Clive (SF) are you doing the trackday (using your car) on Saturday at Snetters?
Will hopefully catch up with you then, should be there with John Stevenson, and then the Zen crew later in the day.

Where do I start??
Thought I'd write a bit of an independent perspective having had the privelidge of being taken round Snetterton in Clive's car at the weekend.
I'd recommended some tyres to Clive ( Hankook Ventus Sport EVO ) so these were fairly new when he'd reached the track. The track was also damp in the morning. After a few initial laps Clive came into the pits and said the car was quite lively and fairly skittish on the back end. So we let some pressure out of the tyres and adjusted the EXE-TC supsension. On arrival at the track Clive had it set at 30FR and 30R. I suggested we dropped the rears to 20 and leave the fronts at 30.
After a few more laps Clive was back into the pits and reported that the car was lots better. It was my turn to be taken round the track. The car was excellent. Felt very well balanced but when on the pit straight we were bettered by a GT3 I knew something wasn't quite right. Too late to see what as my passenger session came to an end.
Before the next session we'd stiffened the suspension further still 35F and 25R. I was now determined to watch what was going on with the car rather than the track.
Clive had his lines and braking points pretty much sorted but when I went out with him this time I noticed that Clive was consistently short shifting and changing gear at 6krpm.
I advised him to get the best of the car he should be pushing the car a little harder as the peak power of the car would be higher up the rev range. This was a turning point in the day and Clive really did start to get the best from the car. My next observation was that he was in the wrong gear on a couple of corners and due to the fact he had a 2.0L with a large turbo this caused a little lag. As soon as he addressed the when to change gear and what gear to be in issue. It became very apparent that the car was very very capable. With the extra speed we were now carrying both through the corners and up the straights new issues came to light. When coming around Riches corner and out of Sears and onto Revett straight we started to get fuel surge despite an intank anti surge device. This was later combatted by simply carrying extra fuel. The next problem was sighty more serious in that now due to the extra revs and therefore power oil temps were hitting 125 degrees after about 6 laps. This is only going to be cured by a full on Oil cooler.
Olly Clark rang Clive to make sure that some oil that had been ordered had arrived at the track as arranged. During the call Olly suggested a further tweek on the EXE-EX suspension. So on his advice we went to 37F 27R this was about perfect. I went out for the last couple of laps of the day and Clive really did have the measure of the car. Although there were a couple of more powerful cars there that day there were very few things keeping with Clive's car on these final laps. It's a pity we had to stop again because of rising oil temps.
In short, the car is awesome. With fuel and oil temp issues sorted and some triple 8's the car will be just about perfect. But then I think that will create oil surge issues.
On a personal note I would just like to say thanks to Clive for an awesome day.
Hopefully the first of many when I get mine up and running. AWESOME!!!

Your welcome Daz and your valued input was appreciated.
I have always known the car was something a bit special and I know I rant on about how good the car is, but if you were in it (when it's having some) you soon realise what it's all about.
Couple of things Daz never mentioned
Firstly my biggest fear was going from 5th to 2nd. I have nearly done it twice whilst driving on the road but left the clutch down.
Racing is totally different and a crash helmet seriously reduces what your ears normally tell you and it happened !!
At between 130 - 135mph whilst braking hard and down shifting it felt as though it went into 4th but was in 2nd. I let the clutch up and the wheels instantly locked whilst listening to a mind wrenching rpm.
I knocked it into neutral just about made the tight turn, selected 3rd and everything appeared & sounded ok...thank gawd.
Was talking with Matt, Olly & Dave (mapper) and a mishap with the Team Ice car resulted a recorded 13,400 rpm with no damage. My ears were telling me I could not have been far off that.
Secondly, we had a lap time, and when I informed RCM they were really pleased.
We are not sure of Duncan's winning lap time in last year's Time Attack but 1.15 was mentioned.
I ended up within 5 seconds of that, but was really pleased when considering I was not on 888's, not stripped, and I had a fat bastad in the passenger seat
......bless him.
It was the first time I had driven it REALLY hard and it was truly awesome.
A big well done to Olly, Matt, Mark and the team for winning Time Attack 2009
and it must be said a superb fast machine from the Zen camp.

Down the back straight I was using the mph to find optimum braking point. The highest speed I reached was 144-145, about 0.5 of a second past marker 3.
That was my limit Steve as the brakes had nothing left & I needed to brake the engine using the clutch. It was 50 / 50 using the run off or making the left hander and i JUST hung on to it.
Any quicker I would have had to use the run off.
Is that about the same as you guys ??
I noticed the car there yesterday and could tell from the tyres it'd seen some track action
Love the stickers in the back window. Would love to have seen it on track on the Saturday. It looks quick even parked up in a field!

Clive,
I highest I hit was (speedo indicated) just over 150mph, last Thursday down tha back straight. My speedo is 5% over at this speed. This was taking a fairly lazy exit from the previous right hander, breaking fairly early and subsequently lifting sooner, short shifting and low boost. Having the shorter ratio's on the JDM 6sp 5th and 6th certainly help.

Was looking a bit sorry for it's self on Sunday

Over the moon with the performance.

I'm not quick enough yet then Steve
I may have been able to gain a few more mph from a smoother exit out the the right hander leading onto the straight but it would not be much more.
So was dazdavies.
(would just like to add here that I am only going on images that I have seen posted of him on this site)Noticed you in the crowd at the prize giving. Damn that was cold.

Sounds a fun day - wish I could have made it. Never driven Snetterton even though its only 20 mins from my in laws. Good hotel, for future reference, is Dunston Hall - about another 15 mins drive ( De Vere : Dunston Hall ) beyond snetters (past lotus factory at Hethel too).
Is the rad the original? I'm only asking as apparently lots of the original P1 rads have begun to give up the ghost around now - including mine on Saturday - fortunately 100yds from home, after a 250 mile run the day before.
I'd noticed mine was running hotter lately - like when it was being remapped after the Motec wide band was sorted recently by Bob Rawle- and had been meaning to look into it, before it suddenly went. I suspect your rad was renewed along with everything else under your bonnet, but just in case.
Now need to get a new rad sorted and work out what sort of coolant/how much it needs...haven't been able to find my P1 manual for years though so if anyone knows...? cheers

After reading daz's post above, if you do move to r888 they will help you too. You'll be able to carry more speed through the corners from the increased grip so you should be able to carry more speed in and through the bend which will allow you in turn to reach higher speed on the straights. Well in theory anyway

Hi John.
Thanks for the hotel info.
Lovely track, we shall have to meet up there one day and have the crack.
Water temps were fine on a standard rad. I had a new one fitted when the loom ignited in Aug 08.
You were lucky with yours mate !!
There are open pit track day at Snetters on Sat 21st Nov if u are interested?
Not sure on rad volumes?
LOL @ looking sorry for myself
Was a fab weekend. Only downpoints were 2 am Saturday night in the hotel with a load of tossers with no respect of others shouting and screaming and waking the whole hotel up. Also a certain short grey haired MD of a tuning company formerly technical director of another tuning company thinking that aknowledging the likes of me beneath him. Despite the fact we have been on first name terms in the past, arrogant ****.
Aside of the on track action the off track banter with Clive's clan was so much fun, my ribs hurt today. The melon story, pure classic

Clive,
It's "Shaun" not "Steve"..... my username should give you a clue!
Daz,
