Oh, not to mention the bypass methods that 'do' work regarding ISP traffic shaping.

Dont even mention Peer Guardian

I jus use an ISP that doesn't do any shaping Yea sure older releases will be slow as there won't be many seeders, that's the nature of the beast. But as I tend to only grab new/recent stuff that is not an issue. £2 a week? mug

What ISP you with? I will guarantee your ISP has one

Surly 'Nature of the beast' is pure connectivity and 'whatever you want' ?

...at any time, maximum bandwidth?

But alas, the £2 covers security non the less, you are tracked on torrents, there is no law at present to govern this, but it can/will be clamped down on, it will be retrospective. (if caught)

Geez are you a usenet fanboy or something?

NewNet, yes all ISP's have some kind of shaping, what I really mean't was my connection is not heavily throttled. As a result I always max my line from popular torrents at any time.

hah you are not secure. Usenet is not protected from the law at all. Some content providers have already been investigated/prosecuted. This could eventually pan down to the users as well.

Probably yes.

I work in defence, specifically communications, if you can find someone with a degree in Computer Science or any other relevent field that does not agree with me, let me know.

??? to "protected" and "the Law"

Nope, you must be mistaken, not in the UK.

Its unmitigated speed, Torrents will never come close it.

Try download Londons Burning, broadcast between 1986 and 2002, see if you max your line speed then or indeed use any of it, this applies to any other abstract media you may want. The only reason people use Torrents is because it is a easier protocol to navigate, simple as that
rubbish, well some of that is. news groups are great, but have what 100 days retention? certain member only trackers have retention of years and have very obscure material.

you are right about them being convenient compared to newsgroups, use both for best of both worlds.

When did I mention the UK?? It's started in the US, the RIAA are already investigating several providers. It will only be a matter of time before it happens here.

Both protocols have their uses, but slating one over the other is just stupid. Especially when you don't really seem to know how effective torrents can be.
