I would rather have a Ferrari made to look like an MR2, but I am a bit strange, always want to go rather than show.

Fair play to replica owners but its just asking for a character analysis or assasination.

Depends. If its better than what was in originally, its the way to go. Thats the beauty of replica, no need to procrastinate over brand purity, as it has no brand (well, apart from the kit car manufacturer).

Engine-wise the LS1 is far better than a Rover V8 which in turn is way better than a Pinto. And moden Ford DOHC/SOHC V8s need fettling to perfom properly. They maybe Fords, but without some form of forced induction, they are poor performers. Of course one could source and build an old Ford iron block. But then one may as well build it to spec, and once thats been costed its never going to better the orginal car anyway, so better to go one better, and go for new.

Perfection would be a LS3, which is far superior than any old iron block. Better still a LS7 or LS9, which won't need any modifications as they already would be too powerful. Too powerful? I could laugh at that thought, but its possible in the damp UK climate, LOL.

Likewise with Cortina axles, Jaguar XJ rear subframes and Sierra front uprights. Whilst adequate for the job of going from A to B, its running along the lines of using a Pinto in a Cobra or Rover in a GT40 (and I have seen a few too many Pinto engined Cobra replicas and Rover engined GT40s for my liking).
