the guy with the imprezza in scotland sent me a pic of the engine bay im new to these engines lol but is it me or does it look very dirty.



my trouble is im looking for a sti thats been window dressed as tony suggested one that has a interior trimmings like 3 pod defi type boost clocks on center of dash and also a engine thats been mapped.

guess it limits my options down

reason was because

defi boost clocks around 300 - 400 second hand.

engine mapped - was told its around 6-700 quid.

its quite a big investment for me, as had to take out a loan so just want to try and get the best one for what im paying.

thats why i was looking for one which already had these as it would save cost and money in long run.

 

does the car your interested in have defi gauges or defi style gauges,?
the reason I ask is because there is a very big difference between the two,

and also if its a big investment for you then why not narrow your chances of having a new car 10min before it dies on you and leaving you devastated,

guess i want a low mileage with the trimmings, in a ideal world but not going to get one. so its either 34,000 milage sti without the trimmings, or a 59.500 milage sti with the trimmings its sods law lol

so got to compramize someware, i really like like the car in scotland said i could have it for for 8k as all the trimmings plus he was gona chuck in road angel speed cam unit in price, but just its 400 miles home the guy said hes been down south in it and never had a problem and thinking about its mileage of 59.500 and lets say for instance in couple of years with say 65000 on clock how much would it be worth then if i say for example got bored and fancied a change.

its hard decision guess i got to compramize someware, this is why its good to get peoples opinions.

The first of those last 2 looks good. Low milage but some upgrades!

The gauges on the one in scotland don't look defi they look more like swoosh but it's hard to see. Watch out for cheapo gauges as you'll only want to change them later (I should know) but swoosh (if that's what they are) are meant to be ok.

still undecided on all 3, they all near same in price just want to buy one and be done with it so guess its out the 3, now chosing which one to go for is another story its not as easy as it looks as all 3 of these cars have good points which makes choosing even harder

03 sti price: 7.8k remapped 320bhp lots of extras 58.5k on clock.
03 sti price: 8k 39k on clock, extras stainless exhaust, sti mudflaps.
03 sti price: 8k standard 34k on clock

darn cars wish is was not so hard to choose them lol

 

Middle one def gets my vote! the 20K+ miles difference is worth more than the £1000 it'll cost you to get that sort of power and if you shop around beat it!

 

Still worth taking someone with you who will know what to look for!

 

Well to add my thoughts.......................................... ............

The modded one in Scotland does have some very interesting and attractive mods. Would I buy it?...............Yes but, I would certainly advise you to take someone with you who knows Imprezas, and if it looks and goes good then it is will be a fantastic car and would save you around £1.5k - £2k over a standard car.

The standard one with 39k on the clock is again a very nice car and with the exhaust already fiited is a good start.

I think you should ask every conceivable question about the modded car in Scotland and if you are satisfied with the answers, make arrangements for a mate [in a diesel] to ferry you up there to give it a good looking over and a decent test drive. If all paperwork etc adds up then go for it.
If it seems iffy then what have you lost? A day of your time, £50 for the diesel but with your cash in your pocket and more knowledgeable about Imprezas. Then look at your 2nd choice.

 

The other one (non scottish) already has a full stainless exhaust system, and flaps to get it upto the other one he'd be looking at fuel pump + remap + gaugues so a grands worth I should guess and certainly not worth as much as the 20k miles wear and tear let alone resale value!

 

Why is everyone putting uprated fuel pumps on blob eyes? it was only the bugs that needed those (the 265ps ones, hence you had the uprated one in the PPP for the MY02 cars).
Now wheels, for instance look at ebay item 110300495957 or 400002866243, ok the first one needs a touch up in places but not too bad for the money
Exhausts... try item 140248542469 which suits most people.
Now guages are not necessary, and to be honest with a lightly modded car you dont need them at all, add the cost of a remap (650 quid though some places can do it cheaper) and for a little over 9.5k you have that decent car with low miles (saves that extra 30k miles of wear and long drive), plus its more sorted to what you want (though the parts I have pointed out are only an example)

that's the beauty of the market at the moment, loads of choice

personally i've never had an issue buying a modded car, just as long as it's got the mods that you want and done properly.

if the mapped one ticks all the boxes then happy days, the only thing i would say is look into the mods a bit more.

the decat exhaust for example, do you have an MOT friendly garage to take it to? if not you could have a poxy time getting a cat, fitting it and nursing it to the garage and back because it's not idealy mapped to use one.

is the exhaust to your tastes noise wise? is it a super loud one that you might have to change if the other half doesn't approve?

do you really need the gauges? you certainly don't need the induction kit at that level of tune.

BUT, all of this depends on what YOU want. if this is just what you've been looking for you might have struck gold

like both cars as as stated previously its either a standard low milage sti over a high modded 58.5k sti.

quick question through going by what bar,s the boost he mentioned above,
0.7 bar low, 1.4 bar midrange, 1.3 bar at high, would i notice alot more torque & power from the 330bhp sti over the standard 280bhp sti?

 

I would still give the higher mileage one a miss, considering you can pick this up for 10k ono

Keep looking, the market is good for buyers, not so good for sellers and thats an 05 car, should have the A-DCCD and longer wheelbase for better handling though you may have to save a little for those mods your after.

PS, yes you would notice the difference between a car that has 50bhp difference and has been remapped, there will be more midrange pull, but still go for the best car you can afford, then do what you want with it

just update i sent the sellers of the 58.5k one asking any service history and recepts for mods and any recept for map, has it had clutch changed etc that was carryed out.

he replyed:

the car has now covered 60200 as it was advertized 2 months ago. :/
there is a service history not all from a subaru garage but have recepts for work, all work and servicing has been done by my brother inlaw every 6000 miles. he is the top mechanic at evans halsaw :/

i was not willing to pay £400 for service when i can buy genuine parts and have my brother in law do it. sorry no receits

front discs and pads changed about 3000 miles ago afraid no receits for these,

have done 30,000 miles in her in about 2 1/2 years and i have not changed the clutch because there is no problem with it.

just before i bought it the first owner put on a ppp recepts to prove but only thing left of that is the walbro 255l fuel pump.

the turbo has not been changed as it does not blow any un welcome smoke

the injectors have not been changed.

yes i have receit for re-map £700

i wouldn't go for it personally mate, doubt there's anything wrong with it, just there's better examples around than that.

I was looking for a new car but happened on a Vauxhall foreourt (spit)..there was a used very red (I like red) and very shiny vauxhall Astra GTE MK I, it even said GTE 1.8 Injection on the boot lid

It looked so nice I took it for a test drive....drove like a front drive pig So I bought it

I even bought the MK2 version with the shocking digital dash....because I wanted to drive it

As long as the car is sound you won't be dissapointed with either ..

there's a lot of people that sell off mods when selling up, that might explain the lack of good choice? odd, i thought you'd be spoilt for choice

only asking about the previous car to think what your jump in performance would be, i don't know how quick a zetec turbo is but i'd guess a standard sti would be an improvement in pace.

in your boots i'd be buying a good, standard (ish) one and work your way up the modding/power ladder. once the modding bug bites it'll give you a bit of room for improvement, and with a bit of research you'll be able to get it exactly how you want it and spread the cost

or just buy the evo

 

i did not go for any of them in the end as top 38k car sold

and bottom car seemed to dodgy,, usual story about my brothers a merchanic so no bills for work to car, not only that he decided to tell me the car had a extra 500 miles on the car making it 60k saying he told me 59.5k because car was advertized couple months back, i was iffy about milage in beggining but mods swayed me but soon as i knew it had another 500 miles on top i put me right off , and hardly no bills for work, strange he left it to tell me it had a extra 500 on clock till last, also engine bay looked dusty and dirty and not looked after at all, way i see it if cars been looked after by a person on outside then engine bay should also be clean not dusty or dirty.

also i think if your going to be spending 7-8k for a car its important to have either full service history, or if its modded a book full of recepts for work done to car, not someone saying my brothers a merchanic so no bills


so still on lookout
