Who is your ISP
Plus or Plusnet?
Pipex have been taken over by tiscali and I am now leaving! after 7 years of them being good they turned me off when they switched the accounts over to tiscali!! spent hours on the phone to indian call centres!!
was looking at plusnet, but not if they have been bought by tiscali!!

Must be a local thing with IDNet then as never experienced that with them ever. LLU is local loop unbundled where the ISP such as Be use their own equipment at the exchange and you go directly onto their network on a service called adsl2+ which gives bandwidth of upto 24mg depending on the distance you are from the exchange.
Go here to check your local exchange and see what services/isps are on it:
Samknows Broadband - Exchange Search

Another Zen customer here. Yes, they're a bit pricey, but customer service is damn-near perfect and the actual service never fails. What's more, there technical support is in this country and manned by people who actually understand the technical stuff, and don't just read from a script.

Plusnet arent owned by Tiscali, theyve been bought by BT. Force9/Plus.net were good for a long time, but now theyre on the skids. Im currently seeing a maximum of 30KB per second, which is equal to half speed on an old 512kbps line. This happens repeatedly.
I'm on Plusnet, and since BT bought them they have been excellent.
I get good speed, unlimited downloads and good support (on the rare occasions I need it).
However, you cannot get the package I am on any more and I don't think you can get unlimited downloads now.

I'm with Sky. No issues.
Prices are increasing next year though.
Intermediate package (upto 8Mb & 40gig cap) increasing from £5 to £10 a month and the unlimited package (upto16Mb and no cap) is increasing from £10 to £15 a month.
Thanks Sky

I have had Sky for about 3 months and its been ok, I pay £5/month on top of a TV package for their mid-level deal, but from what I have read the limits are rarely, if ever, enforced. I get ~7Mbps download and about 512Kbps upload and after some intial teething trouble its been solid ever since. They do inisist that you use their wireless router and not your own, but that's not a major issue as its a Netgear with custom firmware and lacks very little functionality for the average user.

Zen here as well, cost more but customer service is excellent when you need them
I use to also have NTL (Virgin Media now) cable at the same time, customer service back then was not good but connectivity and speed was excellent... Left them 6 years ago as service was rapidly going down hill...
