I think we're really starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel here...
What is it about HID's that sets people pants ablaze - seriously!?

I get more dazzled on the road by Beemers that have them fitted as OEM equipment than aftermarket kits. One would assume that these cars have to follow all the rules and regulations set out, but yet they are still very bright.

So....how exactly do you differentiate between the aftermarket and OEM kit exactly - they are both much brighter than conventional bulbs when they're coming towards you on the road. So should we ban them altogether?

I'd personally rather see all speed cameras systematically burnt to the ground as they cause me far more annoyance as a motorist than HI-flippin-D's.

If you are this never gave total control to MOT, not even close. A car can pass a MOT and still be illegal to use on the road in many different ways. Just think if what you were saying is true you could use two of these as headlights on the road.

Just to note the MOT test a lot more than just beam and aim when it comes to lights.

Lol,

Sometimes....

Pass your BAR, become a barrister, then you can try and prosecute someone with your "arguments" and comprehension on UK Law.

In the meantime posting on forums is not going to change anyone's view on HID's.

Good Luck though!

Seriously do you re-read the thread before posting?....

All this babble about this and that and you still cannot counter R4LLY's points, just waffle around them.

Maybe you should try and become a Politician!

and by the way and vehicle imported into the country and being manufactured prior to 1997 does not undergo a SVA, or ESVA, but just a simple MOT to allow it to become registered on UK roads.

Just give it a rest, I have HID's happy with them, bought them from eBay UK Shop - JAM Performance UK: Xenon Hid Conversion Kits, Induction Cooling, Exhausts and never had any issues, also have a friend who is a Traffic Cop and he bought one from there for his car as well!

Ok I will keep it very simply with no waffling. The fact is that retrofit gas discharge bulbs contravene both The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 and the Economic Commission for Europe Regulations 48 and 98. I don't think any one is debating this fact.

This is a offence under the Road Traffic Act under Construction And Use. It is also a offence under the Road Safety Act under Using Vehicle In Dangerous Condition and if I recall properly a few other laws besides but I would have to go check.

So as far as I can tell retrofit gas discharge bulbs are in fact illegal. I will continue to believe this unless some one has very convincing legislation or judicial precedent they can show that says otherwise.

I've had HID's fitted to my car for ages now. I've been stopped on numerous occasions by the boys in blue inlcuding by the most arrogant nastiest policeman I've ever encountered who was hellbent on trying to find something wrong with the car. After almost an hour at the side of the road he gave up. This was despite having "illegal" HID's.

They really aren't a problem!!!!!

Also just an observation. It looks like more than a few of you have been watching too much Ali McBeal etc. There is no BAR exam in English law you have to pass the LPC which is at minimum a 1 year course this is ontop of any Law degree which is a prerequisite fo the LPC exam. Just thought I'd clear that up
