I am not saying go and hammer the Visa .
yeah know what you're saying njkmrs, but the amount of money people 'have' has been an illusion for the last 10 years - it's mainly been debt, and the bubble has now popped. People need to spend in their means like you say, but realistically this means spending far less than they have been doing, and obviously a lot of retailers will go under as a result.

In countries like the UK we've all been driving flash cars, 40" plasma at home, wearing designer clothes and working mainly in 'service sector' jobs, yet in China and other developing countries they're often living without electricity even, and working in factories making products for us.

There is going to be a lot of rebalancing IMO - their living standards will rise as they start consuming more of their own products, and ours will fall as our currencies devalue and we have less spending power in the global economy as a result.

Yes your quite right .People have thought oh my house is worth X so i can borrow against that,I am rich .
I did not expect house prices to fall like they are ,I must admit, but I have spent in line with what I could afford at the time ,and will continue to do so .
If people get sensible then they have a chance of getting through .

But many will learn a hard lesson .

Same at our place. Some bloke still has the shares from a few years back, I cashed mine in and doubled my money (20k) whilst he's looking at a grand for his 10k imput.

I wanted to get mine when they were at 25p but had to wait for the funds and the account to be set up. There's more redundos at our place, named next week.
