptive behaviour. Very trendy 'nu' thinking though. There are clearly minds much greater than mine at work here.

Having been there and got the t-shirt. I think the mods acted in the appropriate manner.

It gives you time to cool off

I'm sure like me, pete will fully support the reasons for his temp ban

It's not a perma-ban as before and there are other accounts for other people that have been banned as well.

As to the proposal: well for the moment it is just that. The problem is that if you unban some and not all, you get complaints of favouritism and if you unban all, you get complaints of letting the trolls back in, so you ban none and get complaints of inflexibility and not listening to people.

This is Stu's Gordian Knot.

SSU is mostly harmless, I like the variety of opinions on here, I may fume at some, and agree with others, but it's only the internet... If I was really offended I'd be off to 22B.com !

I think PS should have his account back .... IMHO

I think he brings a lot to scoobynet and is one of the reasons I read it, It does get a little dull around here without him

Ex-Webby said many times that its the user account that gets banned not the person

Same could be said for Onan, Karl, Neverguess, Manda Po all who recieved perma bans on their main account not the person themselves, however Manda & Neverguess's bans seem to have expired quite some time ago

Some people really like to have their known usernames, hence the reason you have asked many times about Karl & Onan being unbanned, but why should that matter because they recieved permanent bans but you want them lifted, yet they are still free to post under one of their many other usernames

Most of what he posts is designed only to wind people up: good riddance to him. He has his normal user-name where he doesnt act like a ****, which he should stick to.

Further to that: I think that it isnt particularly fair to blame UB and Jye for constantly mocking PSL. You have to remember that this user has pulled their chains for years previously and this seems to be being disregarded by everyone.

You've answered your own question, Steve. People like their own usernames, that's why it matters. Banning a username in isolation is just bloody ridiculous.
