S.R., I think it would be easier for you to have your old map on a laptop.
On long trips load the 100% gasoline map for the ferrying and change to E85-map and fill up with your preferred mix at the 'ring or wherever.
If I ever get around to a mix-map thats what I'll do (which means no mix-mapp 'til I have a laptop with a working battery!)
A laptop is way ligther and smaller (and maybe more legal) than 20 lit. E85

Hmmm, yes maybe. It's a bit of a nuisance though...the ferry company have got back to me and said that any full cans of petrol or diesel will be confiscated if the port authorities do a check! But bioethanol isn't petrol or diesel so it might be OK?

e85 seems to be pretty well available in France and Germany.
So rather no need to carry it from UK in a bottle

I.e. - one of lists I found on google:
http://www.ethanol-tanken.com/index....5&list=1&cat=1

And France:
Ethanol-E85.fr : Carte Google Maps des 290 stations superéthanol E85 de France

As far as I remember from my quick research few weeks ago - it should be also available on selected stations in Holland?

Wicked. Looks like the Total and Carrefour garages on the way to Lille have it. So I'll just bring over empty jerry cans and fill up with as much as I want.

Aachen is the nearest (as answered on NL just now)

I tend to run low power map over there running on the 100 octane at the Aral in Adenau.

I am very Interested in Bio ethanol as I was up for a Methanol mix & remap. I have a hydra fitted & the car is mainly a track car so keeping / mixing fuel is not a issue.
Is Bio ethanol safer than Methanol ??? if both mapped correctly.

Another concern is Bio ethanol going to take off or in Six months time will morrisons drop it as it dosn't sell. then i would be into remaps again.

Don't want to be negative but what are the bad points there allways negatives to go with additional free power ???/

Morrisons will keep selling it if we keep buying it, there is government commitment to ensuring they do so and widen the availability too. More and more car manufacturers are developing cars for this fuel straight from the factory; Ford, Saab, Renault, Lotus...

Safer - in what way ? It is safer to handle/store for definite.

I was thinking more of the fact that I beleive methanol can cause certain issues with injectors etc is Bio-ethanol safer to use from that point of veiw.

I know Methanol dries up conponants due it its properties !!!

Yes - i believe it has to do with post yr 2000 cars having to withstand e85 in their componentry. I can't find the legislation info at the moment though.

No reports of any damage for the guys in the states that run this in pure form for several years.

My engine took it first dose of BIO last week, as Richard Bulmer is currently completing some lowdown / driveability mapping. I am hopefully we will be doing ***** out dyno runs by the end of this week.

He had a slight set back last week, when one of the braized fuel rails sprung a leak when it had the BIO put through. Beware if you are not using one piece parallel rails, as Richard explained that BIO can do all sorts of wonderful things..... in a bad way. lol

You can't simply use e85 itself, straight to the tank.
But you can use some 10-20% mixture with regular petrol.
In this way you'll not max out injectors but you'll get some advantages in octane ratings, as octane number of fuel raises with some relatively small alcohol additions even more than you could expect from e85 itself.

Or maybe in other words - ethanol/methanol has this interesting characteristic, that makes fuel with 10-15-20% of ethanol having higher ron rating than ethanol itself...

But too much ethanol would actually change the stoich of fuel too much, containing additional oxygene, so e85 would be be simply too lean for a standard maps on your car.
But it can make some adaptations to make use of those up to 20% ethanol (something around 10-15% should be good enough I think, to make you safe, being some sort of octane booster - no gains without remap, but definitely some peace of mind)

Is anyone other than Morrisons thinking of stocking E85 in England? Can't see anything on the horizon, doing a quick search. Seems unlikely if sales are slow at Morrisons, as we hear. It'll take more than just a few petrolheads in turbo cars to make it economical...

Looks like the tax incentives have made it more widespread for you guys in Ireland:

Dynamix, when using e85 what parts of the map need remapping, i take it needs ignition, fuel. what other adjustments would be needed. considering having a go myself if I can get good enough advise.

If you have a Hydra fitted, you would be best talking about specifics with Richard Bulmer. He not only knows what to do concerning E85, but he knows the Hydra inside and out.

TBH if E85 stops being available, I'll just remap back again to V-Power. It's not the end of the world, and it's a reasonable cost every time I need a map tweak at Zen.
