I still can't believe that 24.1 per cent of people in this country still smoke, surly these people are at the bottom end of the society ladder and thus we don't want them to stop, this way the government would save £0000's in Dole money and such like as there quicker deaths and decreased chance of giving birth to more 'low life' is massively increased.

what i am trying to say is there are people addicted to cigarettes, the same people that smoked them when there were no health warnings available. had they been given the information we have these days some of those people would never have started smoking.

Have you tried? Surly you are not doing it for the feeling, you are doing it to stop a craving (that is all in your head) for a drug.

It is a fact that its bad for your health, it is a poison.
If a Doctor said to you, take this pill and you will never want or need to smoke again, would you take it?
Would you agree that you need to lie to yourself everyday in a vain attempt to justify what you do? If someone said that the next *** you smoke will trigger lung cancer in your body, would you smoke it? This is the risk you run everyday
I tried a pill to try and make me stop, unfortunately I ended up having a suspected fit, and even the doctors advice was to try again when I was ready. They didn't think the pill was worth the risk. Oh and I don't lie to myself everyday, I just don't think about it right now, hopefully one day, I will find the inner strength to give up.
Smokers don't happily smoke anyway, **** create a void that never existed in the first place, not fill one.
Possibly, it's a habit we get into, and is harder to break than I'd like it to be. That may be down to lack of willpower, I accept that. Tbh, many people will have started before they new the risks, and I'd imagine most would stop if either they believe it is so harmful, or if it was really easy.
But you are still trying to argue to a point, about something that you do but have no idea why you do it? Can you sort of see my point/?

I know why I do it in terms of habit, and in terms that it is my way to relax, de-stress etc. That isn't a good reason, but it is mine. If I could just stop, I probably would, but I admit I can't. My Dad, for example, is one person I never thought would quit, but one day out of the blue, he just threw them away, and never looked back, used nothing to help him. As a smoker, you have to come to a point like that, by yourself, and not because of what others want generally.
Yes I sort of see where you are coming from, the only issue I really had any problem with was you assuming smokers are from the bottom of the social scale, that's not fair.

I think the best way to get smokers to stop is for society to think they are disgusting so the smokers actually take a step back and have a look at themselves and realise what they are doing (i.e not try to make out smoking is nice, a pleasure etc) and ultimately stop.

I agree, it wasn't, but smokers are aware of the health risks, know that it costs them £140 a month minimum (20 a day), know that it makes them smell unpleasant, summer months are a nightmare in an office environment, know that is socially unaccepted but they continue to do it.

I smell just fine
Costs me around 40quid a month, thats smoking 20 L&B a day
Im a student and a decorator, bingo caller by night, DJ at weekends, office environments dont bother me
Im fully aware of the healthrisks printed over each pack, yet I still would like to smoke. Im aware I may die younger, then again I drive a really fast subaru impreza and i know i may die from driving that, yet i will still drive it. I play Ice hockey and i know full well i could break my neck, back, die from a hit to the head etc, yet ill still play. I DJ in clubs and may well be piled upon by many fit women in a mad rush, and seriously hurt myself, but ill do it anyway lol

Bar outside, or smelling people, most non smokers now go uneffected by those who do. Live and let live.
Do we attempt to ban drink completely because some go over the top, and cause trouble, usually to far more than any smoker could, not to mention the harm they can do to themselves?
