I'm not sure what the score is - if it was Simon's full time job or whatever. But I still enjoy dipping into SN now and again and I think Simon did do a good and essential job of cleaning it up when it got really low brow and not a very pleasant place to visit. The legacy is of course infractions (which I have needed to use only once since they have been introduced) and that needs careful monitoring for abuse in the future. It was a solution though and has possibly saved the site from my pov.
Hope you made a few quid Simon & good luck. What's next (that's if you don't already have a 'day job'?)

Thanks so much again everyone. Its so nice to read these comments.
LOL, yeah that was a good fun day! 7 years on, and we've replaced that technology in WRC now, but the new system is based largely on those original systems, so you and a great bunch of other ScoobyNetters helped shape a system which has helped save lives on a number of occasion, and dramatically revolutionised all areas of the WRC.
'GET A LIFE'. LOL. This is my intention! I hope I can remember how!
One of the hardcore old-school originals! I loved writing about those early days in the (hopefully someday) to be released ebook about running scoobynet. We've seen a lot of changes, but its amazing how many of us really early guys are still around - if not visiting every day. I'm really proud to have been a part of something which has had such an impact on so many people's lives. Thank you
Thanks a lot D. It has been the toughest part of running scoobynet, but I also agree it was a 'best of a bad lot' solution, and the results can't be argued with. I must admit this is the biggest thing I'm releaved not to have to deal with anymore. I'm sure there were other ways to skin the cat, and maybe we'll see some alternative solutions. But I'm pleased to have handed over the community in substantially better shape than it was three years ago.
I run a number of small businesses, so I won't be getting any extended rest. I'm currently playing with a new experimental idea called Motor Social , which is a kind of social network for motoring enthusiasts. Not like a forum, but more like facebook. Early days, and more fun than anything currently (although I know where that ended up the last time I thought that!! ) and I'm not promoting it.. but its an interesting bit of fun anyway.
Other than that, I'm relaunching ScoobySport exhaust systems in the next few months with a big new change which I'm very excited about, putting in place way better customer service, delivery and pricing. I'm also looking for other ventures to get involved in, so if anyone has anything on the go, or knows of someone, please let me know.
Hehe! Step one is to train myself not to login and go straight to the scoobynet policy forum!

Thanks again everyone.
Off on holiday in the morning!

Thanks for all your hard work Simon I remember when you stepped in to rescue Scoobynet all those years ago
Your efforts, with the rest of the crew, have made this place a large part of my life and the same must be true for thousands of others who have met up through this site or recieved all the great advice that's available on here, and not just about Scoobies
I for one have enjoyed every minute of it
Long may it continue, but you deserve a rest

HI Simon,
On behalf on the entire Dorset Crtew i would like to thank you so much for all your hard work and determination through the years, up until about a yr ago, i was the meet organiser for Dorset, we now have our own forum, and whilst i'm not really involved i understand just how much time is involved in running a tiny (in comparison) forum, so sorting Scoobynet out must have been almost a fulltime job..... i dread to think of the hrs that have gone into making it what it has become......
Thankyou again....... and good luck with your business's, you'll have more time to concentrate on them now!!
All the best...
Ron.

Good Luck with everything Simon, no matter what's happened on SN over the past decade, the fact remains that it exists because of yours and Shaun's dedication and hard work. Yes the members make the forum what it is but without the forum, there wouldn't be members
IB have a very large pair of shoes to fill so lets hope they can be as dedicated as you guys have been.
All the best with your future plans
P.S. Did IB get the Scoobynet Yacht in the deal as well??

I would just like to thank you for all the hard work that you have done over the years
Scoobynet has been a big part of me for the last 8 and a half years
You have helped develop the subaru community so much by linking the various members together with most clubs having thier own active forums now
in the early days we had 3 members at Cumbrian scoobs and 7 at TTS now we have over 300 members and D&G have set up too and of course the NBO which without scoobynets help I dont know how we would of got so many cars in a field for the last 6 years raising over 30k for charitys and the other big events have all been linked and promoted through scoobynet
People come and go over the years but there is stil lots of us old 'hardcore boys'' out there as
Subarus are for life ,not just Christmas :
enjoy your retirement but Im sure you will be back !!

Best of luck Simon, and thank you for doing a great job on Scoobynet.
I have been on the forum since 1999, and my life has gone through huge transitions and changes in that time, from working down in Woking and enjoying the company of the Southern members, Telboy, Chuck etc to various life changes, marriage and becoming a dad.
Scoobynet had a large influence on my life, even though I never owned a Subaru (and still haven't). My business was started in 2001 as a direct result of the Scoobynet community, and it was contacts from here that enabled me to start out on my own. 7 years later I am still going strong and still have the same customer focused ethos that I started with back then.
I may not last forever in business, but Scoobynet and you yourself had a large part to play in that. We have spoken a number of times, and I have always found you a decent honest fellow that is easy to get along with.
I have met some great people on here, and I will continue to be a part of the community, even though I may not be here as much these days.
Again thank you for your hard work, and also thanks to Shaun and the moderators, I have met most of you throghout the years and a nicer bunch of people you could not meet elsewhere.

Hi Simon
I like many other bumped into you at track days and took part in the WRC equipment tests at Prodrive, some great days out. Was it really seven years ago?
I've not had a scoob for over six years but scoobynet has become a lot more than just a Subaru owners website. I've stayed a part of the community that you built up because its a great laugh at times and you can find advice on any subject on here from electronics to your love life (Although it's best to ignore most. )
Anyway thanks for everything and good luck in whatever's next.
Cheers

Simon - thank you for saving ScoobyNet and also for leaving before you completely ruined it.
Despite whatever run-ins we may have had in the past, I genuinely wish you all the best with your next project. Keep it real

Every best wish to you Simon I have tried to leave SN a few times over the years, as I spend too much time here. But I keep coming back to the great community you have nurtured so brilliantly.
We have spent some memorable times together and exchanged a few emails in the early hours. I'm glad you ignored most of my suggestions which would have killed SN stone dead
I will always remember those terrifying laps of Donno when you piloted my car with such extraordinary skill on the pedals It is the same car that Lewis Hamilton drove to pick up a Chinese in Stevenage a few years ago, so two World Champions have driven it now! Not many Scoobs can claim that
Best personal regards from me and Sally,
Richard.
