Hi Ben,

I'm sorry but RobinSherwood just pipped you this morning (he posted at 12.12pm V's 12.46pm for yourself ), however, we need to confirm that there's no restriction on his 'car'.

So, if it's OK with you I'll put you down as 1st reserve..

Should know one way or the other tomorrow, but either way you could still be 1st reserve, just in case someone else bins their car before the event..

Good idea, BTW, sending the money straight to Greg, never thought of that..!

Jason

This is going to be a big gathering of spec.D's..!! Granted there's only 3 of us, but hey, that's not bad out of 300..!! Oh, and to you other spec.D drivers with your interesting mods, what're my chances of a short ride in your cars so I can compare it to my standard version to see what could be done with a bit of fettling (it may pull me away from the Cayman S's that have got my attention at the moment!)....?

Nige.
Looking forward to this, Well done Jason.

I think Robin is bringing a Ginetta race car - but his reply & piccy seems to have been deleted

No problem with a bit of car swapping with me. All I ask is just dip the clutch when going from the skid surface to normal tarmac.

Ooh, a Ginetta... That should be interesting to see on the low grip surface...!!

Regarding car swapping with ya Nick, I only meant for a short loop outside the facility or on the entry road and with you driving, not car swapping at the facility when you're having fun and learning your own car..!! I'm just intrigued as to the suspension differences and remap differences (esp to the throttle lag) as I've raised the questions before and am still none the wiser..!

Apologies for getting o/t, but I'm really looking forward to this....

Hi Nige,

As Nick said I am bringing our Ginetta race car but depending where abouts you are based I will happily take you out in my Spec D another time if you fancy a drive over to South Northamptonshire/Banbury area.

I think the pic was on the other thread so here goes the picture again for those that missed it.

Although it looks a bit different now as that shows it in 2008 spec and it is now in full 2009 Cup spec which includes aero so it now has a big carbon rear wing, front dive planes as well as bits you cant see such as a flat floor to the rear. (Mind you we might take the dive planes off depending on the depth of the water on the skid pan.....)

For those that don't know it is a Ginetta G50 GT race car, our car is currently in Cup specification though it can easily be converted to GT4 Spec to run in British GT or FIA GT and also into Britcar spec.

The G50 was launched in 2008 to commemorate 50 years of Ginetta cars, our car is Chassis 14 and we campaigned it in the 2008 Ginetta G50 Cup with some reasonable success for a team in our first year of operation.

The G50 was so competitive in the GT4 class of British GT that the teams running Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars threw their toys out of the pram and withdrew as they were unhappy about being beaten by a £35k plastic car

It weighs 950kg and has a 3.5 litre V6 (latest Ford US V6 prepped by Minister Motorsprt) and in Cup trim is limited by the locked ECU to 300bhp. It has a 6-speed sequential gearbox with flatshift, Ohlins racing suspension and Motec data logging.

In the skid pan we will be running Michelin race wets (the G50 uses the same Michelin race tyres, slicks and wets, as a Porsche Cup race car).

Hope that is of interest!

Kind regards,

Robin

Hi Everyone,

I have had a 'chat' with Jason about an idea to make the 28th a bit more of a day out.

There is a track day running on the day as well and as we will have the passenger seat fitted in the G50 for the day so the skid training instructor can sit in the car, I had the idea we could also offer some passenger rides in the morning for those that were interested.

I have spoken to Bookatrack who are organising the day and they are happy for us to do this. The downside is they will not sell me 1/2 a days track time so we would have to pay the £195 cost of the track day but on the plus side there will not make any additional charge for passengers.

I would aslo need to cover the cost of fuel and a small allowance for tyres etc but have said to Jason that I would do it without making the normal profit as we are going to be there anyway.

I would anticipate it would be 5 laps per ride so an Out Lap, 3 Flying Laps and an In Lap but we can revise this on the day as we will judge the laptime when we send the car out on warm up.

Obviously it is quite unusual to get the chance to ride in a contemporary GT racing car easpecially with a driver fo Tom's calibre at the wheel, so it should be quite an experience. Assuming it is dry we will run Michelin race slicks and as mentioned earlier in the thread we will be running the full aero pack so there will be downforce as well.

To give you all an idea we did a day of passenger rides for members of the Silverstone Racing Club at the end of last year and even members who had previously raced were blown away by the experience and in fact they are keen for us to run another day for them. The cost to them was £100 each and we could do this on the 28th for quite a bit less than that as we are going to be there anyway.

The actual cost will obviously depend on the number of people who want to ride in the car so if people would like to express interest we can see if this is going to be possible to do.

Any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards, Robin

Hi Jason,

You PM Inbox is full, payment sent via Paypal.

Everyone else.

Do I take it that there is very little interest in the passenger rides then?

I'm going to struggle to get there much before 11.30 as it is, although I would have thought it would have been more popular than this..!

It's a bit like trying to get this skid training off the ground. I thought we'd have been inundated with people wanting to 'test' their AWD handling, esp those with DCCD. After all there's enough posts about what does it do and when should it be adjusted..! In the end it was hard work..!

TBH, I think everyone's watching the pennies, so trying to sell anything at the moment is difficult..!

Well as I've said above if there's possibility for the AM goers I'd be in.

Jasonius huge thanks for arranging all this. It can't have been easy. Any word on what time the AM sessions need to arrive for?

Hi guys,

here's the basic timetable and details for the 28th Feb 2009:

Morning group (3 groups of 3) need to be at Rockingham in time for Sign-in/Scrutineering at 08:30.
Followed by briefing, with convoy transfer to wet grip area ~09:00

As I understand it the 3 groups will then rotate each 'discipline', having the same time for each.

12:00 - Debrief (wet grip)
------------------------------------------------------

Afternoon group (3 groups of 3) need to be at Rockingham in time for Sign-in/Scrutineering at 12:00.
Followed by briefing, with convoy transfer to wet grip area ~12:30

As above, each of the 3 groups will then rotate each 'discipline', having the same time for each.

15:30 - Debrief (wet grip)

------------------------------------------------------

Diner will be open for lunch/breakfast etc..

Book-a-track have a track day (as you're no doubt already aware), so the open pit lane will be very busy. Therefore, PLEASE be sensible about passenger numbers (ie keep it to a minimum..) and make sure they're aware of the possible dangers/hazards whilst around the pit lane area..!

Rockingham Motor Speedway

Tel: 01536 500500

Any problems getting there on the day (hopefully not..) either call the Rockingham number above, or my mobile on 0778 6142728..

I'll be refunding £13.50 on the day to those who initially paid £125 (below), so if you can make sure you hang around, keeping an eye out for me (I'll be wearing a pink carnation.. ). BTW try and make sure you have £1.50 in change..

Well never mind was only a thought, just means Tom and I get longer lie in on Saturday morning

If there is suddenly more interest and Bookatrack still have room we can always re-think.

A passenger ride day for Scoobynet members can always be arranged another time probably round the Silverstone GP circuit which is where we usually do it.

Damian who won a ride with us in the Prodrive Auction for the McRae Vision Charity seemed to enjoy himself........

Isn't your bro Rich..? I hope he is as I've got him down as that..

Just spoken to chief instructor (David) and he seems a top bloke, very relaxed about how we choose to run the day. I've left it with him to decide what he thinks we'll get most from.. He assured me we'll come away knowing a lot more about how our cars react and what to do to regain/keep control during those brown trouser moments..

Now I'm REALLY looking forward to it..

Some additional info:

Few people have asked about fuel, there will be fuel (petrol and diesel) available 10.00-11.00 & 12.30-13.30 at the circuit and apparently there are petrol stations on all approach roads near to the circuit..

Our instructors for the day are David (chief instructor) and Keith, who's an experienced rally instructor..

Finally, there will be a lunch break between am/pm sessions ~12:30 to 13:30. Each session will be 3hrs.
AM from 09:00 and PM from 13:30 aprox. However, I'd still like everyone from PM session to be there for 12:00 so there's no delay should lunch end early IYSWIM..?

In my experience fuel at race circuits is usually shockingly expensive so I would advise people to consider ensuring you have enough fuel before you arrive.

Thanks again Jason for all the effort in organising this. I would have been up for that passenger ride - both of us probably would have been - but we too are on the morning session. It seems everyone on the morning session would want it!

I see Robin mentions regular visits to the Silverstone GP circuit... well we're doing a track day there on 06 March (run by Circuit Days) so if he fancies a trip over there on that day, maybe we'd have another chance?

Is the sign-in / briefing in the same place as for the track day drivers ? Will they have our details on file there or is any reference needed ?
Any other requirements - driving licence etc ?
Assume no track-day insurance required since there will be little chance of colliding with anyone else (my normal insurance doesn't cover track use). ?
