in answer to your question - fine , although in this weather its hard to actually do any run that is meaningful as i'm constantly spinning (2wd). Best i've had 0-60mph is a 6.24secs, 1/4mile 14.15secs and a 13.42secs 0-100mph.

CC.
What car do you drive?
Some of the times don't add up, that's all.
If you're doing the 1/4 mile in 14.2secs your terminal speed would be approx 95mph, but then you say you can get to 100mph in 13.42secs?

Craig H, they measure the accelerative force of the car (or something ), nothing to do with the speedo etc. For the actual timing, the only variable that needs to be inputted is the 'tilt'...this compensates for the way your car squats or rolls under acceleration which is most obvious when u launch your car. Too much of this and the figures will be optimistic.

The factory setting (recommended for most sports cars) is 0.7, i set mine to 0.11 which is on the safe side (lots of bodyroll). I wont know for sure if its 100% until s.pod but i've read plenty of independent reviews praising the meter.

Stef, a rwd sierra cosworth. at the 1/4 mile it said i was doing 106mph. my 0-60ft was 2.45secs which is pretty poor i believe (and the 0-60mph)?

How do these things give an accurate speed though?

If it's based on the instruments then it's going to be out, no matter what.

100mph will be between 105 & 110......

OK, - so how is the speed measured?

It has to measure it from somewhere and cant get that from the forces - so is it manual in that you start and stop it?

The speed is calculated in the same way.

Acceleration over time gives you velocity = speed.

These things _can_ be very accurate, depending on the quality of the accelerometer - the ones I was using on a project were _very_ accurate, though they did cost over 600 quid each :-)

I'd be interested to know how accurate these ones are.

Also, does anyone who has one fancy posting a sample of the data output via the serial port....

CJEN,

Wahey!

You have convinced me - i am ordering one tomorrow!! I asked Race Technology about the 10% ScoobyNet discount, and it still applies. I mailed 'em yesterday (Sunday) and received a reply in less that half an hour - very impressive.

I was a little hesitant about the 32KByte memory (thinking that multi-mega-byte would be better), but bear in mind that this baby doesn't have to run Windows bloatware, so the AP should be good for 10 minutes at 10 samples per second. Ample for even Donno!

It is also good that you can easily swap between cars (or even bikes - push or otherwise!). I wonder what the Pepsi Big One at Blackpool would come up with?

Oh, okay. I thought you had a Scoob. In that case the figures are fine.

CJEN.
Those figures can't right. What was your speed at the end of the 1/4 mile? According to your figures, you were going quicker at 1/8 mile than you were at 1/4 mile?
Did you brake?

Stef.

Hey, my car is listed on that SEiGHT web site. Got me down as the 2nd Fastest Westfield recorded.

Not bad for my one and only run on a drag strip.

Must go back and get that fastest time, only got 0.3 seconds to find!

In answer to your question yes I did brake quite hard at around the 1/4 mile because there was a roundabout aproaching and it was wet . I could not see the meter because it was dark but thought I had already passed the 1/4 mile. That figure did not make sense to me either but could the reason above explain it? Maybe not? As this is the only strange figure I still assume it is quite accurate.

P.S All tests carried out on my own private dual carridge way with roundabouts

Sam did I say you could use my road?

We will have to try yours now the unichip is installed. Should be interesting. If you can get the brakes for what you say and they are the same kits I will definately buy them.

Question

Sounds great!

So what would 180 bhp at the wheels equate to at the flywheel (if that's the figure we/manufacturers normally use)? If it's about 280 bhp (which the Type R roughly has) that means it's lost about 36% of it's power from the flywheel to the wheels. Is that about right for scoobies? Just wondering so I can work out my engines power if I get one....

Guys

I bought one of the new Blitz ID Performance meters from the Autosport show the other week.

Had a go at fitting the othe day, but gave up. Its dead simple, live, earth and road speed sensor off the ecu. I couldnt decide whether i had got the correct cable off the ecu (instructions in Jap).

Hopefully getting fitted tomorrow.

Pete,

they never mentioned the "re-style", but i think that it will be worth the wait. Besides, the old plastic has taken a bit of a hit over Christmas, so it needs a little cooling off!

Cheers,
