Get fined for dropping a fag butt and the NHS will pay your fine!

just read this. cant believe it will work, people will just use it to get their cash back surely :wonder:

Quit and NHS pays! - Portsmouth Today

JPL 08 December 2008 04:35 PM

"All smokers have to do is sign up to an NHS stop smoking programme and stay off the fags for four consecutive weeks, at the end of which they will be tested for carbon monoxide."

4 weeks of no smoking for £65? I used to smoke, and I wouldn't have done that... unless I was actually trying to quit

Sounds like a good idea

sarasquares 08 December 2008 04:39 PM

its too easy

i think you only have to be off the fags for a few days to get a clear reading/

if this scheme covers most of the UK then the NHS are going to lose some serious much needed cash that could be better spent on helping people that really need it :(

JPL 08 December 2008 04:45 PM

Hmm.. no idea how long it stays in your system, but even a few days of no smoking... I could never have done that, I used to smoke 30 a day.

If you are addicted you are addicted... (until you quit)... I can't see that many people trying to dick the system for £60 by not smoking for a few days, maybe some can turn their addiction on and off?

sarasquares 08 December 2008 04:47 PM

its not too difficult to stop for a few days. when people give up its always the first week thats easiest

ash002004 08 December 2008 04:59 PM

They're offering rewards for smoking but can't spend that money cleaning up the hospitals? :(

dpb 08 December 2008 05:03 PM

I still can't believe that 24.1 per cent of people in this country still smoke, surly these people are at the bottom end of the society ladder and thus we don't want them to stop, this way the government would save £0000's in Dole money and such like as there quicker deaths and decreased chance of giving birth to more 'low life' is massively increased.

imo

Unfortunately you're wrong. There are plenty of well educated people that still smoke.

Now been 17 months off the cigs, and never going back. :)

tanyatriangles 08 December 2008 06:27 PM

So can you apply to stop if you never started? then claim the £65 after 4 weeks?
