IntegraR,

the Police might not notice a "device" in just the same way as they might not notice you on a handheld phone - but if they *do* catch you, are you prepared to take the SIX points and a THOUSAND pound fine as a "fair cop"?

GregH,

please read the FULL text of the Statutory Instrument. It says:

quote:
(a) any device or apparatus designed, adapted or intended to be used for the
detection of the presence of a camera or any other apparatus designed or
adapted for the detection or measurement of speed of any motor vehicle; or

(b) any device or apparatus designed, adapted or intended to be used in order to
avoid the detection by or to frustrate the operation of a camera or any other
apparatus designed or adapted for the detection or measurement of speed of
any motor vehicle.

Part b) talks about devices "...to be used in order to *avoid* the detection by", not just to "detect" a Gatso. Forgive me for being naive, but in court i would think that you would have a hard time convincing the magistrate that a GEODESY (or even a bog-standard GPS with 15,000 waypoints defined for Gatsos) wasn't being used to avoid detection. Even a sheet of paper containing the locations of Gatsos could be construed as offending "apparatus".

Morpheus are correct in saying that the Govenment can't _ban_ GPS receivers (well they can actually ), in just the same way as they can't ban breadknives - but that doesn't make it legal to stab somebody!!

Don't get me wrong, i would _love_ to buy one of these (to complement my existing radar detector) - but don't fancy spending a few hundred pounds on something that i can't use in six months.

Please, everybody, write to Ian Edwards (see

I have just come from a meeting, as yet can't say much about the meeting but the topic was the fighting the banning of ANY device that will inform you of a Speedtrap, the QC, has looked into the proposed laws and yes anything that will inform you of a speedtrap will be covered.

The Geodesy is an ace bit of kit, it is suffering from false alarms due to the unit not having a trap now gone button, but overall its is worth the money. GPS Trap Alert is as yet not made, I was told today by Tim Rock the maker it will be on sale in April, its offers even more than the Geodesy unit so it may be worth the wait.

More info on both units and many more on my site

Thumbs down

Thanks for the info.

This really IS dumb. Anything that informs you of a speed trap. That means my brain is now banned because I know of at least 20 camera locations. If I drive to my mates house he's banned too because he knows of a few more where he lives.

My Eyes are banned because they are a device for telling me there's a trap ahead. The internet is banned too, because, like the above site it tells me where speedtraps are.

Gatso camera's are banned too. Because if I see one it's informing there's a speed trap ahead!!
