To say that driving an HGV is not difficult is a foolish remark, that would only be made by someone with no idea at all what they were talking about.

Its interesting how many of the above comments seem to point at truck drivers being at fault, for all those people you should spend a few hours in the cab of a truck where you can see all the car drivers at fault!
agreed but be honnest how many of the trucks you mentioned ater still regular everyday trucks anymore
If anyone on scooby net gets hit by a pegaso troner make shure you do the lottery the same day as you are definatly defying all odds

nothing nurses do in my oppinion is as tough as driving an artic 50 hours a week and that dont include waithing or unloading or sleeping in the truck 5 nights a week getting little sleep and then dealing with people who have no idea the danger their in around these things so we have to drive for them too..moving an artic isnt difficult spending a week in the saddle is another thing altogether..i have the most respect for nurses by the way but i know given a choice what id sooner do if i could and it wouldnt be driving a truck

I work upto 80 hours a week both physically and mentally driving between 9 and 10 hours a day in all weather conditions, and just to put a lid on it at least 70% of other road users have no idea how to behave around my vehicle. 55 foot long, 14 foot high, 8 foot wide and 44 ton FFS Please drive with care
It may be flippant but it was accurate to the driver who didn't indicate and nearly ran me into the central barrier. Likely not to every lorry driver, obviously.

Nothing against you or your profession as i respect anyone who works hard and long hours as i do the same.

On a side note I used to have my hols in Skeg when i was little I spent a fortune on Yie Ar Kung-Fu where the old fair used to be.

One of my best memories was going on the old vector star wars game and hearing "The Force will be with you. Always"

Pretty amazing for a 6 year old!

An argument about whose job is hardest isnt constructive: sufice to say that driving an HGV is far from the stroll in the park that some foolish members seem to think.

I did say it required a lot of skill in my post. The definition of what some constitue as being 'tough' seems to have caused feathers to fly which is fair enough as everyone has a point of view and this place wouldnt be what is is without that.

I never run alongside a lorry - I either speed up and pass or I hang back. Yes, I may have the right of way and all that, and it is very inconvenient to have to drive for the lorry as well as my car, but by now everyone should know lorry drivers do not have 360 degree vision and, just like other road users, they sometimes make mistakes!

laws are changing regarding wideangle mirrors on hgv's effective of 31 march 2009 so hopefully accidents like this will be reduced

Quick update.

The RB5 was picked up today to go off the repair centre

So I am now driving this hire car, for the time being

Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 Life, with a rumbling wheel bearing! Its made me think how good the RB5 is to drive though.

i drive an artic for a living and tbh most car drivers are just plane arrogant and have no respect for us truckers, it always seems to be a race if a car driver can see an artic indicating to come across a lane usually its im not letting him out so i will floor it and make him brake really hard and proper cause an accident!! tail gate when using 2 lanes to cross a roundabout then get the finger when overtaking!! if car drivers had a bit more respect truckers would do the same, i am very cautious of the tossers that hang you out in the middle lane and just sit in your blind spot!! yet it always seems to be us that get a raw deal, the country would come to a stand still if it wern,t for us!! give truckers more room and make life easier and safer for all of us, remember if you bought it a truck brought it.

Very good advice, its what I do: I never stay alongside a HGV for any longer than I absolutely need to; Stay out of harms way and you'll minimise the risk

Default The RB5 has returned

Got RB5 138 back this morning 8)

I had forgotten what the RB5 was like to drive, steering felt heavy but responsive, how near you sit to the windscreen, how close and tight the gearbox is and that's without putting my foot down

Had a good look at the repair and they have done a pretty good job (Nationwide in Stourport), I also got them to change my scabby o/s frong wing with a genuine wing that I have been meaning to fit.

The new wing minus decals

I was going to keep the rear end sticker free, looks nice and clean

But it is an RB5 so the new sticker pack had to be applied, much better than the faded original.

Probably the best the car has looked since I had it, so it turned well in the end, almost a month on from the collision.

I shall be giving HGV's a wider berth from now on

i suggest you come out for the day with a local haulage firm & see wot we have to put up with!
its not just foot to the floor on motorways & sticking to speeds that **** off other drivers,we run on different highway laws than car drivers, our max speed is 56mph on motorways 40mph on single track, thats not wot we want to do - its for your safety,on average i'm dragging 44tonne in my artic & that weight takes some stopping.
you moaned you had to brake at 70 to prevent an accident, you probably stopped from that speed pretty quick,in lorry traveling @ 56mph takes 3 times longer to stop,& if your stupid enuff to stay in the BLIND SPOT instead of accelerating up out of the way we wouldn't be stuck in the middle lane ALL the time! i understand it gets stressfull at times but if you learn one thing remember this.......IF YOU ARRIVE @ YOUR DESTINATION 5 MINS LATE BUT ALIVE,THEN YOU DID THE RIGHT THING HOLDING BACK
happy new year & safe driving to you all !!!!

Car looks cracking again dude! Looks better than new now

I have the upmost respect for truck drivers, I am good friends with a couple - but I have to admit I have seen so many near accidents because of poor driving or pure bullying tactics.

I was recenty behind a car that was passing a lorry up a hill, that lorry decided to pull out. He let the indicator flash about 3 times then pulled out anyway. The driver must have known the car was there as it had until about 30 seconds before been infront of the lorry stuck in a slower moving que of traffic.

I always lets trucks out of possible, and even I've almost been run off the road a few times because one has pulled out right infront of me without any warning
