Well I was at Cadwell for a mitsi trackday on friday and the majority where lapping in the 1.50min - 2.00min mark on track tyres. That includes tuned and stripped cars too. It wasnt until some put slicks on they got around low 1.40's

I did 1.54min in a near std 95 wrx (brembo's and 3" exhaust) on cheap tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

figure that?

You do realise all this 'My car is considerably faster than yours' is BS. Half of these quoted 1/4 mile times are to do with the drivers.

Can vouch for Bob`s times, have seen him run in the 11`s a couple of times. Plenty of vids of him on you tube too. No idea of engine spec etc, but he can launch rather well!!

Agree also, 1/4 mile time can have a lot more to do with driver than people give it credit for. When I ran last time my times varied from 13.6 (Missed 3rd, went 1st, 2nd 5th!!) down to 12.8. Damn sure the car didn`t change much all day, just me.

Dude, he only has 9bhp more than you and the cars are of a similar weight I believe! You're not going to pull a convincing lead on someone with that difference!!

You need more like a 50-100bhp difference for an advantage to be evident

I'm a 35 year old married father of one, respectable chap with a well paid job and company car. I have a classic (cost me 4grand) as a second car with a couple of grand for some mods.

I bought the latest classic I could so that I didn't get stung £400 for tax, but occasionally on this forum, it seems that an assumption is made about classic drivers. I hear the Council estate gag more and more about Classic drivers every day.
You can't take the classic stigma too personally mate. In the trade there is a saying: before a car becomes a classic, it becomes cheap! That doesn't mean that everyone who buys one is a chav, just that the price inevitably makes them more accessible to undesirables.

It'll happen to the new age scoobies as well (although probably not to the same extent) but the big difference is that the new age ones will never have the icon status that the classic has, simply because the classic was the original item.

you were holding them up ?

Very difficult to get decent lap times in particularly on a track day where you are not supposed to be timing. Meet someone coming into the mountain and that is two laps ruined.

There is a lot more to comparing cars, times, acceleration than just power.

311bhp versus 320bhp - there is virtually no difference in this and it takes a lot of power difference to be really noticeable. Factor in weight differences, gearing differences, whether he was trying or not and you just end up with the useless comparison that leads to accidents on public roads.

I am sure that if people bothered to race me on the public roads they would wonder how they could keep up.

If you really want to compete against people..... there are special events for this

As for which is better - they are both great cars. Enjoy yours, they (i am sure) enjoy theirs.

I'm no expert and I'm sure someone will correct me but surely a 1/4 mile involves getting off the line well, you can have all the power in the world but if it doesn't turn into traction you'll just sit there spinning, while someone with less power and no wheel spin will pull away quicker than you, hence quick times with less power??

You can only go on the clock for comparison, i timed them over a dozen laps and took an average. The fact is they where not as quick as i expected, as for why i cant tell you?

I've done timed events before, i rallied a 205 gti but the cost is astronomical and therfore it doesnt become fun after a while. One day i may try again.

lol, no ive done a lot of dragracing various states of tune and I believe I have got the most out of each and at 332/332 I got a 12.4 with 1.6/1.7 60ft on about 20 run so thats why 11.7 with 340 is not possible and as I have said before post your slip up to prove me wrong. How come you dont do the Scooby shootout with your super quick std engine.

it doesn't seem all that strange, I was able to keep up to a FQ300 with my stock 2.5l WRX at a track day (230bhp to 300bhp... he would get away slightly on the main straight, but i'd always catch up before the end of the lap)

311bhp/320bhp should be very even.

waiting for the summer already, running 307bhp/360ft.lbs atm, should be able to surprise a few evos

Scoobs are very good at getting great 60ft's...many sub 2 sec, bit harder with an Evo tbh.

Ha, EVO's are as common as muck now too

When I had my V they were a very rare sight on UK roads, even had people jumping into the road to take a picture.

Interesting read this. I am quite suprised you kept up to be honest. Ive had three imprezas before and am now on my first evo, which is an evo7 rs2. Hand on heart it feels much quicker. Just my two pennies worth. And evos are definatly not common.

I agree fella EVO's are far from common. After owing 3 Scoobys i decided it was time for a change so started looking at EVO's. I went out with 8k in my back pocket to buy one, i came back with my 4th Scooby, an STI RA. The car had been in the country for less than 3 months, grade 4 import, simtek ecu, new tyres, alarm/immobilizer, brandnew full vortex system, jap servie history and all the the sum of 4k!

The way i see it is i got a car equal to any Evo i could of bought for 8k but saved my self 4k in the making. Do i care that Scoobys are common?...not at all. If people want to spend 2-3k more on a car just because it has the kudos of it being a slightly rarer car when in reality thats all your paying for, then fair play to them.

Agree with that scenario. And the sti ra, not that ive driven one, is supposed to be awesome. Before the evo i went out with intention of buying a p1 or sti type r. So i knew what sort of money i wanted to spend. Dont get me wrong i love the impreza and would be tempted to go back. Although it would have to be a special one. I chose the evo as id never owned one, and yes the other reason was because imprezas seem to be more comman. Both awesome cars, which whenever i see one i allways give the thumbs up.
