I had a newage STI remapped and plenty of uprated parts on it, and I got bored of that, although it was an alround awesome car.

I sold the STI and opted for a daily deisel car and a classic [RB5] that I have been modding and fiddling with for the last 9 months and I love it.

It's not just the driving the car that I enjoy, it's the whole maintenance and ownership thing aswell. It's a hobby now.

good to know i'll be honest though i'm not bored of the car as it is, it's great, i'm just a bit bored of owning a car like it. dunno if that makes sense?

i don't do track days and don't seem to get the urge for going out for a few hours for a blast, so it's just used as an A to B car and i'm thinking that could be done in anything.

had a little blat back home this morning and it brings back the grin for sure, but then i know i'll be just pootling around in it for the rest of the week

And a nodding dog, and two cushions, a flat cap and a pipe....

Sorry !

I would have thought that a quick blast would have cheered anyone up.

I'm stuck at work yet again, probably be dark by the time I leave, so it won't get washed.

the car doesn't cost me alot as i don't really do many miles, but i'm sure the cost of motoring could be brought down with a more sensible car.

even thinking about a diesel octavia or maybe a VRS

i dunno, i love the scoob but i'm coming round to the idea of liking a few grand in the bank a bit more at the moment

i guess i need a bit of reasuring, c'mon scoobynet faithfull help me out
Once you have got yoiur Subaru right, you will lose too much on the mods to make it's sale worthwhile.

Make perfect sense to me, I am feeling the same at the moment. I generally change my cars in the new year and yet again I am getting itchy feet. I am getting a bit bored with the stigma that is atttched to the scoob. If I do sell it I know I will want one back due to missing the sound/driving experience and outright power.

I would dearly love to get a RS4 but they are just too expensive for me, so would probably get a S4 instead. A M3 does not float my boat at all, although it is a quick car. Can't really think of much else that would get me excited like the scoob does. I am looking for something that is quick but also has some creature comforts too.

Not sure what to do

I sold my modified classic to make way for a Zafira Gsi.

I was a little bored of the Subaru but only really sold it due to having my third little one on the way, im not regretting it the Zafira suits my needs better.

It was fun to be able to have a quick blast in my Impreza but that was few and far between.

My view point is if something else would suit your needs better then chance are you wont miss your Impreza, but if its just because your "bored" then chances are you will regret it!

Did think of getting rid of mine for a Jaguar X Type, Until my son convinced me I would not be happy in one and he was right, So he took it to his bodyshop did the bad stone chips on the front added some new 17" alloys and a full crystal light pack without me knowing, and I was back in love with my Scoob

I had my 93 wrx, got a bit bored as id done all I could without spending silly money.
Id always wanted a Skyline so I went and bought a nice R32 gtst with loads of peformance bits on, its great, very fast but I can't get to grips with rwd so I went and bought a V3 sti RA

It was like coming home being back in an Impreza

p.s the Skyline is for sale btw.............(free plug )

I started stripping mine last year ready to sell, sold half the bits and then could not go through with it.

I bought a mk3 16v astra GSI thinking that would do the job but it came nowhere near what an impreza feels like to drive.

Gave me a good reason to buy a Simtek ecu and few other goodies. I just couldn't part with it when push came to shove.

I only drive it the odd day in summer but each time I do it puts a massive smile on my face, it's so additive blasting down the country lanes around here.

I know one day it will go but finding a replacement will not be easy - bike powered westfield maybe?

thanks for your advice guys, still none the wiser what to do had a few PM's about the potential sale of the car so it might go-ahead.
dunno really yet though, i guess i'm more worried about trying to find one as good if i go back to scoobies, seems to be a lot of people who move away then come back

Ive never been bored with the Scoob, its difficult to be bored with a car that does what it does so well. Never been bothered about its image, I drive it because it puts a big smile on my face.

I will only change to a faster car, been looking for a nice 04 Audi S4 Avant, as a new daddy this would ferry us all around in a bit more luxury!

I am at the same stage with the question should get rid or not and the option i was considering is going for luxury with a bit of economy...big diesel BMW or Diesel Jag..good performance( 0 to 60 at around 7 sec and 50+mpg) very cheap cars at the moment..

Was seriously thinking about a BMW 330d after using one on a driving course-i absolutely loved it.
However,i might just wait for the STi diesel to come out after reading the article in total impreza.Providing they dont bugger up that concept too...

I find when driving my 05sti you never truly relax, its like your always on edge if you know what i mean. Also having a 360bhp motor which never see's a track to release its real true potential sometimes can seem a little pointless at times. The stigma and rep surrounding the car plus the fact you can't leave it parked anywhere without being paranoid it will get stolen, starts to p!ss you off after awhile. I also own an 07 A4 3.0TDI V6 Quattro Sport and after having it mapped recently, along with eibach coilovers has resulted in an awesome car. The car has quattro 4wd drive but also all the creature comforts, heated leather, satnav/dvd/mp3/bluetooth, padleshift/trip/auto, bose etc. Has great performance (**** loads of torque) and still returns 40mpg. Great everyday car with awesome looks to match...a perfect replacement for the scooby?? the more i drive my Audi the more I think is it worth keeping the scooby, however It feels great jumping in after a week or so and feeling that rush of power, awesome exhaust note, whisp of the HKSSQV and awesome handling only the scooby can bring! Always puts a smile on my face

I've found getting a new exhaust always makes a car feel fresh again. If you're on a stock exhaust something a little more fruity might be just what you need.

When i bought my first scoob a new MY04WRX I got bored within 100 miles because of the running in and no burble so an exhaust was bought (Ninja) and fitted at it's first service, This was fine for about another 2 thousand miles then the strut braces went on, The quick shift, the Green panel filter, the STi spoiler, the STi Scoop, I was contemplating 18" wheels for quite a while, and then realised i needed to regroup my thought's, my senses and my financial acumen. So I bought this

It cured the problem, I'm trying t
o say if you are a scoob nut you will not be happy with anything else but you will still tinker.

the exhaust is well and truly sorted mate for my taste anyway

all tinkered out simspons
really tried with this one to keep it sort of standard/as subaru wanted it, to hopefully have a wider audience when it comes to selling. i changed so many little bits on my old classic that i think it narrowed the market a bit.

there's a few bits i could muck about with, but i can't be arsed going through the extra expense of taking it all off again when i sell up.

i'm quite happy with how it is. well, bored but happy

I tried the same thing a couple of years ago in order to try and save money on car running costs. I bought a BMW 330d which would slip and slide and the traction control light would flicker just at the sight of a light drizzle of rain, driving normally, (would not happen in a Subaru), it got stuck on a grass verge in suburban London, and 6 people had to push the car off the grass verge, (would not have happened in a Subaru), and it developed a big oil leak, as well as an electrical fault where when the brakes were applied, both my rear indicators would illuminate............all this in the space of 6 months, that's why I sold it. Also tried a Clio 182, flawed driving position, I mean badly flawed, unless you're lucky enough to have very long arms out of proportion to the length of your legs, and not that economical in comparison to a Subaru.

I'm on my 7th Impreza now since 2003, and they are the most totally utterly reliable car I have ever owned, the engineering is amongst the best, the handling is still unbeateable by most cars today.....look at the recent write up on that Focus ST Mountune, where it says 'even on a dry road, the car struggles for grip whlist driving hard'.

Difficult decision moving away from an Impreza for very many logical reasons.

Audis? Every write up on all there cars, except the £50,000 plus cars, say that they do not provide driver enjoyment. BMW's? Buy one if you want to pay a minimum of £200 every time you say hello to the BMW service department. Mercedes Benz? Buy one if you still are under the illusion that today, the 3 pointed star equates to unrivalled quality, because it doen't.

Finally, read Warranty Direct articles, they cover all the warranties on most of the new cars sold in the UK. they will clearly tell you all the makes that have one or more warranty claims during the first 3 years of the cars life, and Subaru definitely is not one of them!

you're bang on with the reliabilty greg, that's been one of the joys of scooby ownership
in ten years and 3 scoobs all that's ever gone wrong are the rear struts on mine and a cam belt tensioner on my old classic and that could be classed as a consumable item really!

i know what you're saying about mercs, my mate had one (forget which model, the gay boy little soft top one) and he had no end of problems. looked like stevie wonder put the interior together aswell. shockingly bad.

I think that you should buy Top Gear magazine read the reviews narrow it down to a few or as many models as you fancy, Take them out on extended test drives narrow it down a bit more, Ring Hertz and hire them on long weekend's. And after all that on the Monday morning take the Scoob to work and just smell the coffee. I am trying to help you
