That is the problem Ben, there is no comparison. I have heard or experienced nothing bad about HSDs, but at the same time nothing good. In terms of BCs all of the feedback is positive and I am not aware of anything untoward in terms of the BCs.

If you are spending money on something as important as suspension then an unproven and unknown product is always going to come second best to something with a good track record (pardon the pun).

Clearly, when I'm back in the UK I'll happily accept a set of HSDs from you and se my car as a mule to prove them

I do understand what you're saying but we're talking exclusively in the Impreza market, in the Nissan & Toyota market we've got plenty of comparison and feedback.

To say it's unknown and unproven is a little extreme, to take it to the extreme example say if Bilstein came out with a new coilover kit for a car they'd not supplied for previously, you'd go off the experience from other markets to know it would be good.

It's fair to say the BCs are "generally" more comfortable because we tend to aim our market at fast road & trackday and BC are more the exclusive road user with very occasional track use. However we're offering a variety of spring rates with the defaults being on the softer side for the new age Impreza market since I think the majority are road users! Like for like, I'd be amazed if you came away saying the BC was more comfortable.

I want to be very careful to not enter a this VS that debate, but suffice to say neither BC or HSD are bad products, we even sold BC products a few years ago but chose the HSD route, as a manufacturer for our own Driftworks coilovers and also to retail the "oem" HSD coilovers.

Recently fitted a couple of Perrin wing Stiffis as well as small rear lip spoiler.

Today had all fluids etc checked; hand brake sorted and changed the gearbox oil with some Silkolene Silktran Syn5 75w-90. This sh&t is da bomb as they say in NYC......why I need to say that I dont know! But anyway has got rid of my recent annoying poroblem of gearbox getting sticky in & out of 1st. Its like blemin new now with slick easy & precise gear changes & the car seems to be subsequently going faster than ever before....I think Iv gained 20 bhp out of that gearbox oil change!!!!!

Turning into a rigt little DIY-er while I'm away - maybe you can get around to mine when my harness bar arrives and have it fitted before I get home

....or maybe not

Where's the pics of the new spoiler so i can decide whether or not to steal it for mine

After days of constant researching I have come up with my usual left field answer to my clutch upgrade. This is after speaking to lots of manufacturers; tuners & retailers!

Criteria for my new clutch is "not too expensive" & be able hold up to 400ft/lb torque with the odd trackday per year & a few launches thrown in too. Also it must not be a dog to drive everyday & in traffic.

The best clutch would be a twin plate etc but we'r talking £1300 plus for something like an Exedy Hyper Twin etc. Failing that the only Organic clutches that can handle such demands would be an ACT / AP Racing / Helix which would also come in at min £650 plus. IMO cheaper organic ones would not last long for what I want. So that doesnt leave much: twin plate/triple plate too espensive; stage 1 organics not strong enough / expensive stage 2/3 type organics by AP; ACT are also quite expensive.

That leaves paddle clutches which have a reputation for being dogs to drive, especially e.g a 4 puck paddle clutch. Most paddle clutches are quite hard to use & very on-off & difficult to get bitting point & drive in traffic. But they are usually far cheaper than twin/triple plate ones.

But there might be something in between, - "Competition Clutches USA". After speaking to the UK distributor & reading various US Jap car forums e.g. RSX; Nissan; Honda; Mustang etc they seem to have a very good reputation. They have been around for over 25 years in the past making clutches for differing US companies inc Clutchmasters & others. They now make their own performance clutches & flywheels:

Competition Clutch

As well as their organic clutches they do a 6 puck paddle clutch which has been designed to be far easier than normal paddle clutches & can be slipped & out of gear without problems. Almost like an organice type clutch but capable of handling shed loads of torque & bhp. And the best bit is the price... approx £330 inc Vat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I shall volunteer myself as the Scoobynet ginnie pig & if it all turns out to be as good as it sounds, you'l have me to thank. If it isnt then it would have been a costly experiment for me once fitted

Fit a standard one Ricky, you'll regret anything else.
That's unless you're going to stop driving it daily and have secret plans for more power....

Never say never!! No harm in future proofing

Also I am driving it less & less as 2nd car & from Fri to Mon it doesnt come out of the garage, the other days only approx 7 miles a day max.

Starting to get serious hey Ricky...

Since I've been away I've now bought...

Prodrive front seats with black rears and door cards (cheers Guv)
Harness bar (Cheers Wrighty)
Pair red sparco 4-pt harnesses
Set of red performance creations mud-flaps
Set of red car mats
Blue STi carpet (Cheers Budgie)
Japspeed FMIC
Sideskirt spats

combined with my walbro and the 3-port I have in the garage these will keep me busy when I get home. Just need to get a DV (Turbosmart megasonic) and a steering wheel and boss and then, with the service and remap, I'll be spent up until mid to late 2010. Then it's time for headers, TD05-16g (Andy Forrest one), pink injectors, FPR and some compspeed 6-pots with 355mm discs.

Have to say that Jap Retro is making a comeback, and it would be so cool to renovate one of these

Just had the CV Boot changed at Hughberry Vehicle Services this morning, they done it in under 45 mins & even changed my rear ARB setting, all in under an hour!! Very good value for money too They do clutches in under 4 hours & just changed a VW polo engine in half a day too!!! Now just need 4 wheel alignment & 4 tyres & Im done

ps after explaining what we did on our MLR500 car, they reckon the problem is definetley the crankshaft sensor & recommend swapping it from the other car, its just plug & play type sensor.

Just ordered 4 x 235/45/17 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta.
Looks like its OEM Sti 17"s for the forseeable future But I may get some 10 or 15mm hubcentric spacers for a bit of pose-ability

Alignment this week I hope & Scooby should be all well again after almost 4 months of muckin about with something or the other.

Kei racing ones are £80 to £100 for 4

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Subaru-Impreza...item20ade2182e

Though 20mm is a bit too much, I would prefer 10 to 15mm max.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas on last week, thanks Maggy

Also Geometry done at Houslow Tyres, (Ivey Lane, off Staines Rd, Hounslow, Middx) good place with 2x Hunter Machines & very busy, get there early or else it can be a wait. They had the Spec C settings on the Hunter but not needed as I had my own settings, thanks to James.

Wanted as close to 2.0 Neg camber on front / 1.75 Neg camber on rears & 0.00 Toe all round.

After 1.5 hours of adjusting & fine tuning we got 2.10 Neg Camber front / 1.60 Neg Camber Rear / 0.00 Toe all round/ & IIRC Castor was about 4.5 degrees. Also managed to adjust front camber bolts first in order to get the same figure on left & right side (approx 0.5 Neg camber), then we adjusted from top Mounts & added more Neg camber. All for £60 cash, not bad at that price

Have'nt really managed to test the car out after all suspension mods due to awful weather recently, so will update later

Bet it feels better with the Vred's now. They're very nice in the wet and I was massively glad of them yesterday while I still haven't got my geo done yet!

You might find that's a bit too agggressive on the camber settings for road use. - Keep an eye on your tyre wear
